    Project Title Game Design Document

Project 1 of 2 within this unit

    Description

AGame Design Document describes every aspect of a game concept in a single

treatment suitable for presentation to publishers, financiers and developers.

The objective of this project is to create and develop a game concept inspired by

historical and cultural phenomena and artefacts . Working in teams, you will create a

comprehensive game design document, which you will create using Google Docs. You

will visit and explore a range of cultural institutions before settling on your final concept.

As a formative stage of development, you must pitch the nascent game concept tovalidate further research-and-development. Subsequent feedback must be

incorporated and responded to in the project.

The completed Game Design Document will outline all key elements of your game

concept, and should include persuasive imagery, prototype artwork, narrative, and

thorough explanation of your inspiration and the game's core mechanics. It will also

evidence research into proposed audience, platform, and marketing.

This project addresses the key areas of study as follows:

Studio Practice: Throughout the project you will engage with a series of workshops,

seminars and lectures covering a range of design processes that relate to research anddevelopment stages you may encounter within the games sector. You will receive

instruction on how to pitch an idea and exemplify concepts effectively. The Game

Design Document will include attention to preliminary character/environment/asset

concepts, in relation to supporting game mechanics, story and overall atmosphere.

Initial concept designs would be a distinct advantage in illustrating your presentation,.

You will be introduced to practical aspects of sound design and produce a selection of

    audio samples to accompany submission.

Your submitted Game Design Document must be autonomous and not require any

    supportive verbal dialogue.

Business and Professional Skills: This is integrated within Project 2 CreatingCoherent Worlds. All topics covered are relevant to studio practice and will inform your

    creative and practical decision-making.
