EURO 20 GATE VALVES

• As they can shut off the flow of water through the pipeline, gatevalves have the function of facilitating maintenance operationsor extension work on systems for the replacement or servicingof components.

• In the event of a break or other problem occurring on a pipe,gate valves can be closed in order to limit the risks of flooding.

• Installed on grid systems with interconnections, gate valves actas flow sharing valves and are opened or closed to obtainbalanced distribution at all points.

• Gate valves are also commonly used to protect other valveappliances or to allow their maintenance (control devices, airvalves, fire hydrants, etc.).

EURO 20 gate valves can be installed:- on drinking water conveyance and distribution systems,- on irrigation systems,- on fire protection systems,- in water treatment plants,- in pumping stations,- on tanks, etc..They are perfectly operational whether they are fitted in thehorizontal, vertical or slant position and are now also availablein motorizable or motorized versions.They are connected to the pipes by means of fittings, flangeadapters or sleeve adapters. (See the complete range of cou-plings and fittings in the corresponding catalogues).The range of gate valves has recently been rationalized andcompleted with the addition of new accessories.

Fitted on pipes in water systems, these valves are closed to interrupt the water supply oropened to allow water to flow in systems.

To cater for operation in specific conditions, EURO 20 gate valves are now available inmotorized versions for nominal diameters (DN) from 65 to 400.

Gate valves are shut-off devices which function in the fully open or fully closed positions.

Thanks to the presence of SAINT-GOBAIN CANALISATION teamsin the field and the weaknesses they noted when valves of earlierdesigns were replaced, we have conducted specifically targetedresearch and conceived a gate valve, the EURO 20, which marksa change in habits and offers significantly improvedperformances.These improvements have been achieved through an originaldesign, careful choice of the materials used and the correctdimensioning of components.Owing to the context in which they are used, gate valves must,above all, provide perfect leaktightness of both the body and theseal.

• Tight sealing of the valve in the closed position is obtained bycompressing the gate elastomer coating.

• The original design of the bonnet, with the body-bonnetjunction achieved without nuts or bolts, and the compressionof a gasket give the EURO 20 gate valve a higher internalpressure resistance than is recommended by the applicablestandards.

• The design and geometry of the gate have been modified(addition of gliders from DN 65 to 400, differently placedaccording to DN), significantly reducing friction between thegate and the valve body, preserving the integrity of the epoxycoating and of the elastomer in contact areas.

A gate valve must be able to withstand severe service conditions.Every aspect of the design of the EURO 20 guaranteesexceptional performance levels. Constant improvements to theproduct are aimed at increasing its field of use and furtherextending its service life.

Compatibility with drinking water

To safeguard public health, water supply and distribution, pipesystems are the subject of increasingly severe regulationsthroughout Europe. EURO 20 valves comply with theseregulations, for instance :France - Direction Générale de la Santé (ACS)UK – WRASGermany - KTW, W270And others.For full details about compatibility with drinking water andcertification, please contact our local agent.

Combining aesthetic and functional features, the design of theEURO 20 gate valve aims to guarantee excellent mechanicalstrength: its ductile iron body and bonnet, cold forged stainlesssteel operating stem and ductile iron gate encased in EPDMelastomer set new standards in the market.Since then, further research has been conducted on the EURO 20in order to enhance its performances, lengthen its service life,widen its field of application and make it easier to use, even indifficult circumstances.

The operating conditions of supply systems can lead toconsiderable variations in pressure (water hammer). Thanks to thedesign featuring a self-locking boltless body-bonnet junctiondispensing with bolts, these mechanical stresses are withstoodwithout long-term damage to the product or to its leaktightness.

Gate valves are devices fitted on water supply systems which mustprovide an estimated service life of more than 50 years.Owing to their opening/closing function, they are submitted togreater stresses than the pipe systems they are installed on.Extending their service life and conserving their full functionalcapabilities over time therefore provide operators with aguarantee of safety.

The coating on the EURO 20 range offers new measurable characteristics. The result is a longer service life.

This epoxy powder coating, at least 250 µm thick, on all thevalves internal and external surfaces provides reinforced protection against impacts and aggressive effects of the environment or the fluid conveyed. The addition of gliders between the gate and the valve body significantly decreases

friction and preserves the coating in contact areas,contributing to stabilise the operating torques.

The coating's high strength will be appreciatedduring all valve handling operations (in thefactory and stores, and during delivery andinstallation) and in service on the pipe system.

All these points contribute to significantlyextending the service life of EURO 20 gate valves.

EURO 20 gate valves comply with following standards: EN 1074 and ISO 7259.The face-to-face dimensions of flanged valves comply withseries 15 and 14 of EN 558 and ISO 5752.The valves can be fitted between drilled flanges in compliancewithstandards EN 1092-2, ISO 7005-2.The valves are tested in the factory in accordance with standardsEN 12266-1 and ISO 5208.

Marking of the body aftercasting, on the side of the gatevalve:

- DN (nominal diameter)- PN (nominal pressure)

Label bonded in the frame moulded on the side of the gate valve:- Commercial reference,- Direction of closing - DN - Drilling of flanges,- Year/month of manufacture - Serial number,- Standard number.

Easy operation and maintenance

The body-bonnet junction of the EURO 20 is completely original:the mechanical components inside the valve body are completelyindependent and can be removed by taking off the bush lock nutand dismantling the various components as far as the gate.

– In accordance with standard ISO 7259, the 2 o’ring bushsealing of the EURO 20 can be replaced when the valve isunder pressure and with the system remaining in service. Toperform this servicing operation, the bush lock nut must simplybe loosened when the valve is in the fully open position.

– Various servicing operations on other internal components ofthe gate valve are also possible after shutting off the water flow,without removing the valve body.

These operations do not require any special tools or any specificprotection procedures after reassembly.

SAINT-GOBAIN CANALISATION can supply its customers withspare parts kits on request. They are kept in stock to ensuretheir availability.Customers can simply call SAINT-GOBAIN CANALISATIONtechnical sales service to receive information on these parts andtheir implementation.

Maintenance and spare parts

The gate valves can be operated using:

– a tee key : the key fits on the operating cap which is locatedeither directly on the gate valve or in the valve box on top of afixed-length or telescopic operating unit.

- a handwheel : this may be the case of gate valves installed in aplant or chamber,

- an electric servomotor : this solution is used mainly when thesystem's operating conditions require a large number ofopening and closing cycles, or in case a remoteoperation is needed.

Used for system maintenance:– Equipped with two QUICK GS simple (i.e. non-anchored type), it can be

used in the space DN + 200 mm to replace an old valve without modifyingthe positions of pipes upstream and downstream.
