Teacher’s Day – Primary 1 & 2
Teacher’s Day was observed with a brief yet peppy talk by the children of Grade 2 on Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan and the important role that the teachers play in our lives.
Gandhi Jayanti
The 145th birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was observed on October 2 with performances by the children of Grade 1.
They gave a short yet meaningful talk on the simple life that Mahatma Gandhi adopted. They told how Mohandas, the fashionably dressed lawyer, slowly transformed into the simple loin clad Mahatma who vowed to wear the same clothes as the poor Indians who came to listen to him.
This was followed by a sweet rendition of the bhajan, ‘Hey Ram’.
The little ones in the Kindergarten were also not left out in the celebrations. The KG 1 Hindi Children sang Bhapu Bhole Bale, the KG 2 Hindi children recited Gandhiji ke Bandhar Teen poem whilst the KG 2 Tamil Language children recited a Tamil rhyme. We had our very own “Little Gandhiji‘ to grace the occasion.
Thus the assembly helped to give a deep insight into the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi and encouraged us to think about the sacrifice of our freedom fighters, analyze the importance and understand the value of freedom.
Concurrently, Gandhi Jayanti was also celebrated at Global Indian International School Secondary Campus, Kuala Lumpur on October 2nd 2014 with patriotic fervour and zeal. On the occasion, Bhajans and Skits were presented by our students of Std 3 -‐10. Ms Vrushali expressed her views on Gandhiji’s philosophy. She advised the students to follow the principle of non-‐violence, peace, harmony and universal brotherhood.
ICC in collaboration with GIIS showcased a plethora of presentations, which enhanced the Gandhian aura. The Kathak dance by Mr Nitin Shirale enticed the students while Master Sagnik Mondal left the audience spell -‐bound with his flute recital. Ms Mahitha Varma sang bhajans in her extremely melodious voice. GIIS teacher, Ms Harmeet threw light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of Gandhiji, bringing out the relevance of Gandhian principles in today’s times.
The occasion came to a close with floral tributes to the Father of the Nation by
Mr Lakshmaji Rao, Director of the ICC, KL in the presence of Mr Manoj Nair, Country Director, Mr Manish Jain, Director Operations and Dr. NKP Ashok Raj, Vice-‐Principal.

Diwali Assembly – Grades 3 to 7 Diwali also known as Deepavali and the "festival of lights", is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in autumn every year. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, the students of GIIS, KL assembled on October 21. The school looked lit up with bright colors as children were dressed in ethnic costumes. The ambience was absolutely joyful. The assembly began with a divine rendition of a prayer song by a student of Grade 3. Poetry Workshop – GIIS & Bluebricks
On October 18, a workshop was held for students from Classes 7 to 11. The Poetry Slam Workshop began at 9.05 a.m. and ended at 12.15 p.m. This workshop was organized by the English Faculty as an initiative to encourage more students to participate in the current trend of poetry presentation where students voice out opinions on important issues happening in the world.
The trainer, Ms. Elaine Foster, introduced the students to poetry writing through various activities that allowed students to write and present their poems in a confident manner. The students enjoyed participating in activities like: ‘Circle of Truth’, ‘Angels & Devils’ and ‘A List of Things that Bug Me!’. In the first activity, students had to share their opinions about various everyday occurrences and issues. They freely participated in this activity that encouraged them to be more open about their views. In the second activity, the students worked together to present their feedback by using figurative language and appropriate gestures. Finally, the students presented their poems in groups of ‘fours’. The students learned how to use rhythm, voice modulation, body language to create an impactful stage presence while reciting their insightful poems.
Ms. Elaine Foster was impressed with the team work effort shown by the students while participating enthusiastically and self-‐assuredly in the workshop.
“Excellent workshop as it helped the students to look deep within themselves and voice out truthfully with regards to their personal views on various matters – gives credence to truth! A good variety of activities to stimulate the thinking capacity of students and encourage team work amongst the individuals. The students managed to collaborate easily and impressed the trainer, Ms. Elaine Foster.” -‐ Ms. R. Vijayalakshmi. Speech & Drama teacher.

Career guidance-‐What after 10th or 12th
On October 11, a career guidance session was held between 9.15 a.m. and 12.00 noon in the auditorium of the secondary campus.
This career guidance session conducted by the Student Counsellor, Ms. Vijayalakshmi Ranganathan, was aimed to explore the interests and abilities of students, formulate long-‐term goals based on their skills and devise strategies to achieve them.
This programme was to create a platform to discuss student’s interest, values and aptitude with a large comparison group and career possibilities that they could both likely to enjoy and be successful at.
The session was bifurcated into three stages:
Stage 1: Introduction on career awareness-‐Ways to choose a career
Stage 2: Based on the awareness administer a questionnaire – Know your potential.
Stage 3: Feedback session.
The questionnaire “Know your potential” was based on this theory of multiple intelligences and students were guided according to their performances. According to this theory, we are all able to know the world through language, logical-‐mathematical analysis, spatial representation, musical thinking, the use of the body to solve problems or to make things, an understanding of other individuals, and an understanding

of ourselves. Where individuals differ is in the strength of these intelligences -‐ the so-‐called profile of intelligences -‐and in the ways in which such intelligences are invoked and combined to carry out different tasks, solve diverse problems, and progress in various domains.
Feedback helps learners to maximise their potential, raise their awareness on strengths and areas of improvement, and motivate them for better performance. In the last session, students were guided with various career options available for them after their high school. A brief chart on various professions was presented to them.
Overall, the session was successful at taping the potential abilities of students and enhances their knowledge on various career choices available for them.
School Events
Academic Initiatives
In order to enhance activity-‐based learning recommended by CBSE-‐i, new activities and methods were adopted.
Science: Science outdoor activity has been made part of each theme. For the theme ‘Air and Water’, the children of Grade-‐II were taken on a tour around the school and made to identify and list things – natural and artificial – that move with the help of air.
English: Peer learning was taken further with an activity on Dictionary for the children of Grade 2. The individuals in the teams had to find and write out the meanings of words given to them. Then the team had to list all the words in alphabetical order and make their chart. Now all the members of the team had to learn all the words and the spellings! Mentoring and learning took place in a natural manner, boosting up the confidence of the children with the dictionary.
The children of Grade 1 were able to learn ninety pairs of opposites with ease as they were excited about the domino game that they were to play with opposites. It was fun as they checked if they had the opposite for the word being called and, later, calling out the next word.

Crazy Freaky Laws of the World
Every country has its own share,
Of crazy freaky rules.
Before you travel anywhere,
Get informed and stay cool.
Let’s start with Singapore,
Where chewing gum in public.
Creates a sticky situation,
Perhaps a fine, or even more.
In Japan, or so I hear,
Sumo wrestlers need not fear.
The 33 inch waist decree,
Is not enforced on their bodies.
If you’re visiting Alabama,
You must remember,
Stray confetti or any such,
Can make you a prison member

If you plan to visit London,
Do not die in the House of Parliament.
Although your buddies may have fun,
At your state funeral internment.
Never wear high heeled shoes,
While visiting fragile Greek monuments.
As it will result in an arrest,
And a long term confinement.
And can you believe this,
If your fiancé dies, do not despair.
Because in France it’s okay,
To still get married anyway.
In New Jersey, this rule’s the best,
It’s against the law.
To wear a bullet proof vest,
While breaking the law.
While eating your lunch,
Be on your guard.
Don’t let the pigeons have even one munch,
As in Venice it’s illegal to feed those birds.

Obey the laws

I am the ugly step sister,
Go ahead, laugh, you don’t know how it feels
To have all your dreams crushed
Because you couldn’t fit into some heels
I went for a dance
All dressed in formals
I spent two hundred dollars
On a dress the prince didn’t even notice
But Cinderella, oh Cinderella got all the attention
Thanks to her fairy godmother and her pumpkin

Why do you think we kept her locked up and got her to clean my room?
She’s mad; the prince doesn’t know what he’s got himself into
Stop talking about yourself! Talk about me
I am the evil queen
I was the most beautiful in the land, the second most beautiful in the land
Thanks to snow white that’s where I stand
I ruled my kingdom, just and fine
Everything in this world was going to be mine
There was no problem that I could not tackle
And that little brat couldn’t choke on an apple
In a way I was trying to protect her

So here I am

They can't infect you, but just one thing, If they drink your blood, you will turn to one of them. They are vampires, blood drinkers, not going to change.
Mysterious and sneaky, Not scared of anything, Except for sheer brightness. They can't help it, They've got blood dripping from their teeth. Charming to some, Unbearable to the others. Dark circle surrounding their iris. They can understand your thoughts, But themselves, are very hard to understand. They are vampires, blood drinkers, not going to change.
Their secret, if you can keep, Congrats my friend, you can live! But if their hunger gets better of them, You'll be left bloodless, and dead. They have many names. Allessandro, the defender of mankind, Amorgio, immortal. Dario, who possesses a lot, And Domencio, belongs to the Lord. They are vampires, blood drinkers, not going to change.
We have bad ones, for sure, But we too have good ones, I can assure. Like Clemete, gentle and merciful, And Baldovino, the brave friend. You are not them, you can't judge, You can't understand them and come to an agreement. You don't how hard it is, Try being thirsty for weeks and weeks. You can eat meat by killing animals, But they can't suck blood, of you, the social animals? What justice is that? We cannot understand. They are vampires, blood drinkers, not going to change.
