Diversity & Inclusion "That's Not What I Meant": Not-So-Smart Things Well-Intended People Say in the Workplace This 90-minute instructor-led workshop is based on the book by Dr. Maura Cullen, 35 Dumb Things Well-Intended People Say. These statements, though well intended, can often widen the diversity gap.  This workshop provides participants further insight regarding what are often perceived as harmless statements, but in fact can cause harm.

Building Multigenerational Teams: Cultivating Community Across Generations This 20-minute online course will help employees and managers harness the diverse perspectives of multigenerational teams and foster a positive and inclusive culture across generations. Specifically, you will learn how to: Identify ways to effectively manage across

generations and work with multigenerational teams.

Disabilities Etiquette This 90-minute instructor-led workshop will examine stereotypes associated with common disabilities and illustrate the participants’ emotional reactions to specific disabilities. Participants will gain a better understanding of the impact of attitudes about people with disabilities and the effect they can have on our relationship with each other. The training will conclude with tips on respectful etiquette and language in creating a comfortable work environment for all employees. This workshop is provided in partnership by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities and the Office of Human Resources.

COMING SOON - Diversity Basics This Introductory online module was designed to provide a common language and framework for understanding diversity, equity and inclusion at The Ohio State University. In this module, participants will: Learn what diversity is and why it is important Discover and understand diversity definitions,

Conversations of Performance Management This online curriculum provides you with the tools and resources to engage in thoughtful and rewarding performance conversations. These resources focus on the four critical conversations managers and employees should be having throughout the year: Plan, Develop, Feedback and Review. Modules can be completed in any order.

Discover Your Personal Leadership Brand Learn how to create a brand that goes beyond your strengths, skills and character to convey your leadership ability. This 2-hour instructor-led interactive workshop includes reflection on your personal presence, strengths, how you engage others, and your outcomes and results. We will also consider attitudes or behaviors that may tarnish your brand and how to continue your branding effort after the workshop. This workshop is most effective if you attend with a colleague so you can share ideas on each other’s strengths and brand.

Feedback Skills Managers, do feedback conversations sometimes feel scary? Take the fear out of feedback during this 2.5-hour instructor-led workshop. You will learn to deliver feedback with greater confidence and success and you will leave the workshop with a set of feedback skills you can apply right away.

Process Improvement for Operations Leaders In this 5-hour instructor-led class, participants will learn the OSUWMC approach to process improvement (DMAIC - define, measure, analyze, improve, control), understand the roles involved in process improvement projects and learn to use a variety of process improvement tools.

Supervising Student Employees This 2-hour instructor-led workshop covers foundational principles of supervision through the lens of college student employment. Through learning evidence-based practices, and sharing challenges and strategies with others, participants leave with practical solutions for supervising students in their own context. Learn to set reasonable yet challenging expectation, offer effective feedback and more. Supervising Student Employees is provided in partnership by the Office of Student Life and the Office of Human Resources.

The Art of Influencing Others This 20-minute online course helps you understand the nature of influence and persuasion and gives you tools to increase your influence. By learning the art of influence, you can change people’s minds, win their support, or broaden their perspective without resentment or manipulation.

Working in the Public Sector The Ohio State University is part of the public sector, with assets held in the public trust. This has many implications for the university and for you as a public sector employee. These brief videos describe the essentials of working in this unique environment: History of the Public Sector: This 7-minute video

stresses the importance of fairness and transparency in our work.

Ethics and You: This 14-minute video describes the high ethical standards expected by the university and the Ohio Ethics Commission.

Handling Public Records: This 7-minute video describes how to create, maintain and store the many public records (forms, email, etc.) we handle in our roles.

Critical Thinking Skills Increasing your critical thinking skills can help you in decision making, problem solving, creativity and planning. In this 25-minute online course, you will learn the key characteristics of critical thinking and how to implement a critical thinking process in your work. You will also learn how to avoid critical thinking mistakes, identify assumptions and biases, evaluate information, and distinguish between fact and opinion.

Effective Meetings Do you spend too much time in unproductive meetings? In this 3-hour instructor-led workshop, participants will identify barriers to effective meetings, brainstorm solutions and discuss best practice strategies to implement. Participants will gain practical tools and ideas for determining appropriate meeting membership, structuring agendas and facilitating and evaluating meetings.

Working Through Difficult Conversations Do you sometimes avoid difficult or challenging conversations? Is it hard to decide where to start? Do you have the same conversation more than once with the same person? This 3-hour instructor-led workshop provides tools and practice to increase your skill and comfort in engaging in difficult conversations. Learn how to prepare in advance, start effectively, and maintain a productive environment. We will also discuss handling conversations that become difficult in the moment. This online training is a critical step in understanding the varied aspects of this policy and is required for those with care, custody, or control of minors.

Fair Labor Standards Act 2016 In this 20-minute online introduction to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), you will learn how Ohio State determines the appropriate FLSA status for each employee as well as how the business processes and system support compliance with this federal regulation.

Health and Welfare Benefit Webinar This 90-minute webinar provides you with information that you need to successfully navigate your benefits choices as a new hire. During these sessions, Benefits Consultants will compare key features of the medical plans and other health benefits, and will address issues you need to consider when making your decision.

Workplace Violence Awareness This 15-minute online course outlines workplace violence awareness at the university. By the end of this course, you will be able to: examine Ohio State’s policy and describe your responsibilities, cite how to respond to risks and warning signs of workplace violence, identify actions to utilize in highly charged situations, report and refer to resources, and describe a workplace culture of civility and respect.

Workplace Violence Awareness for Faculty and Staff Supervisors This 15-minute online course outlines the important role of supervisors and managers in preventing and addressing workplace violence at The Ohio State University. By the end of this course, you will be able to: know how to recognize, respond, report and refer; familiarize yourself with and take advantage of university resources; know safety plans in place in your area; follow through when you recognize warning signs; and promote a culture of civility and respect in your words and actions.
