Structures are supported on shallow, site improvement, mat, or deep foundations.

FES provides a complete foundation support service which includes design and construction. Alternatively FES engineers can value engineer an existing design before constructing the foundation to insure that the most economical and efficient solution is implemented.

FES uses helical piers and piles for deep foundation applications. Used to support new structures or foundation systems that have settled, shifted or failed, helical piers and piles can provide both compression and tension-bearing capacity and lateral resistance. They can also be used as anchors to provide long-term sustainable solutions. Helical piers and piles are widely utilized in a variety of sectors including utilities, solar energy and telecommunications.

FES offers complete retaining wall solutions from design to construction.

Modular/Segmental retaining walls are used to retain earth and provide a solid aesthetically pleasing vertical face. They are effective in both large-scale applications and smaller residential projects. The modular block used to build the wall allows flexibility of design, rapid construction and maximum utilization of the land area.

Gravity retaining walls are constructed using natural stone or concrete and depend on their weight and setback to retain the earth. To increase their strength and allow for the construction of higher elevations these natural stone walls can be dry stacked or grouted.

Cantilever and tied-back retaining walls utilize a variety of materials such as concrete, wood, steel, vinyl or a combination of these in order to support vertical cuts and earth. Higher walls may require tie-backs to increase their stability.

RETAINING WALLS

FES engineers design and construct new slopes and offer a variety of solutions to repair or stabilize failing or failed slopes, using helical anchors, tie backs and other engineered products.

Steepened slopes are normally constructed using anchoring systems to allow for the design of long or short-term solutions.

Vertical cuts can be designed by FES using soil or rock anchors and stabilized face areas which utilize wire or fabric and shotcrete. These solutions are particularly suitable for highways and deep excavations in urban areas and for sites where space is limited.

In conjunction with contracting activities, FES offers a wide range of consulting and value engineering services. This complete solution enables FES to provide project continuity and achieve potential value engineering benefits, which can result in cost savings and efficiencies for clients.

DESIGN AND ENGINEERING FES engineers have gained a wealth of experience in geotechnical design and construction over many years enabling them to create new designs and to value engineer existing schemes for foundation support, retaining walls, slopes, vertical cuts and site improvements.

SHOP DRAWINGS FES can produce shop drawings for new and existing designs and submit these to the engineer of record for approval. Once approved they are used by FES project managers to carry out construction services.

PERMITS FES is a licensed contractor in several states with the ability to apply for and secure construction permits prior to beginning construction. Shop drawings are utilized to apply for and secure the required permits.

CERTIFICATION OF CONSTRUCTIONAs part of its total solution, FES provides certifications for all projects designed and constructed by FES. The company can also provide as-built drawings and data records.

CONSULTING

FES engineers and project managers have designed and constructed projects where ground improvements are required because of fills, poor soil conditions and the need to accommodate high loads. Ground improvement techniques include:

• Dynamic Compaction

• Helical Piers and Piles

• Grouted Piers

• Stone Columns

• Geotextile/Geogrid

• Undercut and Replacement
