Governor Message OctoberFellow Rotarians,

In response to the severe inundation in the Chaopraya and Tajeen Rivers Basin over the past two months, we have set up a disaster relief fund to distribute daily necessities bags to flood victims. The campaign is led by IPDG Suchada Ithijarukul.

Up to 27 September we have raised about 1,000,000 baht and donated 2,200 necessities bags. Siam Makro lent their hands to give 550 extra bags. I invite Rotarians in our district to contribute to this disaster relief campaign and for the post-flood recovery mission.

As for our efforts to aid the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster victims, we have raised close to 200,000 baht. PP Vichai Manopimok, the district program chair, will hand over this fund to D-2770 in November 2011 to implement a Matching Grant project.

Our annual PolioPlus campaign will kick off in November 2011 with three grand events: the End Polio Charity Concert on 13 November at M Theatre, New Petchburi Road; Tuk-Tuk Around the Town Parade on 27 November; Run-Walk to End Polio on 25 December on the lawn of the Public Health Ministry.

Our annual District Conference (DC) will be held on 28-29 January 2012. The Bangkok RI Convention in May 2012 necessitates our earlier than normal DC schedule.

I urge all clubs in D-3350 to submit to me their suggestion for nomination for 2014-15 governor by 30 November 2011 at the latest.

Clubs may submit to me Rotarian eligible for the Club Builder Award by 15 October 2011 so that names of nominees can be forwarded to RI by the deadline on 1 November 2011.

October is Vocational Service Month. I cordially invite Rotarians to read the speech by PRIP Bhichai Rattakul on “Our Core Values and Vocational Service” delivered at the January 2011 International Assembly in San Diego. You may look for this speech on the web site of

The speech earned a thunderous standing ovation. I was so proud when my batchmates expressed their appreciation and congratulations at the end of the delivery. PRIP Bhichai’s keynote speech received a top-notch rating of 99%. You will gain deeper understanding of Core Values and Vocational Service after having read the article. We are tremendously proud of such a prestigious Rotary pillar in our district.

In the pages of this month’s magazine, you will be introduced to the marvelous city of Bangkok, Thailand, which will play host to our 2012 Rotary International Convention. Please consider this my personal invitation to join me, my family, and our fellow Rotarians at what promises to be an incredible event in one of the world’s most fascinating locations.

Thailand is a spectacular destination, truly the Land of a Thousand Smiles. I would particularly urge Rotarians who have never visited Thailand before to consider this as your chance. You’ll be surrounded by gracious Rotarian hosts and friends, old and new, from around the world. Bangkok is a fantastic gateway for those wishing to explore Southeast Asia, and a wonderful experience on its own. For those who hail from countries closer by, take the opportunity to visit a major cultural capital, with all it has to offer – including shopping, dining, and sightseeing. Indeed, Bangkok will give you a wonderful value for your time and money.

But the very best reason to visit Bangkok, of course, will be the 2012 RI Convention itself, 6-9 May – the highlight of the Rotary calendar.

All through the year, we reach out to Rotary communities around the globe. At the convention, we have the chance to see all those communities represented in one place – to hear all the languages, see all the people, and learn about all the projects of the past year. Nothing brings home the internationality of Rotary like a Rotary convention – and nothing else has the same power to inspire.

I firmly believe that every Rotary event should be a family event, and this is why Binota and I plan to bring our children

and our grandchildren. Why not do the same, and make the Rotary convention part of your family’s vacation next year? With so many wonderful events and activities to choose from, there is something for everyone, and plenty of opportunity to draw our families closer to our Rotary service.

Every year, I go to the convention excited to see old friends and make new ones, to celebrate our successesand learn from our experiences. And every year, I leave

with a sense of pride in Rotary, eager to begin another year of service. Bangkok promises to be the best convention yet. I urge you to register now at www.rotary.org/convention, and to begin planning your trip to our 103rd international convention!

October is a busy month for The Rotary Foundation. While our Trustees meeting is usually held in October, this year, because the 2012 RI Convention is so early in May, it was moved to September. This meant that “Taiwan Day” was also held earlier.

On Taiwan Day, we inducted Rotarians from Taiwan into the Arch C. Klumph Society in honor of their contributions of at least US$250,000 to our Foundation. We inducted five generous couples on Taiwan Day in 2009, seven in 2010, and as I write we’ve had eight in 2011. When you consider the population of Taiwan and the number of Rotarians there, this giving is humbling. We now have over 300 Arch C. Klumph Society members, with the highest number in the United States, and now the second highest in Taiwan. A challenge to the rest of us!

October is a month with many Rotary institutes, where current, future, and past Rotary leaders come together to discuss what is happening within Rotary. We have a trustee and Foundation staff at each institute.

Each October, we also select the next group of our Rotary Peace Fellows – up to 60 for the two-year master’s, and up to 50 for the three-month certificate. The selection process is fascinating and resembles the draft system used by U.S. football teams to select their new players. All the applicants are scored and ranked by experienced Rotarians and the universities. Representatives from the universities come to the meeting with their “wish list” but take turns in choosing their actual scholars. Their choices may be influenced by a desire to have a wide geographical or subject spread, and sometimes they will “trade” choices. The result is that the best candidates become our fellows, and our program remains among the best.

The Importance of Administration committee¤ÇÒÁÊÓ¤Ñޢͧ¡ÒúÃÔËÒÃÊâÁÊÃClub Administration : It is the heart of rotary club. How well the clubs manage themselves has a direct effect to how weak or strong the clubs are. Below listed the advantages and disadvantages of club management as can be seen from the weekly meetings:

Successful/Strong Clubs- A well organized meeting plan results in a proud club members who are willing to participated and invite friends and acquaintances to attend the meeting which might develop into future membership.- Most of the club members are willing to attend the meeting; the financial problem is less likely and there will be more money left to be put to good use.- Building friendship among club members.- Club members are eager to participate in different club activities.- Club president and the managing team will be more motivated to perform their tasks which will also result in even stronger club.- The strong clubs can become role models for other (weaker) clubs.- Make it possible for member of other rotary clubs (domestic/ international) to attend the meeting as programmed by Rotary International District 3350.

Unsuccessful/Weak Clubs- Badly organized meeting resulted in uninterested members who do not attend meetings.- Few members joined the meetings which causes financial difficulties.- Lack of informativeness in meeting contents could leads to fewer membership- Invitation of guest speaker can be difficult if there are no supports from members.- Members are less likely to take part in club activities.- It will be hard to increase club members with the lack of faith in the club- Frequent collection of money both rotary-related and non-rotary related spending will result in lesser members.- Meeting cancellation or postponement without informing District is considered as a great damage to the club’s image as there could be uninformed guests from other clubs who wish to attend the meeting.

I would like to express my encouragement and support for the president of the year 107 as well as Club Administration Chair and committee. You have sacrificed physically and financially. Mentality wise, stay strong- as PDG. Chow Nararidh has once mentioned that “one has showed just 10% of his/her capability just like the ice that is floated upon water”; therefore, I would like to encourage all of you to utilize your ability to the fullest.

Yours in Rotary

What is World Fund Every year the Rotary Foundation International allocates donation from Rotarians around the world to the Annual Program Fund (APF), after it has been managed to gain some earning for three years. Half of the donation is allocated to the World Fund (WF), the other half is allocated to Rotary Districts, which is called District Designated Fund (DDF). Districts and Rotarians who donated will participate in how the DDF shall be allocated to community services. World Fund will add up another 100% to DDF.

World Fund is a part of the Rotarian Foundation International Committee (Trustee), who has the right in management to support Rotary International for community services in accordance with the concept of Rotary for example, education and humanity support programs that is in line with the Six areas of Focus. Even though any Rotary club has never donated to get his shared DDF, the Rotary Foundation still contribute donation from the world fund for support those projects.

World Fund is depleted as long as no additional donations. As we can see many good projects has been paused or postponed during these few years such as scholarship for college teachers, scholarship for rotary volunteer, Ambassadorial scholarship, and Group Study Exchange Program. If the world fund is fully used up in the future, not only the above mentioned projects will be terminated, the Matching Grant Projects will also not have adequate contributions from the world fund. Until then we will have to conduct community services by collecting donations which will be a big burden and tedious activity.

Ways to contribute to get World Fund (WF) and District Designated Fund (DDF)

1. Contribute to the Annual Program Fund: this can be donated by proportionate donation EREY $100 or at least $1,000 "Paul Harris Fellow" or donation for “Major Gift of $10,000”

2. Contribute to the Permanent Fund or Benefactor : the principle of donation will be in permanent savings. The returns/ interests of this donation will be managed into World Fund or will be circulated further for three years to get DDF and World Fund.

My Dear Rotarians, have you donated to the World Fund?

If you are a food fanatic wanting to taste everything the world has to offer or give visiting Rotarians from overseas the rare opportunity to celebrate the best international cuisines, the Host Hospitality Night on Monday 7 May 2012 is a culinary event not to be missed.

This ticketed event dubbed “Kitchen of the World” at only USD 10 is guaranteed to tease your taste buds with a long list of tempting international cuisines passionately prepared by world-class chefs from leading hotels in Bangkok.

Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and Rotary International will be spending over USD 1 million to bring the best of global cuisines to the dining tables at the Host Hospitality Night, according to Host Organizing Committee Vice Chair Dr Saowalak Rattanavich.

Highlighting creativity in culinary arts, live cookery demonstrations on site let you watch and learn while chefs take you on a cooking journey of multinational cuisines you have fancied but never tasted.

Other highlights include Thai cuisines, cultural shows, fruit & vegetable gardens, fruit carvings, food on parade, kitchen percussion band, and two performance stages

Only 10,000 Rotarians and family members will have access to this ticketed event on a first book, first served basis. For every 10 tickets bought in one lot, one complimentary ticket is given. What a great opportunity to invite members from your sister clubs to savor this unseen event or to meet with your batch-mates!

Host Hospitality Night is one of the highlight events of every RI Convention. Rotarians from around the world immerse in a night of fellowship with Host Rotarians to enjoy a "one-of-a-kind" experience prepared by Host Organizing Committee.

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

There are two to three important matters from the Rotary Centre that I need to remind you. Some Rotary Clubs still have not settled July Rotary International due. Please kindly make your payment now otherwise Rotary International will not be able to update your January SAR.

Secondly those who had filled in and already registered and made payment to the RI Convention, please make sure that RI had confirmed your payment, via email only. If you need any help, Rotary Centre can assist you. It is important that you need to have the confirmed number to receive your badge.

Lastly Rotary Centre had translated some more documents such as An Introductionto New Generation Service and Be a Vibrant Club: Your Club Leadership Plan which you can download from web. Another creation is we can be contacted on Face Book.
