8/8/2019 Goodbye Apathy: Chapter One BETA http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/goodbye-apathy-chapter-one-beta 1/4 It was safe to say Arthur wouldnt be getting out of this one. There he was, standing in front of an airport, ticket in hand. He shifted his weight from one foot to another, debating if his escort would chase after him if he attempted to escape. He took a glance behind him to see the big built man, arms crossed, fist clenched, as if ready for any move Arthur tried to pull. Arthur turned around and let out a defeated sigh. He grabbed his suitcase and headed inside. There really was no escaping this time. Sure he was supposed to act like a gentleman but, quite frankly, he found that a tad bit boring. He loved the rush he felt w hen he got in trouble. It made him feel more alive . Of course his parents, or anyone from his family, werent fond of the way he was acting. They had excused past events, hoping his attitude would change, but Arthurs latest incident was the last straw. The blond managed, by some miracle, to move the Deans car in front of the school. Unfortunately, the car was in the pond by next morning as it had rolled down the small hill. He would have gotten away with it if it wasnt for an anonymous tip. The Dean called him and his parents to his office and hit him with expulsion. So here he was, boarding a plane to America in attempt for his behavior to improve. Of course he thought all of this was stupid but having an escort make sure you dont try to run told him that his parents were serious. After getting on the plane and enduring about 7 hours of nothing but stupid movies and loud snoring, he finally arrived to America. Already not too fond of it, he found a taxi and headed to his new school. His mood quickly decreased as he got closer to his new place. He closed his eyes and decided to take a small nap, not wanting to face this homesickness he was suddenly feeling. --- Hey kid, wake up. Arthur groaned and shifted a bit, not wanting to wake up just yet. He ignored whoever was calling him and attempted to fall asleep. His eyes suddenly shot wide open as he felt a hand shake him. He pushed the mans hand away and glared at him. Excuse me but what on earth are you doing? He asked, irritated that he was rudely woken up. Im trying to wake your ass up. Were here. The man said, equally irritated at the boy. He flattened out his hand in front of him. Come on, your fee is $78. Arthur growled but complied and handed the money to the taxi driver. Good thing his mother had given him American money or else hed be in trouble. Getting out of the cab, he dragged his suitcase towards the main building of the school. It was early so everything was quiet and peaceful. Entering the main office, he went up to the front desk. The woman ignored him and flipped a page from her magazine. Arthur, still irritated from before, knocked on the desk. No answer.

Hey kid, wake up.

Arthur groaned and shifted a bit, not wanting to wake up just yet. He ignored whoever was calling himand attempted to fall asleep. His eyes suddenly shot wide open as he felt a hand shake him. He pushedthe man s hand away and glared at him.

Hey! He yelled, quitting the polite act.

The woman jumped by the sudden yell and glared at the boy. What?

I m here to see the Dean. The Briton said

And who might you be? The woman asked, obviously not taking a liking to Arthur already. She lookedat him, as if pointing out all the things she already hated about him.

Arthur Kirkland. He simply said. They should be expecting him here anyways, so surely they notifiedthis rude person about his arrival.

That s you? Well, whatever. The Dean isn t here at the moment so you might as well go to your room. Here, She shoved the dorm key to him and waved him off. Someone will call you when he arrives.

Without saying another word, Arthur headed towards the elevator. He s only been here for a fewminutes and he had already made an enemy. He looked at his key and saw 4F-308 engraved on it.

Guessing the 4F meant the floor, he pressed the button on the elevator and headed up. He walked downthe hall and looked for room 308.

After finally finding it, he took in a deep breath and pushed the key inside the lock. Opening the door, hepeeked inside to find the room dark.

Of cours e it d be d a rk, Ar th ur, it s 6 AM in the mor ning. T he y r e a sleep. He told himself. He quietlyentered the room and flicked the lights on. He looked over to one of the beds and, to his surprised, itwas empty. Well, the bed was at least.

Arthur was quick to notice the huge French flag in the middle of their side. Either the person was fromFrance or he just loved the country. A deep blush found its way towards Arthur has he then noticed theposters on both sides of the flag.

He quickly turned around and attempted to destroy those images from his mind. Never in his life had heseen so many br ea st s. Wondering if those posters were even all ow ed to be hanged up, Arthurunpacked and set up his side of the room. It didn t take long seeing as he didn t bring much but clothesand school supplies.

Arthur, still trying to avoid looking at his roommate s wall, crashed down on his bed and sighed. Hewanted to go back to England but if he acted like some delinquent , as his mother loved to put it, he d

be stuck here forever. Of course this wasn t going to be easy but he was up for the challenge. ArthurKirkland didn t lose to anyone.

All of a sudden, the door to the room flew open and laughter filled the once quiet room. Arthur shot upfrom his bed and looked over to see who entered.

A blond-haired male entered the room, his arm around a girl s waist, his eyes looking at her as if he wasready to devour her. He smiled as he led the girl in and constantly whispered things into her ear. The girlgiggled and blushed, and eyed him intently.

Arthur, feeling even more awkward than before, coughed into his hand. The male turned his head and a

surprised looked came over him. The blond turned his head, whispered an o the r thing to the girl, beforegetting back up and leading her out. After closing the door, the male walked over to Arthur and took hishand.

Uh, Arthur really had no words to say. Assuming this was his roommate, he already didn t take a likingto him. He comes in, finds pictures that look like they came from some porn magazine, and let s notforget the almost-make-out session he was about to have just now.

Bonjour, je m'appelle Francis, Francis said, a smile on his face. He eyed Arthur before he brought hislips to his hand and planted a soft kiss on it. Qui-êtes-vous?

Arthur pulled his hand away and pushed the man away from him. I don t know what you re saying butthe answer is no. And don t kiss my hand you you damn frog! The French man did something Arthurdid not expect. He la ughe d .

Mon ami, Francis said, trying to control his laughter. I simply said my name is Francis. You might wantto change your answer seeing as I doubt your name is no .

Arthur glared at Francis before turning his head. He did not like this guy one bit. Arthur. ArthurKirkland.

Francis smiled and sat on his bed. He pushed his blond hair and nodded. And you are my new

roommate, Arthur?

Arthur simply nodded, not wanting to speak to this guy more than he should.

Let me guess, Francis started out. He raised a finger, his face filled with concentration. Arthur wouldhave spoken after a while when Francis suddenly began talking again. Angleterre?

The way he said that last word made Arthur suspicious. What?

Francis laughed again and shook his head. I am guessing that you come from England. Mon ami, youmust learn the French language! It is the language of love after all. Anybody would love to be talked to

in French, don t you agree? No.

Ah, is something wrong? Francis asked, his blue eyes eyeing him once again. Arthur shuddered andkept his head turned. He did not want to look at him or his damn wall. All he wanted to do was go home, back to England with his friends.

Francis sighed and fell against his bed. He crossed his arms behind his head and turned his head so hewas facing Arthur. Well then, why are you here? It s not every day this school gets a new student.

Arthur took a glance at Francis before turning his head again. Sure this seemed childish but he couldcare less. If he wanted to be difficult to deal with, then that s what he ll do. He didn t need anyone liking

him in this damn school.

Telling Francis that he was a troublemaker would help him, though. He could get nervous and paranoidthat he d do something to him and he d request to change rooms. Or even complain to the Dean of thisschool if he d i d do something and get expelled. And when his parents would come for the news, they d just take him back to England without any hope left for their child.

Liking the idea of that, Arthur leaned against the wall of his side and crossed his arms. My parents hadenough of me so they sent me here to this school. I did a lot of pranks, Arthur paused and smirked.

Some dangerous, maybe even deadly.

Francis seemed unfazed by this, however. He nodded, expecting Arthur to go on.
