Amnoi Notes

You probably know how a fam-ily tree works. It’s called a family tree because as the names go back for several generations the family branches out, and it looks like the branches of a tree.

God foretold that there would be a very special “branch” in King David’s family tree.

Jeremiah 23:5,6 speaks of this “branch” of David’s fam-ily tree: “ ‘The days are

coming’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will raise up to

David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and

do what is just and right in

the land. In his days Judah

will be saved and Israel will

live in safety. This is the

name by which he will be

called: The LORD Our Right-

eousness.’ ”

Jeremiah describes this branch as righteous. Jesus is righteous, “right” before God, having no sin. He is the King who rules wisely and always does what is right. Jeremiah calls him: “The LORD Our Righteousness.” Jesus, our King, rules in righteousness.

We don’t always do what is right in God’s sight. We do many wrong things. God calls them sin. Jesus came as the righteous branch of David’s family to always do the right

thing and keep God’s com-mandments for us. He did the right thing by dying on the cross in our place. He suffered and died for our wrongs and sins. He, the Lord himself, IS our right-eousness. We are right be-fore God through faith in Jesus, our King.

• Lead children to eternal life with their Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ.

• Contribute to their spiri-tual, intellectual, physi-cal, and emotional, and social development.

• Prepare them for life-long Christian faith, ser-vice, and learning.

Gifts To Those In Need

Northside Ministry Center, Milwaukee, WI—Christmas is a time of giving. Just as we have done in the previous years, our students will not exchange gifts with one another, but will share with others who are less fortunate. The WELS Ministry Center is a store front ministry in the central city of Milwaukee. It is a base of operations for several ministries that work to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people living in the inner city. The Center is a place of Bible study and worship so that people may know and believe that Jesus has paid for all their sins and that they may learn how to serve God in a spirit of thankfulness and praise. We will be collecting gifts through December 17th. The gift should be new and unwrapped. You may place your gift in the gift boxes located by the preschool door and in the school hallways. Participation is voluntary.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

(Matthew 23:40)

2nd Quarter Mission Offering

Brief History of Peace Lutheran Church of Sahuarita, AZ

Peace Lutheran Church had its beginnings in 1985 when the Arizona Mission Board called Pastor Mike Biedenbender to explore the possibility of starting a new congregation on the Southwest side of Tucson. At that time, there were four other WELS congregations in Tucson, but none on the south side.

In 1986, with less than a dozen members, the Mission Board purchased a 3-acre site with 20-year-old buildings. The facility served Peace well for 15 years, but by the year 2001, it was apparent that growth in the area was occurring south of Peace in a new community called Sahuarita and in an established retirement community called Green Valley. With encouragement from the Mission Board, the congregation decided to relocate to this area as soon as the Tucson property could be sold. The congregation continued to worship in Tucson until the property finally sold in 2004.

The congregation purchased a former horse property in Sahuarita in 2004 and renovated the ranch style house into a worship facility and education center. An existing guest house was renovated into office and library space. The horse adobe stables were converted in storage rooms. The architecture is adobe brick with a Mexican red clay tile roof.

The property and facility give the church a unique setting. A pine tree forest, originally designed to be a Christmas tree farm, provides a retreat-like atmosphere and shields the noise from a busy road to the west. The walled-in back yard of the home is landscaped with grass, palm trees and jasmine vines and give it a tropical flair. The remainder of the 4.2 acre property is native desert with cactus, mesquite trees and creosote bushes. Members have witnessed all kinds of desert wildlife on the property, including tarantulas, gila monsters, many different kinds of snakes and lizards and horned toads, javelina, a bobcat and a large horned owl.

Peace has done extensive outreach in the new area, including Vacation Bible School, Christmas for Kids, and Easter for Kids. A preschool was also started in 2007. Despite the many efforts to bring in younger families, Peace remains an oa-sis for retired WELS members who spend all or part of their winters in Green Valley, our local retirement community. Affectionately known as “Snowbirds”, the Winter visitors from the North double the winter worship attendance at Peace. Summer temperatures consistently averaging 105 degrees keep all but the most hardened “desert survivors” away.

Peace works together with the other 5 WELS churches in the Tucson area to perform joint missionary work. Each con-gregation has its own personality, but all are committed to teaching the Bible as God's inspired Word and proclaiming the message of salvation in Jesus Christ to those who live in the Sonoran desert of Southern Arizona. Peace also sup-ports several local ministries, including Mission to the Children, a mission of mercy to the impoverished children living in northern Sonora, Mexico.

Peace remains a Mission congregation of the WELS, but does not receive any financial assistance. The congregation con-tinues to reach out with the Good News of Jesus, but the recent hard economic times have affected this little congre-gation. It is exploring different ways to continue the full time work in 2011 with 20% reduction in budget.

Peace thanks you for your interest and support – and asks for your continued prayers as we walk together, serving our Lord Jesus.

Precious Lambs News (Miss Rautenberg)

Our Bible story this week is The Angel Gabriel Visits Mary. The baby Jesus is coming soon! We have been working hard to learn the first verse of Away in a Man-ger:

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed. The little Lord Jesus, lay down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky, look down where he lay. The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

Our letter this week is Ii. We enjoyed making ( and snacking on ) our snowy, marshmallow Igloos.

We have been busy with Christmas projects and sto-ries. A great book we are sharing this week is The Three Snowbears by Jan Brett.

Precious Lambs News (Mrs. Schwartz)

Put it in the microwave for 4 minutes. Cut it and put salt and pepper on it. Then you put it in the oven for 50 minutes. Then you eat it.

B. H. - 4 years old

I would find a turkey at the woods. Then I would put some powdered sugar on it. Just a little bit. I would cut it and then put it in the oven for 5 min-utes. I would get it out and get some sauce and put it in a bag. I would shake it a little bit. Then I would get the turkey out and put some ingredi-ents on it like spices and peppers. Then I would eat it.

A. M. - 4 years old

I would put the turkey in water and he would turn into cheese. And I would make a cheese sandwich out of him. I would eat him up.
