I’d rather put that money to work in the community.”
Our district needs street repairs, better trash clean-up, faster police response, and much more. But City fi nances are a mess. How can we fi nd the money to invest in the community?
Gloria Molina will start by cutting her own salary. But she won’t stop there. Here’s how she’ll cut wasteful spending:
Cut back costly personal staff: Councilman Huizar spends over $1.5 million a year on staff – way more than average. Molina doesn’t need an entourage. She’ll do more with less.
No more scandalous legal costs: Taxpayers have spent over $400,000 defending Councilman’s Huizar’s misconduct: a sexual harassment lawsuit; a reckless driving settlement; an affair conducted at public expense. Enough is enough.
Stop using CLARTS as a personal “slush fund”: Never heard of CLARTS? It’s a fund to offset the impact of a recycling center in our district. Instead, Councilman Huizar took more than $1,000,000 to pay for more (!) staff. Molina will shut down the slush fund; open up the books; and let neighborhoods decide which community improvements to fund.
Start living within our means: Ultimately, the only way to fund better services is to insist on fi scal discipline. Gloria Molina has proven she can do that. Councilman Huizar has proven he can’t. Molina has presided over balanced budgets. He’s presided over defi cits.
