If you are using SAP BusinessObjects Lumira for the first time, this guide will help you to understand what SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is and how to use it.

SAP BusinessObjects Lumira lets you gain insights from trusted enterprise data sources and personal data, and share these insights with other users through interactive visualizations, stories, and tailored analysis applications, on desktop browsers and mobile devices.

SAP BusinessObjects Lumira provides connectivity to SAP enterprise data models in SAP BW, SAP HANA and SAP BusinessObjects universes (UNX) as well as to a wide variety of third party databases and file data for data acquisition, cleansing and manipulation. It also provides online connectivity with full support for SAP HANA and SAP BW.

To visualize data and enable interactivity, SAP BusinessObjects Lumira provides powerful UI elements such as charts, crosstabs, geo maps and filter components out of the box, along with a rich set of ready to run analysis applications, templates and samples. Both self-service dashboards and tailored, centrally (IT) managed applications are built from the same libraries of UI elements and same data connections and sources, to provide a uniform and consistent experience for business end users. Rich APIs and SDKs are provided to create

customer-specific visualizations and data connectors, having established a considerable ecosystem of partner extensions.

2.1 SAP BusinessObjects Lumira Discovery

SAP BusinessObjects Lumira Discovery is used by key business users who need flexibility to connect to data (usually multiple data sources), shape that data, and create ad-hoc stories with visualizations from all types of data, which others can leverage, build upon, and share.

Connect to Data

With Lumira Discovery installed, you’re ready to connect to data. There are all sorts of data sources available on the Data source tab. For example, your data might be stored on your computer in a spreadsheet or a text file, or on a server in your enterprise applications.

Manipulate Data

Once you have connected to a data source, you need to adjust the data to meet your needs. Sometimes adjusting means transforming the data – such as cleansing, enriching, enhancing, mashing, and so on. There are many optional configurations that you can make before you begin your analysis. The configurations that you make here create the dataset that Lumira Discovery uses to interpret and interact with your data.

Discover Data Insights

Use visualization to create stories that provide graphical narration to describe data. A story can have a single visualization or pages full of visualizations. The visualizations in a report each represent a nugget of information. And the visualizations aren't static; you can add and remove data, change visualization types, and apply filters and controls to discover insights and look for answers.

Share and Collaborate

With formatting and stories you can make your data discoveries clearer, more persuasive, and beautiful. You can group charts on a story page to create a presentation-style dashboard, for example, and then add images and text annotations. When you have a Lumira Discovery document that’s complete, you can share it with others on SAP BusinessObjects Lumira, server version for BI Platform.

There are several ways to share your work in Lumira Discovery. You can publish to SAP BusinessObjects Lumira, server version for BI Platform, view and interact with documents in SAP BusinessObjects Mobile, and much more.

Samples of Lumira Discovery

Providing sample documents is an indirect method of providing a better explanation of the concept. With Lumira Discovery, you can create a wide range of visualizations and stories that are saved as Lumira documents on the BI platform. Business users access them from the BI launchpad in desktop browsers or on mobile devices.

2.2 SAP BusinessObjects Lumira Designer

SAP BusinessObjects Lumira Designer is the rich client for professional analysis application designers (typically working in IT departments) to create corporate analysis applications and reports.

Lumira Designer provides the same UI elements (components) as Lumira Discovery and more. For the extensive list of UI components offered, Lumira Designer provides a set of specific events that the application user can execute on each component. Using the script editor, you can specify which actions should take place when the application user triggers the event. The script API provides access at runtime to the application itself, as well as to its components and data sources.

UI components also offer various properties to configure the look and feel, and behavior of the UI elements. At application runtime, you can enable modification of properties by executing event scripts, as almost all component properties are accessible through the script API.

By using these event scripts, properties, and corporate CSS style sheets, the application designer has control of the look and feel of the application. You can also control how the user interacts with the application.

With composites, Lumira Designer enables the creation of shared UI elements (such as headers, footers, toolbars), and the breaking down of complex applications into smaller, more manageable parts. This breaking down of complex applications enables the cost-effective management of large corporate BI deployments.

The Component SDK of Lumira Designer lets you enhance the palette of standard components with third-party components.

Furthermore, Lumira Designer offers you a set of standard (blank and predefined) and ready-to-run templates that serve various design and business needs. You can also create user-defined templates and make them available for other application designers.

In addition to applications and dashboards for data analysis, you can also create desktop browser applications for planning business data. These planning applications support both manual and automated data entry, and changes to data.

Extended Discovery Stories in Lumira Designer

In Lumira Designer, you can open and enhance a Lumira Discovery storyboard with blended data, in order to professionalize it into an enterprise dashboard. Business users who create their necessary insights can thus have these promoted towards an enterprise dashboard easily and quickly.

Samples of Analysis Applications and Dashboards

With Lumira Designer it is possible to create a wide range of different analysis applications, planning applications and dashboards that are saved as Lumira documents on the BI platform. Business users access them from the BI launchpad in desktop browsers or on mobile devices.

2.3 SAP BusinessObjects Lumira, server version for BI Platform

SAP BusinessObjects Lumira, server version for BI Platform leverages the BI platform to enable secure access to Discovery stories and Designer applications in Business Departments and SAP Enterprise BI Landscapes, on desktop, browsers, and mobile devices.

SAP BusinessObjects Lumira, server version for BI Platform is installed on the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform and hosts the execution runtime of Lumira documents that are created from Lumira Discovery and Lumira Designer.

Administrators manage and secure Lumira documents with standard tools and mechanisms of the BI platform.

Business users can view Lumira documents from the BI Launchpad in desktop browsers or on mobile devices through SAP BusinessObjects Mobile. They can interact with data (filtering, sorting, ranking, for example), adapt visualizations, create and share personal views (bookmarks), export data and print Lumira documents.

2.4 SAP BusinessObjects Mobile

With SAP BusinessObjects Mobile, stay connected to your business data anytime and anywhere, as you can now view SAP BusinessObjects Lumira documents on your iPad. Access the data that you want to see by using filters and input controls at the page level and within visualizations too.

Network connection is no longer a concern: you can perform data operations like filter, drill, hierarchy navigation, and so on offline, after downloading SAP Lumira documents. You can annotate and collaborate your

reports too. Use simple gestures like swipe and tap to focus on a specific set of data by excluding or including, sorting and drilling to get deeper insights and make informed decisions on the go.
