SPMM’s Occupational Safety and Health Program is utilizing Integrated Management System anchored in DOLE Zero Accident Program Framework. One of the employee engagement and recognition programs of the company is the Good Catch Program. This program is a vehicle in promoting and maintaining an incident and injury free workplace to continuously improve the site safety performance through identification, observation, reduction of at risk behaviors and elimination of incident and injury. All employees are encouraged to participate in the program. Employees observe good catch, i.e. at risk-behavior, unsafe acts, or unsafe conditions. Reporting is done through email and immediately received by concern group including EHS and identified list of good catch team. EHS Team will then assess the submitted good catch. Good catch will be acted upon for timely closure as to the intervention needed by specific owner for appropriate action or recommended improvement. Closure is verified and effectiveness is monitored. Employees are then incentivized with corresponding token. This program is heavily reliant on employee involvement with increased awareness and participation of employees as evident indicator. Employees got to own then Good Catch program resulting to a successful and consistent implementation not only of this specific program but the rest of EHS programs. A program intended for employees, implemented by employees and benefited by employees makes a program acceptable and fully supported by no other than the employees themselves. Thus, having safety as everybody’s responsibility.
