What this presentation covers

A short case study of a football stadium to complement the article on the

Emirates Stadium in GEOGRAPHY REVIEW Vol. 27, No. 2.

A different example of a sports-led development, this time on a greenfield site.

An examination of how one development can ‘feed’ another — the Keepmoat

stadium lies alongside a retail development — Lakeside Village, Doncaster.

The two developments have led to transport improvements — a new link road now

gives direct access to the M18 motorway, Junction 3.

Location of the stadium

The stadium is next to Doncaster Lakeside, a 1990s leisure and business

development 3 km to the southeast of Doncaster town centre.

It is a key design element of the development is a 20-ha man-made lake on the

site of a former airfield and refuse dump. The lake was completed in 2002.

The lake not only provides an amenity but was also used as a resource to provide

fill material to bring marshy land to the south above flood level.

A major retail development, Doncaster Lakeside Village, has been built nearby.
