OPENING IN THE NAME OF THE TRINITY P. We begin our service in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C. Amen P. Let us now say together our memory verse. All. He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

CONFESSION OF SINS AND ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS P. Let us come before God as sinful people in need of His

love and mercy: C. Lord, we come before You in prayer today, asking

for forgiveness. We have not loved as we ought to love, we have not given as we ought to give, and we have fallen short of the mark of truly being Your obedient sons and daughters. We see our sin and remember our shortcomings in love and life.

P. God our heavenly Creator, hears the prayers of all people and answers those prayers. Our prayer for

forgiveness is answered in Jesus Christ, God’s Son, who died for our sin that we might have new life. To those who believe God’s word of truth comes the power to be the people of God. In this name of God, and by His authority, as a called and ordained servant of God, I forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C. Amen STATEMENT OF WHAT WE BELIEVE “In God We Believe” (Tune: LSB 802) 1. In God we believe: the Creator whose pow’r In mercy has brought us for worship this hour. He graciously grants us our years and our days And blesses with kindness our work and our ways.

2. In Jesus the Savior our hope is secured. True God and true man once the cross He endured. To grant our lives wholeness, forgiveness of sin. With hearts freed from guilt we know true peace within.

(continued…)

3. God’s Spirit at work in our lives we confess; With power and truth the church now He does bless. As saints, God’s forgiven, one day we shall then Be living in glory forever. Amen

TITHES AND OFFERING

OFFERING SONG “Have Thine Own Way, Lord” 1. Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Thou art the Potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after Thy will, While I am waiting, yielded and still.

2. Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Search me and try me, Master, today! Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now, As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

SCRIPTURE READINGS

FIRST READING Jeremiah 28:5-9 5Then the prophet Jeremiah spoke to Hananiah the prophet

in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord, 6and the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May the Lord do so; may the Lord make the words that you have prophesied come true, and bring back to this place from Babylon the vessels of the house of the Lord, and all the exiles. 7Yet hear now this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people.

8The prophets who preceded you and me from ancient times prophesied war, famine, and pestilence against many coun-tries and great kingdoms. 9As for the prophet who prophesies peace, when the word of that prophet comes to pass, then it will be known that the Lord has truly sent the prophet.”

P. This is the Word of the Lord. C. Thanks be to God.

SECOND READING Romans 7:1-13 1Or do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to

those who know the law—that the law is binding on a per-son only as long as he lives? 2Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her hus-band dies she is released from the law of marriage. 3Ac-cordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her hus-band dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.

4Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to an-other, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. 5For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. 6But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.

7What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”

8But sin, seizing an opportunity through the command-ment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. Apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. 11For sin, seizing an oppor-tunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12So the law is holy, and the com-mandment is holy and righteous and good.

13Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure. P. This is the Word of the Lord. C. Thanks be to God.
