The Thurrock indoor athlecs championships were held at Hassenbrook school last Thursday 4th February. 11 Gable Hall students were selected to parcipate in the compeon and should be very proud of their achievements. All students worked well individually and as a team and are eagerly waing the final results as the compeon was split into 2 secons. It was a very successful evening and showcased the broad talent and music tastes that our students have in Gable Hall from year 7 through to year 13. They managed to raise £155 altogether. Well done guys and we look forward to the next one. Please keep in mind that Gable Hall are holding a quiz night on Friday 26th February, where there will be lots of prizes to be won and lots of other games, get a team together and come along! Indoor Athletics Championship Year 11 Internaonal Cuisine Exam 2016 Part of Year 11’s GCSE Catering Exam has been to prepare and present a two course meal. They had two hours in which to lay their table and prepare and present their food. Georgia Bates’s table below is an example of the standard of presentaon and quality of the food that was achieved. Georgia’s two course meal was a Luxury Macaroni Cheese with toasted croutons and a Fruit Flan made with a rich short crust pastry, a crème passerie and fruit decoraon – all within two hours! Band Night!

The Thurrock indoor athletics championships were held at Hassenbrook school last Thursday 4th February. 11 Gable Hall students were selected to participate in the competition and should be very proud of their achievements. All students worked well individually and as a team and are eagerly waiting the final results as the competition was split into 2 sections.

Year 11 International Cuisine Exam 2016 Part of Year 11’s GCSE Catering Exam has been to prepare and present a two course meal. They had two hours in which to lay their table and prepare and present their food. Georgia Bates’s table below is an example of the standard of presentation and quality of the food that was achieved. Georgia’s two course meal was a Luxury Macaroni Cheese with toasted croutons and a Fruit Flan made with a rich short crust pastry, a crème patisserie and fruit decoration – all within two hours! Well done to Year 11 for an outstanding exam.

Well done to the year 8 Boys Table Tennis Team who played at the regional Table Tennis finals on Saturday 30th January. The team was made up of: Michael Pearn, Max Willats, Sam Neale and Cameron Melly, and they were up against schools from: Hertfordshire, Kent, Hampshire, west Sussex, East Sussex and Berkshire. The Boys played extremely well, and even played against some incredibly talented table tennis players from across the region, some of whom have an England National Ranking. Such a great opportunity for the boys, well done to all of you! Here are some photos of them in action.

On Wednesday 3rd February, the year 9 girls cricket team were selected to represent Gable Hall in the Essex County Tournament at the Cricket Chelmsford County Ground. Well done to all of you for your excellent effort, what a great opportunity!

Super Scientists at Coalhouse Fort

Come down to Coalhouse Fort over February half term and become a scientist for the day. On 15th February children will learn about communication at Coalhouse Fort and have a go at making their own tin can

telephone and electromagnet. Children can then experiment with their communication systems and electromagnets at the fort and take them home.

The activities will take place at Coalhouse Fort on the 15th and 18th February at 10am and costs £5 per child. To book your place call Thameside Theatre on 0845 300 5264

These activities are suitable for children aged 7-12. They must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Year 7 Magenta and Orange colour groups have been creating healthy and colourful fruit salads using a variety of fruits. In fact, so much variety of fruits that we have made a list!

Lukas Antanaitis Year 7 Lukas has achieved his Grade 4 Piano and passed his exam with merit. This comprises QCF Level 2 Certificate (15 credits), Graded Examination in Music Performance by The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music). Well done!

Rhiannon Woods Year 8 Rhiannon has been selected to represent England in her chosen sport of baton twirling at the NBTA European Championships 2016. Well done on this amazing achievement Rhiannon!

Lucy Downey Year 9 Lucy has been successful in her badminton recently. She was the youngest person to have won a recent tournament, hence her clipping in the Echo newspaper! Lucy also played for Essex on Sunday 10th January for under 15's, winning all her matches, singles, doubles and mixed, playing away at Bedfordshire. Well done, and keep up your hard work!

Emily Gregory Year 9 Congratulations to Emily for her Lamda exam results, taken at the end of last year. Emily has been awarded a distinction for her hard work. Well done and keep up the hard work!

Emily Gorham Year 7 Emily made an inspirational couscous. The dish was beautifully presented and wouldn't look out of place at a top restaurant! Well done Emily.

Victoria Allan and Chelsea Pollard Year 9 Victoria and Chelsea have been extremely busy making their own pastry and filling - all in one hour! They made Bakewell Tarts and decorated with lattice work. Well done girls!

Leo Ayres Year 7 Year 7 were set cookery homework; ‘to plan, prepare, cook and serve a starter or snack type dish’. This had to be presented with photos and a record of making the product. Leo came up with a doughball recipe and his homework was laminated and turned into a booklet, which made it exceptional. Here are a few chosen pages from the booklet. Fantastic effort Leo, well done!

HOMEWORK CLUB

Need a quiet place to work? Need help to get organised? Need support with projects? The Homework Club is the club for you! We run every day in the LRC from 3.05 until 4.30 Monday to Thursday and 3.05 – 4.00 on Friday. Two members of staff will be available to support you. No need to sign up, you can come along as you please. You will be asked to sign in on arrival and this will earn you points on the school reward system. If you have any queries please

Please credit your SQUID account!

The initial overdraft facility given to all students on SQUID for cashless payments has now expired. Please remember to top up your SQUID account as your children may be unaware of low or zero funds being available when they approach the till with their items. As we all know this can cause anxiety and embarrassment in all of us. There are five ways of topping up SQUID, including Auto Top up and Direct Transfer. All are detailed on your SQUID portal.

In order to help you when purchasing a new pair of shoes for your child we have included some images of acceptable and unacceptable footwear. Please contact the school if you are at all unsure before making your purchase

If your son/daughter suffers from Asthma, it is vital that they have an asthma pump on them at all times, and a spare one in the Medical Bay, especially now the weather conditions have changed!

‘Kicker’ type shoes (not ankle boots) are a popular choice due to their hardwearing

nature.

‘Hybrid’ trainer/shoes are not acceptable.
