About us
The Global Initiative for Exchange and Development Inc. (GIED) is a non-profit and non-
government organization established last July 07, 2015 in Cebu City, Philippines. The
organization aims to promote people empowerment and connectivity through the spirit of
volunteerism and building communities for sustainable development.
Also the organization wants to enhance the inter-cultural interactions of people around the
world through exchange and development focusing on a three-point agenda to wit: (1)
Global Citizenship and Voluntary Service Exchange; (2) Global Education, Service
Training and Capability Building; and (3) Global Social Development Initiatives with
Partner Communities.
Under each agenda are specific programs, activities and projects that focuses on social issues
like education, health and gender sensitivity, children, youth and women participation in
society, peace and rights-based issues, IEC for DRR inclusive for persons with disabilities,
training and capability building related to the environment, language barrier and other
impact social development projects and activities in marginalized communities.
GIED is a full member of the Network for Voluntary Development in Asia (NVDA), an official
partners of International Cultural Youth Exchange Federation (ICYE) and organization of the
Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations (ALLIANCE). It is also registered with the
Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) as a Volunteer Service
Organization, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as a Social Welfare
Organization and the National Youth Commission (NYC) as a Youth Serving Organization of
the Philippine Government.

forever teeming with bright, benevolent and beautiful projects for our
Filipino children. And how she worked hard for the fulfillment of these
plans up to her last stay in this world. Inspired by her unwavering
commitment to labor with love for the children of today and tomorrow,
the foundation joins Betty in making her bright, benevolent and beautiful
dreams, a reality. Two decades ago, this women of commitment was
honored with the creation of the Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation, barely
three months following her passing in June 1982. Bearing her full name,
foundation aimed to continue her work, reflecting her compassion and

Barili is a 2nd municipal income class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 73,862.[3] In the 2016 electoral roll, it had 42,831 registered voters.[4]
Patupat Elementary School is located in Brgy. Patupat which is one of the barangay of Barili and it is located 67 kilometers south from Cebu City. It is accessible to all kinds of land transportation. It has a tropical climate and seldom visited by typhoons. The barangay is one of the few barangays in Barili awarded for having constituents.

ORGANIZATION/COMMUNITY CONTEXT
Philippine Accessible Disability Services, Inc. (PADS) is an independent non-government organization, working to enable the PWD community to grow and develop as independent integrated, fully human and empowered citizens in society. PADS works closely with various partners and stakeholders on programs that aim to promote deaf human rights and volunteering for the deaf community, increase participation of the Deaf in electoral processes and enhance skills access and opportunities of the Filipino Sign Language (FSL). It is part of

the “Break the Silence” (BTS) Network in the Philippines, a campaign strategy started by the Stairway Foundation Inc. to advocate for child sexual abuse prevention. PADS plays a vital role in the BTS network as it brings in a unique, much-needed expertise and program experience on working with deaf children and adults.
The PADS Office and its partner areas are conveniently located near town/city centres. Public transportations are also readily available to visit department stores/malls, hospitals, schools, historical and cultural landmarks and other leisure areas.

Saceda Youth Lead is a recognized NGO on youth empowerment and development by the Department of Education, and Commission on Higher Education. It has empowered more than 200,000 youths and teachers in all its programs and activities in the Philippines and the ASEAN region. SYL believes that through our youth and our teachers we will see the future of our country and through their good deeds we will prosper as one nation. It believes that education is the backbone of our economy and it needs greater partnership and collaboration with other institutions to empower the Youth to become better citizens by providing them opportunities in leadership, community service and social action. It believes in the ripples of modest beginnings that societal transformation must start from within and that involves training and awakening of the self; given the chance and guidance, one can become an agent of change for God and country.

The Global Initiative for Exchange and Development Inc. (GIED)
was established in July 07, 2015 with the primary aim to
promote various meaningful collaborations in building local
communities and empowering people to be partners in nation

GIED is located at the heart of Cebu City. From the Centre you
can conveniently walk to many important landmarks, historical
and cultural sites of Cebu. It is also very close to shopping

Barangay Gilutongan Island, Cordova, Cebu has approximately 1,500 people who
live in the island. It is 30 minutes by boat from the main land. Some of the
residence did not experience to travel and see the city life.
Fishing is the main source of their income. Most of the residence doesn’t have
alternative way of living. Waste management is one of their common issues.
They don’t have the enough capacity for their health and education. This island
needs a lot of help from the volunteers and to enhance and maintain the beauty
of the island.

conducive for learning. Basically the workcamp will focus on assisting
for the school renovation and beautification in order to compete with
national standards for the public schools. Furthermore this workcamp
aims to help the students gain international cultural learning through

ORGANIZATION/ COMMUNITY
CONTEXT
BPCFI establishes, maintains, and operates as agency primarily for the
marginalized and less privileged families of Mabolo, Cebu City. For the
past several years, members and families of BPCFI have grown in
numbers. Some migrated to different places in Cebu, while the houses
of some of the families were demolished and thus they were forced to
transfer to other places. In spite of these obstacles, the relationship
between these families and BPCFI stood firm through communication,
especially through home and school visitation.
At the start, BPCFI operated in the sitios and barangays of Cebu City,
specifically Barangay Mabolo. As the years went by, its work spread to
different municipalities of Cebu and the different islands of the
Visayas region. However, the bulk of its beneficiaries still come from
Mabolo.
The beneficiaries of BPCFI are mainly children and youth from age 3 to
24 belonging to underprivileged and under-served communities and
families. These children and youth are part of the BPCFI Educational
Programs, and about 85 percent are given support through the

In recent years BPCFI expanded its services to cater to a wider range of clientele that covers not only those children and youth who are part of the SAAD Program. BPCFI, through its services, reached out to the parents of the children and youth and their communities, providing some health services and skills training services.

The Province of Nueva Ecija is comprised of 5 Cities, 27 Municipalities and 849 Barangays. It has a population of 2.15 Million that is projected to reach 2.35 Million in 2017. As an afterthought, the population of male outnumbered female by gender ratio of 1:2 in accordance of number of males for every 100 females. People are devoted to farming, the main source of livelihood of its constituents. Situated in the heart of Nueva Ecija Province in the Philippines is Kasapi sa Pag-Abot ng Pangarap (Partner in Achieving Aspirations/Dreams) LFCI-KPPI, an institution dedicated to promote entrepreneurship and work while caring for the people’s health, education, and the environment. This institution has 9,341 members in which 95% are women. Most of the members main sources of livelihood or income are farming, tricycle (motorized wagons) driving and Sari-Sari (small household) stores. HERDS Inc. is a livelihood project which empowers the women of Nueva Ecija through product making starting with rags. It will also assist unemployed but deserving community members who are willing to undergo training and break-free from cycle of poverty.

The First High School for Hearing Impaired (FHSHI) is a high school in Cebu City to serve persons with hearing disabilities since 1982. It is in fact that in so far there are limited colleges, or even government schools that offer relevant educational opportunities to persons with disabilities as hearing impaired, visually impaired those with learning disabilities, the physically handicapped. The school commits itself in promoting education of the children with special needs through relevant lifelong learning skills in order to give them equal opportunities with other students in regular schools. The school has been engaging in bringing the classroom back to life of the children with special needs. All teachers engaged in Active Learning Process employing the cooperative learning procedure, all in sign languages. Computers are connected to the web / internet brings the students interest back in the classroom. We have been aiming to win the learners back to school as place of fun, friendly and fostering atmosphere for learners to be functionally literate.

The Municipality of Alegria, a 4th class town, is one of the local
government units (47 municipalities and five cities of the Province of

of the province.
It only takes three (3) hours to reach the Municipality on a non-stop
drive from Cebu City passing the Cebu City-Carcar City, Barili-Alegria
route and four and a half hours passing the Cebu City- Santander-
Samboan- Alegria route.
This Demo farm is design the integrated of vegetable, livestock and
poultry production enterprise development project is a perfect
combination to improve and increase the profitability of countryside
entrepreneurship, simultaneously reducing the cost of production. Its
inter-relationship would provide a complementary existence making it
possible to attain an optimum productivity at low cost.
This project is to be implemented in the Municipality of Alegria which
is one of the major sources of vegetables and livestock of Metro Cebu
and its adjacent provinces. The suitability of agricultural crops with the
basic skills of the farming communities is ideal due to the bio-physical
and climatic condition of the area and further sustained by the
existence of vegetable traders and strong people’s organization.

Philippine Accessible Disability Services, Inc. (PADS) is an independent non-government organization, working to enable the PWD community to grow and develop as independent integrated, fully human and empowered citizens in society. PADS works closely with various partners and stakeholders on programs that aim to promote deaf human rights and volunteering for the deaf community, increase participation of the Deaf in electoral processes and enhance skills access and opportunities of the Filipino Sign Language (FSL). It is part of the “Break the Silence” (BTS) Network in the Philippines, a campaign strategy started by the Stairway Foundation Inc. to

advocate for child sexual abuse prevention. PADS plays a vital role in the BTS network as it brings in a unique, much-needed expertise and program experience on working with deaf children and adults.

CONTEXT
The Municipality of Alegria, a 4th class town, is one of the local
government units (47 municipalities and five cities of the Province of

Cebu, and one of the 15 municipalities in the 2nd Congressional district
of the province.
It only takes three (3) hours to reach the Municipality on a non-stop
drive from Cebu City passing the Cebu City-Carcar City, Barili-Alegria
route and four and a half hours passing the Cebu City- Santander-
Samboan- Alegria route.
This Demo farm is design the integrated of vegetable, livestock and
poultry production enterprise development project is a perfect
combination to improve and increase the profitability of countryside
entrepreneurship, simultaneously reducing the cost of production. Its
inter-relationship would provide a complementary existence making it
possible to attain an optimum productivity at low cost.
This project is to be implemented in the Municipality of Alegria which
is one of the major sources of vegetables and livestock of Metro Cebu
and its adjacent provinces. The suitability of agricultural crops with the
basic skills of the farming communities is ideal due to the bio-physical
and climatic condition of the area and further sustained by the
existence of vegetable traders and strong people’s organization.

ORGANIZATION/ COMMUNITY
CONTEXT
BPCFI establishes, maintains, and operates as agency primarily for the
marginalized and less privileged families of Mabolo, Cebu City. For the
past several years, members and families of BPCFI have grown in
numbers. Some migrated to different places in Cebu, while the houses
of some of the families were demolished and thus they were forced to
transfer to other places. In spite of these obstacles, the relationship
between these families and BPCFI stood firm through communication,
especially through home and school visitation.
At the start, BPCFI operated in the sitios and barangays of Cebu City,
specifically Barangay Mabolo. As the years went by, its work spread to
different municipalities of Cebu and the different islands of the
Visayas region. However, the bulk of its beneficiaries still come from
Mabolo.
The beneficiaries of BPCFI are mainly children and youth from age 3 to
24 belonging to underprivileged and under-served communities and
families. These children and youth are part of the BPCFI Educational
Programs, and about 85 percent are given support through the

In recent years BPCFI expanded its services to cater to a wider range of clientele that covers not only those children and youth who are part of the SAAD Program. BPCFI, through its services, reached out to the parents of the children and youth and their communities, providing some health services and skills training services.

ORGANIZATION/COMMUNITY CONTEXT
The Province of Nueva Ecija is comprised of 5 Cities, 27 Municipalities and 849 Barangays. It has a population of 2.15 Million that is projected to reach 2.35 Million in 2017. As an afterthought, the population of male outnumbered female by gender ratio of 1:2 in accordance of number of males for every 100 females. People are devoted to farming, the main source of livelihood of its constituents. Situated in the heart of Nueva Ecija Province in the Philippines is Kasapi sa Pag-Abot ng Pangarap (Partner in Achieving Aspirations/Dreams) LFCI-KPPI, an institution dedicated to promote entrepreneurship and work while caring for the people’s health, education, and the environment. This institution has 9,341 members in which 95% are women. Most of the members main sources of livelihood or income are farming, tricycle (motorized wagons) driving and Sari-Sari (small household) stores. HERDS Inc. is a livelihood project which empowers the women of Nueva Ecija through product making starting with rags. It will also assist unemployed but deserving community members who are willing to undergo training and break-free from cycle of poverty.

AIMS OF THE PROJECT
The CTU-Argao Campus through its Extension Service department has been actively involved on the industry of Hablon production specifically on research, product development, community organizing and livelihood initiative. The Hablon industry in Argao, Cebu has been intricately woven in history, making it a part of its people’s culture and identity. That’s why the school is making an aggressive move in building collaboration with like-minded institutions to help revive the interest of the local people in the production of the fabric, create a market demand to provide financial stability and most of all retain the traditional and cultural identity of its local people.

To appreciate, learn and replicate knowledge, attitude and skills

Share new ideas and innovations to further develop the Hablon Project.

ORGANIZATION/COMMUNITY CONTEXT
Cebu Technological University (CTU) is a government run educational institution located in Cebu, Philippines. CTU is home to over 40,000 Filipino Students from mostly low income families across the province of Cebu. It has one main campus in Cebu city, eight satellite campuses in the Municipalities of Argao, Barili, Carmen, Daanbantayan, Danao, Moalboal, San Francisco and Tuburan and Twelve extension campuses in Bantayan Island, San Remigio, Tabogon, Pinamungahan, Bitoon-barili, Bonbon Cebu City, San Fernando, Naga, Dumanhug, Malabuyoc, Samboan and Oslob. The Municipality of Argao is located in the southeast of the province of Cebu. It is known for its scenic natural white sandy beaches, nature parks and preserved heritage sites. Also considered a primary center of commerce and culture in the south.
VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS

VOLUNTEER’S TASKS
Appreciate and understand the culture and traditions of Hablon industry and local life
Get familiar with the production and marketing of the local fabric industry and other related cottage industry
Willing to learn weaving
Share/suggest ideas and innovations for further product development of local cottage industry
Co-facilitate and organize capacity building training to the local youth about local cottage industry, intercultural learning and other product related development
Review and give feedback for product or program development
Meet and interact with local community like students and staff of CTU-Argao, local government and other local communities.
Assist in the promotion and marketing

CONTEXT
San Remigio is haven for those who seek serenity and calm.Located 109 kilometers away from the Cebu Provincial Capitol building, it is on Cebu island’s northern tip, turning left at the crossroads in Bogo City. San Remigio is a third class municipality with a little over 51,000 residents based on the 2010 national census and some 35,000 registered voters.Municipality of San Remegio aims to improve the quality of life of the residence through healthy lifestyle and other programs and to give opportunity to the residence to learn new culture and interact with foreign nationals.

VOLUNTEER’S TASKS Assist in taking patients’ vital signs
Conduct history taking of complaint
Assist Emergency services
Assist in dressing of wounds
Assist in ECG taking , blood sugar and & pregnancy test
Assist in delivery in birthing center
Participate in public medical mission.
Assist the volunteers in the preparation of food for the “Kusina sa Kahimsug ug Pag-amoma” Conduct trainings and join the monthly meetings of the barangay nutrition scholars
Assist the different activities of the BNS
Assist on the reports of the municipal nutrition action coordinator (MNAC)

TYPE: EDU/DISA VOLS: 1-2 PERIOD: August & February ADDRESS: Macopa St., Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City
AIMS OF THE PROJECT
Apply appropriate speech/ language practices that maximize the residual hearing of the students
Increase the students’ vocabulary and comprehension skills to enhance learning capabilities
Help promote learning opportunities through cultural exchange programs and activities.
PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES
Compile all the conducted activities especially in the speech/ language sessions and classes.
Train at least 1 to 2 Special Education Teachers to continue its program implementation in speech/ language
Organize intercultural activities for the teacher and student.
COMMUNITY CONTEXT
The First High School for Hearing Impaired (FHSHI) ia a high school in Cebu City to serve persons with hearing impaired disabilities since 1982. It is in fact that in so far there are limited colleges, or even government schools that offer relevant educational opportunities to persons with disabilities as hearing impaired, visually impaired those with learning disabilities, the physically handicapped. The school commits itself in promoting education of the children with special needs through relevant lifelong learning skills in order to give them equal opportunities with other students in regular schools. The school has been engaging in bringing the classroom back to life of the children with special needs. All teachers engaged in Active Learning Process employing the cooperative learning procedure, all in sign languages. Computers are connected to the web / internet brings the students interest back in the classroom. We have been aiming to win the learners back to school as place of fun, friendly and fostering atmosphere for learners to be functionally literate.

Develop/prepare learning materials and visual aids;
Assist the teachers in daily classes.
Facilitate sports activities/ events for the students and PWD
Assist the staff/ trainers/facilitators in volunteer preparation activities
Assist the staff in the daily office work like development of promotional materials like print, audio and video presentations
Assist other relevant activities of the organization
