The Challenge
Of more than 11,000 students in Trenton Public School District, 51% have enough lead in their blood to impact developmental and educational outcomes.
Childhood Threat, Long-term Consequences
Lead poisoning causes:
Resulting in: Lower IQ and academic performance
Decreased ability to pay attention Reduced impulse control
Between $17 and $50 could be saved in taxes for each $1 spent on lead safe
repairs.
Other costs of lead poisoning include health care, criminal justice, and
home abandonment.
The Most Dangerous Place: Homes
In NJ, the primary source of lead exposure (up to
80%!) is contaminated dust from lead-based paint in
homes and buildings built before 1978.
