Whole School Reward

It was wonderful to see students dress up as a superhero on Friday as part of their whole school reward. They continue to demonstrate the school values and are now working towards a crazy hair day reward.

Parent/Student Report

Thank you to the parents who have returned their parent/student reports. They gave the teachers an insight into how students coped with learning from home and students a chance to reflect on their own learning. It’s not too late to send them in and it would be great to have 100% of the reports returned.

Year 6 High School transition

This Wednesday 17 June, Miss Malagre from Murrumbidgee Regional High School will visit the school to meet the Year 6 students going to the Griffith site in 2021. When we receive all the details, we will send home the timetable and information about the transition program. The first session is Term 3, Week 1 (Thursday 23 July) between 9:10 and 11:10am.

Anti-bullying Plan

Last week the teachers reviewed the Department of Education’s Bullying of Students - Prevention and Response Policy and developed our school’s anti-bullying plan. This plan will be published on the school website along with the Department’s Behaviour Code for Students.

Attendance

All students are expected to attend school unless they are unwell. If your child is sick, they must not come to school. You must keep them at home and away from others.

Return to full-time face-to-face Learning

Emailed with the newsletter are the guidelines for the school activities that are allowed from Monday 15 June and from the beginning of Term 3.

I have decided to put some sporting activities and carnivals on hold until Term 3.

The following events will be reconsidered in Term 3. For now these events must remain on hold.

• Parent attendance at assemblies and other school events (e.g. graduation ceremonies or student speech events)

• Excursions • School camps • Group photos for staff

• Parent volunteers – e.g. parent reading helpers (note: canteen and uniform shop volunteers are permitted)

• School based activities that involve large gatherings of adults are not permitted at this time. These include parent/community gatherings such as parent functions, working bees, fundraisers, school BBQs, large parent information evenings, and large on-site cultural events. These large gatherings and other activities will continue to be reviewed and assessed based on AHPPC and NSW Health advice and may be permitted at a later date.

Dropping off Students

Thank you to the parents who are following our procedures for entering the school; it is greatly appreciated. These procedures will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Parents are requested to enter the school via the office gate (Moira Street entrance). If you need to see your child or a teacher, the staff will bring them to the office. Parents are asked not to enter the classrooms as we want everyone to be as safe as possible. Students should be dropped off and picked up from the Penney Street gate and we ask parents to wait outside the school grounds. Students will meet them on the school side of the road at the gate.

Routines will still be the same for students catching the bus, walking or riding a bike/scooter.

in the classrooms? K/1/2 News Little pig, little pig, let me come in! Not by the hair of my chinny, chin, chin! Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll…

K/1/2 were focusing on the Three Little Pigs this week. The houses the pigs built just weren’t up to scratch. So, we designed new ones! We designed our houses to be strong

enough to withstand the wolf’s big, bad breath!

Here are our designs.

House of straw

House of sticks

House of bricks

Scan this QR code to see what happened.

After we tested our designs we discussed what worked well and what we could change. The class had 10 minutes to improve their designs. On the second test, all the little pigs were safe!

LEGO WeDo 2.0 and Recycling In technology last week, students in 3-6 investigated the importance of recycling and the different ways products can be recycled. Their challenge was to explore how better sorting methods for recycling could aid in reducing the amount of waste that is discarded. They had to create and program a recycling truck that could sort recyclables according to their size and shape.

Students had almost completed their builds, which means this week they will begin investigating ways that they can modify their recycling trucks to be more efficient at sorting the waste they collect.

Super Students! Superhero: A superhero is a person who does heroic deeds and has the ability to do them in a way that a normal person couldn't. They use their power for good and not evil!

Last Friday, students who had been consistently meeting our whole school values of being respectful, responsible and resilient learners were rewarded with the opportunity to dress up as their favourite superhero. Students were not only dressed up as comic superheros but there were a number of students who dressed up as our current superheroes including farmers, parents, teachers and emergency workers.

We look forward to this Friday's Positive Behaviour for Learning reward, which will be a delicious ice-cream spider!

Surprise!

On Wednesday 10 June the Club had a visit from The Hon. Adam Marshall, MP who is the Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Western NSW. He confirmed that the Club has been successful in the Stronger Country Community Fund Round 3 for a grant of approximately $165,000.00 being for the replacement of the air conditioner, new blinds throughout, new awnings in the BBQ area and electric shutters along the western wall of the building. Also, two new

retractable walls to aid with air conditioner zones and help reduce energy costs. We had lost all hope as this was supposed to be announced in late January, early February, and we have had two prior applications denied.

We are hoping that all this will be completed before summer 2020/2021. Thank you especially to our application writer and all the locals who helped with quotes etc. and as always to the committee and community for supporting the application. Finally, some good news for our little community.
