Why are genres useful for audiences?

Genres are useful for audiences as it means they can recognise the genre without actually paying to view the entire film. It also means that the audiences can identify whether a

specific film is worth watching or not depending on their preferences, genres are also described as a visual shorthand to assist the audiences in

their choices. Also audiences like watching what they're familiar with, and they enjoy knowing what might happen in the film.
