Chosen genre

Crime:Crime films are films which focus on the lives of the criminals. Criminal acts are almost always glorified in these movies. Crime stories in this genre often highlight the life of a crime figure, or they glorify the rise and fall of a particular criminal, gang, bank robber, murderer or lawbreakers in personal power struggles or conflict with law and order figures, an underling or competitive colleague, or a rival gang. Gangster/crime films are usually set in large, crowded cities, to provide a view of the secret world of the criminal: dark nightclubs or streets with lurid neon signs, fast cars, piles of cash, sleazy bars, contraband, seedy living quarters or rooming houses. Exotic locales for crimes often add an element of adventure and wealth.

Why did I choose the crime genre?

Working in a group meant that my partner and I needed to agree on what genre we wanted our film trailer to be based on. We didn’t want to create a romantic movie trailer as we felt that this would appear to be too challenging to portray the message of love across in a 1-2 minute trailer. Our ideas were more suited towards the crime genre as we are great fans of Top Boy. It is a vast enough genre in which great movies have come from it for example; Kidulthood, Attack The Block and Adulthood. We opted more for the ‘hood’ subgenre as we were inspired by the movies listed above.
