This was billed as an opportunity for the world’s leading democracies to reach major new agreements to help the world combat, and then 'build back better' from coronavirus and create a greener, more prosperous future. The plenary meetings required additional specific functions provided by Davra's Webex Legislate, including a secure video lobby where users could be authenticated before joining the meeting, simultaneous interpretation with real-time translation in six languages, and remote voting. ITGL and Identity selected Cisco Webex as the best technology to facilitate these hybrid experiences, with both remote and onsite participants. Boris Johnson invited four guest leaders to join Joe Biden, Angela Merkel, and the other G7 leaders. ITGL was contacted by Identity who were the lead event delivery partner for this major international event. The ongoing pandemic meant that remote participation would be offered to anyone who was unable to travel to Carbis Bay. Identity required ITGL, a leading collaboration specialist, to provide the technological consultancy and solution that would make this work.

Perfectly managed eventIn the months ahead of the June G7 summit, ITGL hosted preliminary ministerial meetings as well as a series of technical checks. These helped prepare for the main event and enabled delegates who were remotely attending to test their joining experience. Any individual user issues were identified at the time and resolved by the ITGL team.

During the summit, specialists from ITGL and Identity provided on-site technical meeting moderation, seamlessly running video feeds and content sharing during the meetings. Our team coordinated the meeting agendas while responding to requests for additional meetings and troubleshooting any user issues.

These vitally important meetings left no room for technical error. To ensure this, we created resilient meetings using diversely located backups to mitigate any issues and provide a ‘fail safe’ in case any connection issues were encountered during a session.

“The use of Legislate for Webex at G7 in Carbis bay was a milestone for the product and Davra but more importantly gave us the opportunity to create a solid relationship with ITGL and Identity in light of future events opportunities!”Brian McGlynn, Davra COO

“Thank you for the truly above and beyond support you afforded our team in anticipation of the G7 Environmental Ministers Meeting last month. Not only were we able to participate in the summit flawlessly because of your guidance, but you also aided us (at all hours of the day) in repairing a network setting on our end that has alleviated other major challenges we have been experiencing.”Grant O’Brien,U.S Environmental ProtectionAgency

Although most meetings were planned, many additions such as last-minute press conferences and break-out meetings were needed at short notice. In each case, our event team was able to quickly adapt the technology for the required session and provide attendees with every opportunity to collaborate. The G7 event has been recognised as a great success, thanks in no small part to the seamless deployment of technology that kept everyone securely connected.

Across four days with 283 Webex supported sessions, we provided the G7 leaders, invited guests, and media with an experience that matched everyone being there in person.

What's next?ITGL is proud to have been a part of the delivery team for the G7 Summit. Our work with Identity and Davra to create this successful event means that we are now looking to future events.
