DISTRICT HEALTH GUIDELINESIt is important that our children follow good healthpractices at all times and be kept at home when they areill. A child should not be in school when he or she is illand is experiencing one or more of the followingsymptoms:

Nausea or vomiting (must remain at home until freeof symptoms for 24 hours). Diarrhea (mustremain at home until free ofsymptoms for 24 hours). Severe headache. Continuous coughing or runny nose. Evidence of a communicable disease such as a rash, swelling or unusual sore throat. A temperature of 100 degrees or higher(mustremainat home until he/she has a normal 98.6 degreetemperature for24 hours without the use of a feverreducer such as Tylenol). Conjunctivitis-pink eye. Undiagnosed rash (rashes need to be verified by your

doctor that they are non-contagious; a note isneeded). If a student is sent home from school for feeling ill, thechild may not return that day. A doctors note forabsences over seven (7) days is required. Thank you foryour cooperation in helping to keep all children and staffhealthy.

REMINDERS:For the protection of the students, please remember thatstudents are not to be on the Garden Gate campusbefore 7:45 a.m. There is no adult supervision until 7:45

a.m.Please do not congregate outside of the classroomswhile school is still in session. This is very disruptive toboth the teacher and the students and could be adistraction from valuable learning time.Every Tuesday is early dismissal day. Please rememberthat all a.m. Kindergarten students are dismissed at 11:10a.m. and all p.m. Kindergarten students along withstudents in grades 1-5 are dismissed at 1:30. Pleaseremember to pick up your children promptly.

VISITING CAMPUSAll visitors entering classrooms as volunteers or meeting

with teachers, must sign in at the office and obtain avisitors name tag when school is in session. For thesafety of all, we need to know who is on the campus. The only exception is at student arrival and dismissaltimes. If you are taking your child out of school for anyreason, ALWAYS sign your child out from school throughthe office and then back in when he/she returns.

INDEPENDENT STUDY CONTRACTSIf you plan to be away from school for a minimum offive school days and a maximum of ten school days, please contact the school office and your childsteacher at least two weeks ahead of your departuredate to arrange for a special Independent StudyContract. The following guidelines must be followed:

A student must be enrolled for threeconsecutive weeks before an IndependentContract can be initiated. The contract and homework must bereturned the first day back to school with allthe work completed, so days missed do notcount as unexcused absences.Students who are absent for more than tenconsecutive days will be dropped from theschool roster. When the studentreturns, if space is available at his or herschool, the student will be reinstated with thepresentation of a current lease, PG&E bill andtwo of the following: drivers license showingcurrent address; bank statement or preprintedcheck; car registration or car insurance; payrollcheck. ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER SCHEDULE

The Cupertino Union School District is constantly striving to streamline and improve our communicatiowith our parent community. As such, starting in November 2012, all elementary schools will betransitioning to an every other week newsletter schedule.

Please be aware that the District will also be implementing several new communication tools to keep yobetter informed and engaged at your school site. You will start receiving periodic emails regarding specifinews items and phone messages from the school site regarding timely items or emergency information

These communication tools will not only save staff time, but will prevent you from receiving the saminformation over and over again. Many of our Middle Schools migrated to a monthly newsletter format several years agoand this schedule has worked well. Given the fact that the amount of parent involvement at the elementary school site ihigher than middle school, the every other week newsletter schedule seems to fit better.
