The 78th Annual Convention of the New JerseyLicensed Beverage Association (NJLBA) is being held thisyear at the Tropicana Casino and Resort on September 28thand 29th in Atlantic City. This Convention is open to allmembers of the Alcoholic Beverage Industry. This year’sConvention promises to be packed with information andtools to assist you with your on-premise license.

As many of you are already aware the alcoholic bever-age industry is facing many new challenges with recentlyproposed legislation to create new beer and wine licenses, the transfer of retail licenses from one town to another, redevelopment zone licenses, the attack on the two licenselimitation law and the recent passing of the ignition inter-lock law just to mention a few. The NJLBA has beenmeeting with key members of the legislature to informthem of the devastating effect these bills will have on theon-premise licensees if these bills are passed. A strong andunited voice by the NJLBA is needed to defeat this legisla-tion. In that regard, we have invited Assemblyman JosephCryan and Assemblyman David Rible to attend and speakat our Convention on these issues. We have also invitedAlcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Director Jerry Fischerand his staff from the Enforcement, Regulatory, Licensingand Investigation units to provide a seminar on updateson any new issues concerning our industry including thelast drink data. This seminar is invaluable to all retailand wholesale licensees. There will also be a FakeIdentification Training with Joseph Vasil, DocumentFraud Specialist from the Division of Motor VehicleServices.

We will also have a very special presentation from AllenRiley, former New Jersey State Trooper (NJSP) and formerNJSP ABC Enforcement Officer who will provide infor-mation on how his company can assist licensees withemployee training, undercover surveillance and mysteryshopping operations, license transfer and permits, guidanceon recently established violations, education and advice onABC statutes and regulations and procedures used by ABC

Enforcement Officers. This is an excellent opportunity forlicensees to ask questions about all aspects of there busi-ness and hear first hand from someone who has in-depthknowledge and first hand experience on ABC enforcementand regulatory matters.

A convention highlight this year will be the presentationof the “NJLBA 20 Year Member Awards” at the closingdinner. Please contact the NJLBA if you are a 20-year plusmember of the Association so that you can receive youraward and be recognized at the Convention.

Further, there will be a free TAM Seminar for NJLBAmembers. The Division of ABC will also be conductinga Mandatory Package Store Education Training class. For TAM registration contact Judy at the NJLBA at609-394-6730 and for Package store training contact BethPajak of the Division of ABC at 609-984-2658. Registerearly space is limited for both classes.

As you know Conventions are an excellent opportunityto meet and exchange ideas with fellow licensees and oldfriends. Take this opportunity to get away from your hecticbusinesses and join us down at the Tropicana for informa-tive seminars, meet with legislative leaders, members ofthe ABC and NJLBA and hear first hand what the NJLBAis doing for you and what you can do to protect your busi-ness. Proceeds from the Convention go directly towardsprotecting your license.

We look forward to seeing you at the Convention.
