When we take a look at a group of people
we generally
except we all look different physically, though mentally
we sometimes make the assumption we are all the
same, why?
This is probably because we cant visibly see the thought
process of the mind, just as we are different physically
we are different mentally, this is important because by
understanding this we become aware that in order to
get the best out of people, we need to understand
them.

NLP Exercise
Perceptual Positions
•First Position: This is your own Perceptual Position as you, yourself, and your role within your
institution you work for.
In NLP, we would call this a fully associated position.
That is, you are fully in
it and living it as if it is happening right now
•Second Position: This is the Perceptual Position of an 'other'.
It's the walking, seeing, hearing,
feeling, thinking, etc, in another persons shoes
•For example, your colleagues, your internal and external customers, your suppliers•Step into their and mind and look at your institution from their
point of view
•Third Position: Think of someone who you admire or respect, who is looking at your institution
from a third position. The third position is in the eyes of an observer involved gathering information
and noticing what is happening between your institution, its customers, its suppliers. Step into their
shoes and mind and notice what is happening
•What have you learnt? How do others view your institution? What have you learnt? How can
you use the information learnt to improve yourself and your institution

Anchoring in Business Anchoring can occur naturally or be set up intentionally
and can assist in
gaining access to past states and linking the past state to the present and
future.
Anchors can be used individually or as a team i.e. a huddleIt can be used to create a resourceful state of mind for a specific situation to achieve a
desired result for example:
• prior to a going in for a meeting
•
delivering a presentation
•
getting into the right state of mind as a team
•
need to be in the right frame of mind in an instant
• the list is exhaustive
The anchor can be used to create different state of mind:• confidence
• motivation
• focus
• relaxation

Installing an Anchor
Identify a situation you might need a particular resource.
i.e
confidence for a meeting
1.
Decide on the state you want to anchor
2.
Choose an anchor (or anchors) that you wish to trigger that state
3.
Recall a memory or imagine a situation where you can experience that
state
4.
When the experience is vivid and you are in the desired state at
the
peak of its intensity, squeeze your thumb and middle finger together;
5.
Release the anchors when the experience begins to fade;
6.
Repeat the steps above several times, each time trying to make the
memory more vivid
7.
Apply the anchor and check that the required state occurs;
