► Sustainable housing is not keeping up with increasing demographics, for the first time over 65’s tip 10 million, Lifetime Homes 2008 failed.

► Ageing well, in your own home, high on political agendas- More control & Dignity, Community spirit- Demos commissioned to research June to Aug 14
► £Trillion of grey equity, but little incentive to downsize- Scarcity of suitable housing
► Inspire the younger old “Empty Nesters” to downsize - Better choice and NOT just bungalows!
- Community spirit, NOT segregation
► Right location, Right offer – We all WIN!

Housing Solutions
Where we live matters► We all expect to exercise choice and dignity as we age…
► Affordability and choice of retirement housing is critical NOT just Extra care housing!
► As we age, life can be very cruel and we can face challenges to staying in our own home.
► Public services desperately need to keep people out of hospital and institutional care.
9
Extra Care Housing
► 1990’s Sheltered housing providers reviewed their service offer to older people to prevent movers
► Over the past 20yrs LA’s have seen ECH as a replacement for Residential care preventing early or unnecessary admissions in to care
► Private sector called it Assisted Living
Fundamentally ECH is a CONCEPT - Accessible & Sustainable housing with access to care & support 24/7, benefitting from access to community facilities which promote social interaction, good nutrition, hydration and well being. Every community could/should provide an EC environment!
