About us
The Global Initiative for Exchange and Development Inc. (GIED) was established in July 07, 2015 with
the primary aim to promote various meaningful collaborations in building local communities and
empowering people to be partners in nation building. New breed but experienced social
development professionals actively involved in different social development efforts in the Philippines
and abroad conceptualized GIED. These social development professionals are armed with the
professional background and passion to offer quality services to more communities in the country.
Together, they pool more than a decade of experience in community development initiatives
focusing on the most vulnerable sectors, children, youth, women, indigenous people, persons with
disabilities among others.
As a non-government and non-profit organization in the Philippines, GIED also seeks to establish its
own relevance as it responds to the Philippines’ important national social policy frameworks and
plans for sustainable human development. It is with this mindset that GIED’s advocacy on
participation, empowerment, and development are emphasized to realize its vision on community
development and global citizenship work.
GIED aims to empower people-to-people connectivity through cross-cultural interaction and
immersion within and across nations, international voluntary service and dynamic cooperation. It
primarily focus its programs and services on social issues like access to education, health services,
environmental sustainability, employment and livelihood opportunities as well as social exclusion. It
also offers to serve the general public, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.

recognized as "an outstanding legal luminary of the province" in a
resolution of Quezon Provincial Legislature in 1981. He was
appointed OIC Mayor of Lucena in 1986 and co-founded the
Pasayahan sa Lucena(then called "Mardi gras sa Lucena"). He
negotiated with the CPP-NPA the release of several military
hostages and was a member of the government peace panel. He

The Library Center is located in a Private village in Lucena City,
Quezon. Nearby are poor residents who are mostly migrants
from all over the country and most of the women are
housewives. Moreover, majority of the adults are elementary
graduates and the average number of members in a household is
around five to eight. As much as children in the area want to get
higher education, elementary and secondary schools are far off
from the sitio. Despite tuition fees to content with, poor families

CONTEXT
BPCFI establishes, maintains, and operates as agency primarily for the
marginalized and less privileged families of Mabolo, Cebu City. For the
past several years, members and families of BPCFI have grown in
numbers. Some migrated to different places in Cebu, while the houses of
some of the families were demolished and thus they were forced to
transfer to other places. In spite of these obstacles, the relationship
between these families and BPCFI stood firm through communication,
especially through home and school visitation.
At the start, BPCFI operated in the sitios and barangays of Cebu City,
specifically Barangay Mabolo. As the years went by, its work spread to
different municipalities of Cebu and the different islands of the Visayas
region. However, the bulk of its beneficiaries still come from Mabolo.
The beneficiaries of BPCFI are mainly children and youth from age 3 to
24 belonging to underprivileged and under-served communities and
families. These children and youth are part of the BPCFI Educational
Programs, and about 85 percent are given support through the Support
at a Distance Program (SAAD).
In recent years BPCFI expanded its services to cater to a wider range of clientele that covers not only those children and youth who are part of the SAAD Program. BPCFI, through its services, reached out to the parents of the children and youth and their communities, providing some health services and skills training services.

ORGANIZATION/ COMMUNITY
