Holiday Edition 2010

Now that Heath Care legislation has passed, the obvious question for oppo-nents is this: Now What? My answer is best summed up with just one word:

Marijuana.

No, I don’t mean that you should go out and smoke away your anger and frustra-tion. Instead, you should feel empow-ered. The best way to explain this is by telling the story of a disabled mother from Northern California.

ANGEL’S STORY

Angel Raich has been permanently dis-abled since 1995. She has an inoperable brain tumor, a seizure disorder and other serious medical conditions. In 1997, her doctor felt that marijuana would be an effective medication.

Angel used homegrown marijuana, and she and her physician claim that it’s helped significantly. You may not agree with Angel’s choice, but it’s one made in accordance with California state law, which allows for such use. The federal government, however, has not shown much respect for state laws in recent decades, and chose to take action. After DEA agents seized and destroyed all six of her marijuana plants, she sued to stop

them from doing so again.

The suit went all the way to the Supreme Court, and in Gonzales v Raich, Angel lost. The 2005 ruling made clear that the federal government did not recognize state laws authorizing the use of mari-juana – in any situation.

THE COMMERCE CLAUSE

The court ruled that control over a plant grown and consumed on one’s own property was authorized under the “In-terstate Commerce Clause” of the Con-stitution. Article I, Section 8, Clause 3 of the Constitution empowers Congress to “regulate…commerce among the several states.” It has never been amended.

Like any legal document, if the words of the Constitution mean today what they meant at the moment it was signed, we must understand just what those words meant at the time of its ratification.

There’s been a lot of scholarly research on this clause, especially the word “commerce” itself. Without getting into the long details of it all, it means this: Congress is authorized to make uniform national rules on the trade and exchange of goods (and related activities like their transportation) that cross state borders.

On top of it, the word “regulate” meant to “make regular” – that is, to specify how these transactions may be conduct-ed. Regulate did not mean ban, prohibit, or mandate. These words have different meanings.

With this in mind, the Supreme Court, which is not a set of nine infallible gods, ruled incorrectly. But rule, they did. Thus, all three federal branches agreed that State-level laws allowing marijuana were a no-go. In his dissent, Justice Clarence Thomas gave a stark warning:

“If the Federal Government can regulate growing a half-dozen cannabis plants for personal consumption…then Congress’ Article I powers…have no meaningful limits. Whether Congress aims at the possession of drugs, guns, or any num-ber of other items, it may continue to appropria[te] state police powers under the guise of regulating commerce.”

RESIST DC

Even though she lost the case, Angel in-dicated she’d continue to use marijuana. At the time of the ruling, there were 10 states that had such laws. Not one of them has been repealed. Since then, an-other 4 states have passed similar laws, and many others are considering them,

THINK/LIVE I recently sat down with Amy Oliver, founder of Moth-ers Against Debt, who has taken on the important task of reaching out to mothers across the country who are concerned about our current financial burden and the impact it will have on their children. Mrs. Oliver hosts a weekly radio show out of Greeley, Colorado and is also the Director of the Colorado Transparency Project at the Independence Institute, a Colorado state-based think tank.

Amanda: Good afternoon Amy and thank you for joining us!

Amy: Thanks for having me! I always enjoy talking to people who are a little younger than me, since you are the ones who will have to pay all the bills. My generation gets to spend and you get stuck with the debt. So I wish you would get to work a little harder, earn a little bit more money and pay a little bit more in taxes so I can go enjoy all of my entitlement programs! In fact, I’ve already told my kids they also need to get to work, now that my youngest is 13 and has started babysitting.

Amanda: You should go a step further and withhold a certain percentage from her paychecks, perhaps 25%, to represent her Social Security payments.

Amy: It might even be more than that, but the bottom line is that we do need you guys to be taxpayers if we are go-ing to pay down this debt.

Amanda: So tell us a little bit more about the group you founded, Mothers Against Debt.

Amy: Well, the idea actually began a few years ago while I was riding in the car with my kids. I heard Nancy Pelosi on the radio state that she was the most powerful woman in America. When I heard that I turned around to ask my kids who they felt was the most powerful woman. Since I have a graduate degree in American History and I’m always grilling them on this kind of stuff, I knew they weren’t exactly sure how to respond. It was when I asked about the most powerful woman in their lives that they came up with the correct answer, which of course was their mother.

However, even if my kids did get it right, I was still hor-ribly offended by Pelosi’s claim. At the same time, I saw that there was some truth behind it. Our elected officials are in fact, incredibly powerful, considering the way they have enslaved our children. I believe that as parents we have somewhat abdicated our role and have given up the responsibility of parenting. Our federal government is micro-managing our lives by telling us how to raise our kids, and we spend our time worrying about things like what they’re wearing or watching on television, but we don’t spend a lot of time thinking about what we have done to them financially. The truth is that any American born today is already chained with a debt that is over $42,000, and for those who will be taxpayers it goes up to $119,000. That is the legacy we are leaving our children, and I believe that as parents we need to take responsibil-ity. My generation has spent it, and we’ve just got to

stop. So I started this group in order to begin taking on that responsibility myself.

MAD is made up of mothers and fathers around the country who have become involved in discussions on our Facebook page about the future we are creating for our kids. They are finding that we are leaving our children with a legacy of bankruptcy and are forcing them to pay off a debt that is not sustainable and that they never agreed to. It’s a crime, it’s fiscal child abuse, and we should be indicted as parents. The purpose of MAD is to let parents know that government spending is not their friend, and it’s not “for the children”. When our govern-ment claims that it is, they are simply not telling the truth!

Amanda: It’s interesting that you say we are enslaving our children. I recently attended a conference where Con-gresswoman Michelle Bachmann claimed Obama was making slaves out of us. A journalist covering the story turned it into some sort of lunatic rant. But I think you are absolutely correct. People need to see that we are not fear mongers, and that the truth is we are chained to this debt and someone is going to have to pay for it.

“Baby boomers were born of the greatest generation, and we spent like crack addicts that always needed the next fix.”

Amy: Many also justify it by saying that debt isn’t a bad thing. They compare it to our own debt when we have mortgages or car payments. While it’s true that this kind of debt can be beneficial, there is a huge difference between personal debt and debt racked up by our govern-ment. Debt is acceptable in certain instances, but the debt we have left our children, currently $13 trillion, is clearly unsustainable. I know we hear this all the time, but these levels of debt have consequences. It’s going to cost more for us to finance it, which will cause interest rates to rise. The credit markets will dry up, our kids will have to pay more in taxes and they won’t be able to keep the fruits of their labor because they have to finance a debt that was incurred by my generation. Baby boomers were born of the greatest generation, and we spent like crack addicts that always needed the next fix. We never thought we would have to pay the bill. Sadly what we have done is left it to our children and our grandchildren.

Amanda: I would also add that personal debt differs from debt incurred by our government in that it belongs to an individual who agrees to pay it back with their own earn-ings, whereas government debt is created by spending other people’s money. So where is the incentive to stop racking up the debt when the money is not yours?

Amy: There is no incentive; it’s so easy to spend some-body else’s money. One example, speaking of Nancy Pelosi, is the amount she spends (tens of thousands of dollars) every month on flowers for her office. To me, that is indicative of an attitude of entitlement and that mentality is rampant in the halls of congress. They act as though it is their money to spend when it’s the taxpayers

who earned it. As parents, we are the only ones who can stop it. Otherwise our kids are going to have an economic nightmare on their hands and will never get to enjoy the standard of living that we currently have. Amanda: It really is sad to think that the next generation may actually see their standard of living decrease rather than increase. That sure doesn’t seem to be a benefit for “the children”. Before we wrap things up, would you talk briefly about what we can do as citizens to take a stand and become a part of the solution?

Amy: I would say that one of the easiest ways to have an impact is to talk about the issue, whether it’s online or in person. A simple way to do this online is to visit the Mothers Against Debt page where you can join in the dis-cussion and stay up to date on government spending. The other thing we encourage at MAD is holding elected offi-cials accountable. One question everyone should ask any elected official, whether at the local, state or federal level, is whether they are going to be part of their children’s problem or part of their solution. If they are the spenders, don’t give them your vote. It’s that simple.

We are also currently holding a really cool contest in Colorado that I’m pretty jazzed about. It rewards citizens for uncovering government waste, so we call it the citizen auditors contest. We recently held trainings across the state where we taught concerned citizens different ways to explore government records to find information on spending. In light of Colorado’s 9% unemployment rate, we thought a cash prize would help motivate people to get involved.

We ask anyone interested in participating to send in a one-page summary along with supporting documents by October 1st, whether or not they attended a training. First prize is $2,500. There is also a second prize of $750, a third prize of $500 and a bunch of honorable mentions, just for finding out how government spends our money! If anyone would like more information about the contest or is interested in participating, check out www.Moth-ersAgainstDebt.com and look for the citizen auditor’s page, or email [email protected]. I encourage anyone interested to participate in this contest, as it really is a good cause and a great opportunity to win some prize money!

Amanda: If stopping our debt isn’t incentive enough, than $2,500 should be! Anyone reading this article should take Amy up on this incredible opportunity. I also hope her story will encourage you to get involved – especially with her terrific organization, Mothers Against Debt.

PROSPERSoil is an incredible creation; it has the ability to com-municate. If you truly listen, it will tell you exactly what it needs. Is your soil telling you a story of poverty or prosperity?

When soil is tilled, disked, or plowed and it has hard-pan, plowpan, compaction, or lumps, your soil is communicating that minerals are bonding together in unhealthy patterns and will not be available to the plants we want to produce.

Without exception, hardpan, plowpan, compaction, lumps and clumps are letting us know there is a defi-ciency of AVAILABLE calcium. When P.H. of soil is too high or too low, there is a deficient amount of avail-able calcium. Balance the minerals in your soil and your soil’s P.H. will naturally balance itself.

Alkali or high salt soil is screaming for help. During the degradation of these areas your soil is telling you exactly what’s going on. For example: when dandelions grow, salt is starting to cause a problem. Next, if you notice along with dandelions, kochia is starting to grow, the salt content is steadily increasing. The next salt loving plant to move in will be foxtail. If foxtail cannot absorb the ever increasing salt content of you soil; the soil then goes dormant or alkali. Several things can be thanked for the increased salt in soil.

Many chemicals and fertilizers contain salt as a carrier, preservative, or safety agent. Wet years and irrigation also bring salts to the surface. The beneficial bacteria in the soil does not like salt and has trouble living in a saline environment. The benefits and jobs that these bacteria do are now negatively altered. Stalks, mulch, and organic matter are now being oxidized rather than being absorbed into the earth. This carbon is not being converted into sugar. When the sugar content of the soil decreases, the sugar content of the plant will also decrease. Low sugar soil and plants give off high infra-red, which fits right into plant feeding insect’s vision. The high infrared can be seen up to eight miles away by plant feeding insects. When your insect problem in-creases, you apply more insecticide, which probably has salt, which now adds to your already existing problem.

It is common knowledge that a sugar content of 13% or more is very beneficial for your plant’s insect resistance. We know that these insects do not have a pancreas and cannot digest high sugar fiber. We also know that if sugar content is low, plants will never grow to the extent of their genetic potential. These plants will also be low in minerals, vitamins, amino acids and have poor general nutrition. These plants are also losing out on their share of free nitrogen, which makes up over 78% of the air we breathe. These same low sugar plants have also lost some of the ability to draw moisture from the air, which now increases the effects of a drought, or increases irrigation costs.

The deficiency of available calcium also plagues your soil and plants with other problems. Weed growth tells a story. Cockle Burr grows in the deficiency of the avail-able mineral silver. Bull Thistle grows in the deficiency of available zinc. Musk and Canada Thistles grow in the deficiency of available phosphorus and Leafy Spurge grows in the deficiency of available nickel. Every min-eral has a job.

When these miner-als are tied up or not available, this now causes landowners to “react to symp-toms” which is how chemical companies prosper. Knowledge is power; and when we understand the job and importance of each mineral, we can “cor-rect the cause”.

Calcium is said to be the “Foundation of Life” and is involved in many metabolic and physiological functions. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in our bodies, giving us structure and electrically fueling our hearts. It is also the most abundant mineral in the bodies of all animals. Looking at the food chain, common sense tells us that calcium should also be the most abundant mineral in the soil. Available Calcium is the referee, and the mediator, with phosphorus being the transporter of minerals in the soil. Phorphorus is the work horse needed to transport the other minerals to the plants, so without available calcium and phorphorusnone of the other minerals can work at the efficiency needed for optimum plant production. When looking at calcium, the molecular weight is quite heavy and science tells us that it carries a double positive electrical charge. Con-ventional markets offer double positive calcium that has very low availability and very high P.H. Until recently, Dolomite or Gypsum have been about our only choices for calcium. When looking at soil tests and P.H. levels, options for balancing available calcium have been less than desirable. To accurately determine your calcium needs, your soil test must measure mineral content on an AVAILABLE BASIS, anything else is WORTHLESS.

Modern science has made great strides in understand-ing the requirements of mineral supplementation for soil and plants. Soil Works LLC has found that by using a negative based calcium supplement, the amount of calcium needed per acre is dramatically reduced and the benefits are exponentially returned, When a heavy negative based calcium is applied to your soil, there is a natural attraction to the molecularly light and positive charged salt particles. The sheer weight of the calcium grabs onto the salt and carries it down to the subsoil away from your feeder roots and your aerobic bacteria, allowing them to proliferate and do their job once again at the efficiency that is healthy and financially reward-ing to you.

Please Continue with Next Post “Correcting the Cause” - Genesis Soil Rite, Part III

Genesis is a proprietary blend of all natural vitamins, minerals, amino acid, herbs and spices; and contains a negative-based calcium which aids in your natural soil-building program. Genesis will start decreasing salts, allowing beneficial bacteria to reproduce at the rate nature intended, also unlocking minerals that will now

be available to your plants. This negative based calcium can increase foliar absorption of nutrients. In addition, this negative based calcium in Genesis will also start transporting nutrients to the feeder roots. We all know the benefits of a well-balanced meal, whether that meal is for humans, plants or animals. Other benefits of bal-ancing the proper available calcium in your soil include:

* Decreased soil compaction * Decreased plowpan * Decreased hardpan * Decreased salt content in topsoil * Decreased fertilizer requirements * Decreased herbicide usage * Decreased insecticide usage * Decreased irrigation costs * Increase in beneficial bacteria activity * Balancing P.H.

Proper supplementation and balancing of minerals will increase your aerobic zone, in turn increasing the cubic area of nutrient intake and root depth.

We, at Soil Works LLC, and Miramar Management and Consulting realize there are two levels of plant life. The upper level of plant life, which produces food for animals and humans. These plants enjoy a high sugar content and a properly balanced nutrient rich available source of minerals. The lower level of undesirable plant life, we call “the janitorial weeds”, enjoy a low sugar environment and an imbalance of minerals. They grow in an attempt to correct an imbalance problem. A book by Jay L. McCaman “Weeds and Why They Grow” is a great way to verify what we have said here. We can assist you in engineering your soil to grow upper level plants that will benefit your bottom line.

If you have grown weary along with your soil in “Re-acting to Symptoms” and once again want to be the “steward of your soil” as nature intends, we are here to assist you in “Correcting the Cause”. Genesis Soil Rite and Phos Rite changing the way Farmers Farm!

including South Dakota, Kansas, and New Hampshire.

Today, over half a million people are registered users of medical marijuana, and estimates say that millions more use the plant without registration. What’s been the result? The federal government will occasionally arrest some high-profile users, but taken in the perspective of the multitudes consuming the plant, the threat is quite low.

And, in mid-2009, recognizing a need for “efficient and rational use of its limited investigative and prosecuto-rial resources,” the Justice Department announced that it would back off the prosecution of medical marijuana patients even further.

HUH? You might be asking, “How does this apply to healthcare mandates?” Well, the answer is pretty simple. When enough states pass laws defying federal laws, and enough people actively defy them too, D.C. simply doesn’t have the manpower to arrest and prosecute all of us.

This kind of activism – while it clearly carries personal risk – should be a real blueprint for people that have been consistently unable to find constitutional relief in Con-gress, the Executive, or the Courts.

Marijuana users: Love ‘em or hate ‘em, but show some respect for them, as many have suffered greatly for doing

what they believe is right. People who believe strongly about other issues, like health care mandates, would do well to learn from them.

What should be done about federal control over health care? The same thing that should be done for every unconstitutional federal law, regulation, or mandate – Nullify Now!
