THE ADVANTAGES IN BRIEF In recent years, the need for a more efficient splicing system is becoming more apparent as a result of the increasing construction complexities and design requirements.

The advantages of mechanical couplers overlapped joints:

l Congestion of rebars with lapped joints, affecting the integrity of the structure. This can be avoided by using couplers.

l With the decreasing size of concrete sections, floor spaces are maximized thus increase the value of building especially in prime development areas.

l The transfer of load with lapped joints is entirely dependent upon the bonding of the surrounding concrete. Degradation of concrete could affect the performance of the joint.

l With the use of couplers to connect starter bars, damages to the formwork can be avoided.

l Material and cost savings as less steel is used.

l Greener and ‘lighter’ building.

TerminatorAnchorage solution which effectively eliminates hooked barpreparation, placement, and congestion problems.

MPT PRESTRESSING AND POST-TENSIONING SYSTEM is designed and tested to meet stringent standards. The range of buildings and civil engineering applications includes: l Commercial and residential high rise l Retail shopping centers l Load transfer structures l Slabs on grade l Silos and reservoirs l Bridges l Ground anchoring and earth retaining

MPT FLAT SLAB SYSTEMS The MPT flat slab system is normally adopted for bonded tendon. The strands are individually gripped in one triangle flat anchor head unit and transmit their pre-stressing forces by means of flat type anchor plate casting unit. The strands are stressed individually by means of a mono strand jack. The strands are contained in one flat duct (duct size: 20mm x 70mm) which is made of corrugated galvanized metal. To ensure corrosion protection and to give adequate bond strength, the tendons are filled with a suitable cement grout mix after complete stressing of the strands. Facilitating of concrete placing due to the absence of tendons in the webs, and ease of placing tendons.

MPT MULTISTRAND ROUND SYSTEMS A method of reinforcing and pre-stressing concrete, masonry and other structural elements. Today, it is used for a wide range of applications including office buildings, condominiums, hotels, parking structures, slab-on-ground foundations, ground anchors, storage tanks, stadiums, silos, and bridges. The systems are normally adopted for bonded tendons. The tendons consist of a bundle of strands with a nominal diameter of 0.5" (12.7 mm.) or 0.6" (15.2 mm.). The number of strands per tendon can be from 4 strands up to 42 strands of diameter 0.5" or 31 strands of diameter 0.6". The strands in the ten-dons are contained in one round duct which is made of corru-gated galvanized metal. The strands are individually gripped in one anchor head unit and transmit their pre-stressing force by means of an anchor plate casting unit. For each anchor size, special spiral rein-forcement is provided at the anchor plate casting to give ade-quate splitting reinforcement for bustling stresses developed at the anchorage zone. The strands in tendon are stressed simultaneously by means of a multi strand stressing jack from capacity 1,100 KN up to 5,000 KN. The strands can also be stressed individually by means of mono jack.

STRANDS The strands are formed with seven steel wires: one central wire around which the other six are wrapped. They are gener-ally supplied already stabilized (low relaxation) and certified according to the regulations by an independent laboratory, in coils weighing kg 2500-3000. Usually greased or waxed strands, incased in a HDPE sheath, commonly called unbound-ed, are used to manufacture the external tendons. Suchstrands can be hot- dipped galvanized

POST TENSIONING JACKS The jack is placed over the strand and when tensioning starts they are automatically and simultaneously engaged in the pull-ing head of the jack. Once the required elongation and load are reached the lock-off device of the jack can be activated to house the wedges in the anchor head uniformly. The tension-ing can be accomplished in more steps basing the elongation of the cable. A tensioned cable can be released using proper releasing device

GROUTING Cables are normally grouted after sealing their anchorages with the concrete or if required, using the proper grouting caps. Before grouting the tendons, they should be flushed to ensure that no obstruction would impede the flow of the inject-ed grout. The sand less grout, injected using on MPT grouting pumps, is kept under pressure during its curing. The water-to-cement ratio is kept as low as possible. Usually the proportion of ingre-dients are: 36-38 liters of water, 100kg of cement and addic-tive according to the instruction of the manufacturer. The mix produces 72-74 liters of grout.

Rebar and/or mesh steel reinforcement can’t match the coverage of FORTA-FERRO® because this 3 -dimensional fiber is blended into every cubic inch of the concrete.

FORTA-FERRO® has been tested by scores of agencies, labor-atories, and testing facilities in a wide variety of performance areas, such as toughness, impact resistance, flexural strength, and residual strength.

FORTA-FERRO® has also been compared in residual strength (ASTM C-1399) to the major brands of steel fibers, resulting in an average replacement value of 1:10 (FORTA-FERRO®: steel fibers).

*Test reports are available upon request

CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT FIBERS

FORTA-FERRO® Advanced Concrete Reinforcing Fiber

FORTA-FERRO® is an easy -to-finish, color blended fiber, made of 100% virgin copolymer/ polypropylene consisting of a twist-ed bundle non-fibrillating monofilament and a fibrillating net-work fiber, yielding a high-performance concrete reinforce-ment system.

FORTA-FERRO® is a blend of:

1. Standard fibrillated polypropylene fiber to reduce and control shrinkage and temperature cracking.

2. A very heavy-duty twisted-bundle monofilament fiber made of a strong synthetic copolymer, to increase load-transfer and post-crack performance. This pre-blended fiber is typically used in long lengths (2-1/4") and in high dosages (5 to 30 lbs./cubic yard) to affect a higher re-placement level of reinforcing steel than standard syn-thetic fibers. FORTA-FERRO®, which means "Strong As Steel", is also extremely user friendly, having gained a reputation as the best mixing and finishing fiber of its kind in the industry.

Advantage:

l Reduction of plastic and hardened concrete shrinkage cracking

l Improvement to concrete toughness and long-termdurability

l Improves impact and shatter resistance, and enhances fatigue and residual strength

l Considerable cost-savings vs. conventional labor-intensive steel reinforcement

l Non-corrosive, non-magnetic

l Provides 3-dimensional reinforcement coverage vs. one-plane reinforcement

l Can be placed, cast, pumped or shot

l Saves time vs. alternate reinforcing systems
