4 Verifying Global Equity Analytics

4.1 VERIFYING INSTALLATION

If the Finish Panel appears (see previous page) and a Start Menu shortcut is created (see Section 2.6) then Global Equity Analytics is successfully installed. Otherwise, please contact your Merrill Lynch Sales Representative for assistance with the installation.

8 Common Installation Problems and Simple Solutions If the common remedies below do not solve the encountered problem, please see section 6 of this document for instructions on how to contact Merrill Lynch for support.

8.1 NEED TO REMOVE MDAC FROM THE INSTALLSHIELD PACKAGE FOR REPACKAGING PURPOSES?

Solution: 1. On the Setup Type screen, choose the Custom option. For the MDAC 2.7 feature, select “This

feature will not be available”. Click Next and continue the installation. Please note that GEA may not function properly without MDAC 2.5 or later.

8.2 PROBLEMS LOGGING INTO MLX (HTTP://WWW.MLX.ML.COM )?

Solution: 1. An MLX username and password are required. If these are not available contact your Merrill Lynch

Sales Representative to get setup. (see Section 7 above). 2. The MLX username needs to be permissioned for both MLXPAL and the PALPTA download

applications. 3. If problems persist, contact MLX Client Services by clicking on the link ‘Contact Us’ at the top of the

screen and following the instructions. 4. The link to the ‘Contact Us’ page is http://www.mlx.ml.com/public/bin/ContactUs_JQPublic.asp.

8.3 STARTING GLOBAL EQUITY ANALYTICS IN ONLINE MODE GENERATES A “CONNECTION NOT VERIFIED” MESSAGE

Solution:

1. Check for installation of Bloomberg API. Use the Bloomberg Terminal command UPGR to do this. If the API is not installed or is an old version, contact a Bloomberg representative to get the most up to date version.

2. If the problem persists the Bloomberg API dll’s may require re-registering using regsvr32. The dll’s in question are blpdatax.dll and bbfieldtable.dll and they should reside in the ‘\blp\api\activex’ directory.

3. Reinstalling the Bloomberg API will also re-register the API dll’s. 4. If a connection still cannot be verified, try closing the application and stopping the Bloomberg engine

(\blp\api\bbstop.exe). Restarting GEA will restart the engine.

8.4 GLOBAL EQUITY ANALYTICS DOES NOT RECEIVE DATA FROM BLOOMBERG

Solution: 1. There may be a problem with the Bloomberg API. Check the installed version of the API (see above,

section 7.4) and upgrade if necessary. 2. If data is still not being received into Global Equity Analytics check for general availability of

Bloomberg data via the Bloomberg API. This can be done by using the APIDemo tool (in the Bloomberg folder on the Start Menu) or using the Excel addin. If there is a general problem this must be resolved first.

8.5 THE “OPEN WITH” OR “FILE DOWNLOAD” DIALOG APPEARS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO LAUNCH THE MERRILL LYNCH MARKET IMPACT MODEL DOCUMENT

Solution:

1. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4 (or above) and try again.

Page 19: Global Equity Analytics Technical Reference

Merrill Lynch Global Equity Analytics

Installation and Technical Reference Page 19 of 19

8.6 INSTALLING WINDOWS SCRIPTING HOST 5.6.

Solution: 1. For Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 98, download scr56en.exe from Microsoft by clicking here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/c/9/4c9e63f1-617f-4c6d-8faf-c2868f670c1c/scr56en.exe

8.7 CANNOT CONNECT TO A TEXT FILE DATABASE THROUGH CONNECTION MANAGER Solution:

1. The Microsoft Text Driver is required to use a text file database in GEA, and is a component of the Microsoft Jet Driver package. If the text driver is missing or not installed on your PC, then Jet can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft website at http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/downloads/updates/default.aspx#jet. Please contact your technical support center to determine which version of Microsoft Jet is appropriate for your system.
