USO and the Asian-American Hotel Owners Association Partnership for Free Overnight Hotel Vouchers The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) and USO re-cently launched a partnership to pro-vide goodness to our troops under the “Salute Our Soldiers” program. AA-HOA collects donations from partici-pating AAHOA member hotel proper-ties across the U.S. in the form of vouchers for (1) complimentary room night at participating hotel properties. These properties span across the spectrum of the hospitality industry in the nation, from franchised independ-ent properties and from Atlanta to San Francisco. The “Salute to Troops” promotional program is effective January 1 to December 31, 2011.

These locations will distribute to Active Duty members coming into the centers. Active Duty members are eligible to re-ceive a free complimentary room for 1 night.

Applications are being accepted now until January 31, 2011 for the Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarship Program. The scholarships are awarded to spouses of all Uniformed Services members: Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve, Retirees and Survivors. The scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, and school room and board. For more information, visit the National Military Family Association website at http://www.militaryfamily.org/our-programs/military-spouse-scholarships/ The newly incorporated Order of Saint Joseph, founded by five 25thCombat Aviation Brigade spouses, is designed to recognize the impact of lengthy and repeated deployments on military families from all branches of military service. This is accomplished in two ways: Through recognition of rear detachment personnel whose service greatly improves the quality of life for military families during deployments. Awards consist of neck medallions and certificates. Awardees are nominated by military family members and forward unit commanders. Through scholarships awarded to military spouses and children whose sponsors have deployed for 120 consecutive days or more in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, or New Dawn. Two $500 scholarships are available annually. Awardees are self-nominated. This is our opportunity to give back. They are looking for volunteers to help offloading the trucks and distributing them to the local troops.

We will be closed on Monday, February 21 in observance of President’s Day The ASYMCA provides pro-grams that enhance quality of life for military members and their families. We receive no funding from the DOD. Program fees and donations cover all of our costs. English as a Second Language: This is an adult education course addressing the fundamentals of English Language. The course is appropriate for beginners or those who desire to improve their written and verbal communications skills. Classes run January 25th through April 21st and are held from 8am to 11am, the cost is $20 per ses-sion. Parent Participation Preschool: This program is for children ages 3-4, and is designed to help your pre-school child make a smooth transition into the structure of kin-dergarten with you right by his/her side. There are still limited slots available, please call (808) 624-5645 to register. The cost is $40 a month and preschool dates are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. Playmorning: An interactive playgroup for children up to age 5 and their parent or caregivers. Playmorning features a variety of age appropriate activities, crafts, songs and more! No pre-registration is required. Playmorning Fee - $2.00 per child. Playmorning Punch Cards are also available at $20.00 for 11 Visits.

Operation Kid Comfort Operation Kid Comfort is de-signed for children whose parent(s) are deployed or will be deploying. Children under the age of six are given a quilt, and children ages seven and above receive a pillow. Armed Services YMCA volunteers and staff receive photos from the re-cipient's family, which are then assembled into a quilt or pillow. The program is of not cost to recipient families. Interested families should contact the Pearl Harbor ASYMCA Branch at 473-3398 or email at [email protected] Dance Classes at Wheeler ASYMCA: “Simply Ballroom” taught by Chris Casely will offer classes for adults every Saturday 10am to 11am. The classes cover the basic technique and patterns in the

American style of ballroom dance and are $10 per class, per person and participants are not required to have a partner. Pre-registration is required and payment is due upon registration.
