What’s going on in the body?

What tools do we have?

Do we have a plan or strategy?

Goals

Goal #1: Lead a normal healthy life

Goal #2: have fun!

Medical Goals: Vary depending on provider, and age of the child.

Inside the body…

Imagine a water tower. People are constantly using water, and its constantly filling itself up. Now… try keeping it between 25% and 50% full all the time.

Sugar is constantly being ingested, made, stored, moved around , and burned.

What does insulin do? (time to draw)

Tools (there are more than you think!)

Food (hardest tool to master)

Insulin (takes training, but easy)

Exercise (trial and error)

Diabetes “Stuff” (meters, needles, CGM, Pumps)

#1 tool: YOUR BRAIN!

Cost does not equal quality or better outcomes!

Tools are just tools, they have no skill!

This is a TEAM disease!

The entire family needs to take ownership, this includes teachers

Physicians outline a strategy and give recommendations, but they DO NOT control this disease. The Team does.
