Message from Monsignor René Mathieu:

(1) Schedule of Masses: The final 5:30 pm Mass of the season at

Saint Brendan in Biddeford Pool is being celebrated this Saturday.

(2) Knights of Columbus are serving a benefit spaghetti supper this

Saturday evening, October 10, at Most Holy Trinity Church Hall from

5:00 to 6:30 pm. (3) This Sunday, October 11, a communal celebration

of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick (without Mass) will be

celebrated at Most Holy Trinity Church beginning at 2:00 pm. Who should be

anointed? “Anyone whose health is seriously impaired, before surgery whenever a

serious illness is the reason for the surgery, elderly people who have become notably

weakened even though no serious illness is present, and sick children who have

sufficient use of reason (that is, the age of First Communion). The sacrament may be

repeated if the sick person recovers after being anointed and then again falls ill, or if

during the same illness the person’s condition becomes more serious.” I urge parish-

ioners who are not themselves in need of this sacrament, to join us for this celebra-

tion in order to provide prayerful support of fellow parishioners in need of healing

and comfort. (4) Last Monday, I officiated at the annual blessing of animals in the

St. James School yard. There were lots of dogs (and one very nervous cat!), bunnies,

and rodents of all kinds. This particular blessing is associated with St. Francis of

Assisi, whose feast falls in the Church calendar on October 4. (5) This past week, we

completed the installation of a three-unit (130K BTUs each) high efficiency propane

heat system for St. Margaret Church. The outdated, old furnaces and oil tanks

were removed from the building and a 1,000 gallon propane tank was added on the

lawn between the church and church hall. The cost of the system was paid by the

St. Margaret Church share of donations to the 5-year-long diocesan capital campaign

ending this year, Strengthening the Heartbeat of the Church. (6) I am pleased to

announce that one of our parishioners, Ken Greenleaf, has been appointed to the

Diocesan Pastoral Council by Bishop Deeley. Bishop Deeley re-established the

council in July; members of the council advise the bishop on pastoral matters of

interest of the entire diocese – similar to the role served in individual parishes by

pastoral councils. Ken was instrumental in founding the men’s group that meets in our parish on Saturday mornings. He also is a catechist in our faith formation program.

You may be interested to know that my brother priests have re-elected me to serve

on the Presbyteral Council, which also advises the bishop. (7) Thank you of the

Week: To Father Ron Labarre, who for most of the summer, served the needs of

those who participated in the sacraments at St. Brendan Chapel. I am especially

grateful for the parishioners and friends who see to the various needs of the chapel.

Parishioners, parents and students gathered together at Saint James’ school yard on a beautiful

October morning to be a part of a prayer ceremony to

bless the animals. Monsignor Mathieu was on hand

to speak about Saint Francis of Assisi and how he communicated with

animals and how animals help us in so many ways in this world. We

had animals as small as a mouse to a Great Dane that was the size of a

pony. Some people brought photographs of their pets that were either

too large or too sick to make it in person. It was a beautiful day and a

beautiful ceremony, and we were all blessed to be a part of it!

Good Shepherd Parish is offering an Anointing of the Sick Service this Sunday, October 11, 2:00 pm, at MHT Church. The prayer service will be followed by light refreshments. St. Philip’s Annual Harvest Fair: October 31st & November 1st

The Harvest Fair is quickly approaching. To make this year's fair the best ever, we are still in

need of help from Good Shepherd Parish parishioners and family & friends of St. Philip Church.

Following are a few ideas for our Penny Raffle tables: * We need gift cards to local businesses, restaurants or garden shops. * Also, outdoor living accessories, toys, jewelry and fitness items. * Other suggestions are items donated from your business or employer, ie: oil changes, car detailing, paddle board & kayak rentals. * Families may also want to donate passes to museums, theater tickets, or sporting events. The craft tables need your help with donations of locally crafted items such as: knitted hats, mittens, fingerless gloves, jewelry, artwork, quilts and baskets. Donated items can be dropped off before or after each of the 2 Masses or you may call Gisele at 499-7453 or Donna at 499-7490. The fair will also have the Adult & Children's Treasure Chest Tables and Baked Goods Table, as well as our famous homemade pork pies.

October 24 (Sat): World Youth Day Benefit Concert & Dance Come for a night of music & dancing, featuring Josh Houde, Bob Therrien & company, and Hat Trick, led by Kevin Jandreau. Josh will perform coffee-house style; Bob & co. will play old-time country;

and Hat Trick will play various classics to dance to. Tickets are just $5/pp, $20 max/family. Proceeds benefit the 6 pilgrims planning to attend WYD 2016 in Poland. Doors open at 5:30 pm.
