Baptisms Please welcome into our Christian community Georgina Decano who will celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism this weekend. Anniversary Blessings Congratulations to Steve & Eira Arisman who will celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary on June 27. Sunday Reflection Ashamed, who me? If asked, most of us would state emphatically that we are proud of our Catholic faith. We see ourselves as willing witnesses, openly declaring Christ’s gospel in our words, our works, our lives. But are we really that open with our faith? When the opportunity arises in conversation to speak God’s view on morals or modern culture do we speak for Him or avoid the possible conflict? When we see someone unjustly treated do we step up and act in their defense or quietly pray for God to “do something”? Jesus tells us “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.” It’s important that we speak for Him and of Him whenever possible. It’s up to us. Will we acknowledge Him today, or will we be ashamed?

Thank You to all who participated in our Corpus Christi Procession proclaiming our faith to Lethbridge. The planning committee thanks all those who participated in any way to make this celebration a special occasion. It was great to see so many fathers making this a part of their Father's Day. A special thank you to Cornerstone and Martin Bros. for accompanying us and providing rides and the 4th Degree who come from many councils to add solemnity and colour to the procession. Those of you who were able to participate and those who were with us in spirit are a true treasure and blessing for the parish. God Bless all. Corpus Christi in 2018 is June 3rd.

Fr. Kevin’s Cluttered Desk Every now and then Jesus’ words seem to come across very harshly and this can be very upsetting. We can try to assume that he is talking about someone else but in truth he is always talking about each of us. Part of being Catholic is accepting the fact that we are sinners, but we are sinners in need of God’s mercy and compassion which he has already freely given to us. The key here is our response. Peter denied Jesus three times and instead of berating him Jesus simply asked Peter, “Do you love me?” In response to our sinfulness we too must be able to hear those words and, like Peter, respond with love to them. Still, to truly be able to do this we must also really know and love Jesus in our hearts.

There is a story told of an old monk who everyday went into the church to pray and as he prayed he would begin to weep to the point his prayers would end but his sobbing could be heard by anyone in the chapel. Over the years this would continue every day and, after an hour or so, the old monk would come out and continue about his daily routine. One day a new novice joined the community and as he was walking about he heard coming from the chapel the sound of weeping. Entering the chapel he found the old monk, prayer book on his lap and his hands over his eyes weeping. The young novice, being new to the community, did not know what to do, so he went over placed his arm across the old monks shoulders and asked, “Why do you weep?” The old monk looked up at him, then pointed to the cross and said, “My sins did that to my Lord.” The young novice looked at him strangely and asked, “When you look at the image of the Risen Lord do you dance for joy and sing praises to God?” “No” said the old monk, “I only focus on the cross.” The young novice held him close and whispered in the old monks ear, “But he is not on the cross anymore, He is Risen.” The young novice got up walked out and was never seen by the community again. The old monk continued to go to chapel everyday but he no longer wept. Instead would sit smiling at the crucified Christ. As time went by the old monk approached death and as he lay upon his death bed a young man appeared at the monastery, and asked to see the old monk. Sitting by the bed of the old monk he took the old monks hand in his and said, “Time to come home, He is Risen, time to dance and time to sing,” and the old monk died. As the other monks gathered at the bedside the young man walked out. Some swear there were sandals on his feet and wounds on his hands. Only the heart truly knows how much we love Jesus. God has written his name on our hearts and He knows our hearts. Yes Lord, I am a sinner but you know I love you.

Peace Fr. Kevin

You may not know, but I don’t like birthday parties. So when asked and encouraged to have one I said, “Only if it is done as a fundraiser for the new church.” Thus on June 2nd a birthday party was held to celebrate my 60th birthday and as a fundraiser for the building fund. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone involved, and to let you know how the evening went. The Birthday Committee managed to surprise me by bringing members of my family here for the celebration and it was a great deal of fun. Only the true stories were told that evening during the “let’s surprise Fr. Kevin program”. As you may know I don’t deal well with surprises but I am sure I will recover. The food was fantastic and even my Irish mother truly enjoyed the meal. The decorations were also a great surprise and the hall actually looked grand. The final shock was Karen Keith presenting me with a deposit slip for $127,800 dollars for the building fund. Forward in Faith we go. Since then more money has come in, see below for details.Thank you and God bless you for your support.
