The Good Shepherd Appeal• The Good Shepherd Appeal started in 1903 by Father James

Nugent.• It was started to help the most vulnerable children and

adults in the North West.• Last year schools across the Archdiocese raised £56,328.99.

• The Season of Lent is from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday.

What challenges did families face when the Good Shepherd Appeal started in 1903?

The Good Shepherd Appeal was started because there were so many poor and needy people.

Father Nugent saw a lot of people without any shoes and who were hungry and dirty. They did not have a home to sleep in and they huddled together on the streets in the winter to try and

keep warm.

Nugent, then who is Nugent Care?

Nugent Care is the charity of the Archdiocese of Liverpool and was founded in 1881 by Father James Nugent. Today

we carry on his work supporting and helping children, adults and the community.

Some of the things we do with your money

Help people to hear again.Provide people with a bag of food.Train people to become volunteers.Support people that are homeless.Support and help children and adults in our schools and care homes.
