The Gordon West Uniform Committee is in the process of preparing visual displays for the parents of Gordon West of the three girl’s winter/summer options on which the school community will be asked to vote later in the term. Parents will recall that legislative changes have been implemented to ensure that girls have the option of wearing shorts in summer and pants in winter should they and their parents so desire. A big thank you to the Uniform Committee on the enormous amount of work involved in this very sensitive task in reference to decisions relating to school uniform choices.

External Validation Under the leadership of Mr Sparke and his Executive team Gordon West Public School is preparing for the process of External Validation. Once during a five-year cycle, schools in NSW undergo this process. An independent panel comprising of a Principal, School Leadership (PSL) and a peer Principal considers the school’s evidence of progress using the standards articulated in the School Excellence Framework (SEF).

External validation provides an opportunity for schools to discuss their judgements about the school’s practice, and the evidence that underpins them, with a panel of peers.

The aim of the External Validation is to investigate if the Elements of the School Excellence Framework are embedded in our school practices and our School Plan including our School Strategic Directions encompassing the domains of Learning, Teaching and Leading are being successfully delivered by examining the body of evidence. The comprehensive EV report provides an analysis and evaluates our current practice at Gordon West Primary School against each of the domains and elements of the School Excellence Framework. The Gordon West PS Validation team has worked collaboratively to collect and analyse each piece of evidence against the School Excellence Framework and our School Plan 2018-2020. The Gordon West External Validation team will present

an overview of the Validation process and panel findings

at a meeting of the Gordon West Parents and Citizens

Association meeting during Term 4.

The Tell Them From Me: Parent Survey (Term 3, 2019)

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops

or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and

is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 26

August and 25 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely

voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

To access the survey for our school go to:http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/gwps12

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

The survey is available in 23 languages.
