2.3 Network requirements

The kiosk requires:

• A wired Ethernet outlet,

• Ethernet 10/100 MB/sec,

• A static IP address.

2.4 Environmental requirements

Place the system in a location that meets the following environmental requirements:

• Humidity: 0% to 85% RH, non-condensing

• Operating temperature: 32° F to 104° F (0° C to 40° C)

• Storage temperature: -4° F to 140° F (-20° C to 60° C)

These kiosks should not be used outdoors or in wet or damp environments. IP rating: IP20

2.5 Location

Location requirements – Standalone and Height adjustable

versions

The system must be located:

• Within reach of an electrical outlet and network connection,

• No closer than 8 inches (20.3 cm) from any vertical surface to allow proper

ventilation,

• Away from direct sunlight,

• In an area that is easily accessible for disabled patrons, wheelchair users, elderly

patrons and mothers with pushchairs. Ideally, this would be on the ground floor of

the library (where an elevator is not present or accessible), on a flat floor surface.

• The standalone kiosk adheres to all ADA and DDA regulations. This means that all

interactive options on the kiosk are located within the required interactive zone -

(Maximum height (Interactive zone): 48” / 1220 mm, Minimum height (Interactive zone):

15” / 380 mm, and Minimum aisle width between the kiosk and another object (other

bookshelf, wall or furniture): 48” / 1220 mm.

• Placing the kiosk on a raised platform or level may place interactive elements out of

the required ADA and DDA interactive zone and is strongly advised against.

bibliotheca recommends that you locate the kiosk:

• Near an exit, in an area visible to patrons and staff (who can monitor use and offer

assistance),

• In an area with sufficient space for carts and other carrying devices,

Page 12: G-LBPI1047EN.009 hybrid selfCheck™ 1000

www.bibliotheca.com | 12

The standalone hybrid selfCheck™ 1000 kiosk can be fixed to the floor surface.

Location requirements – Desktop version

In addition to the requirements stated in Location Requirements - Standalone, the hybrid

selfCheck™ 1000 desktop must be placed on a table, counter or cabinet supplied by the

library. The table must meet the following requirements:

• Be sturdy enough to support the kiosk (see Desktop kiosk dimensions and weight),

• Be designed so that the kiosk cannot slide or be pushed off the surface,

• Meet ADA / DDA height requirements for tables, counters and cabinets,

o Additionally, take in to account the combined height of the table,

counter or cabinet and the kiosk so that it does not exceed the maximum

height – 596mm (see the Maximum heights for furniture section).

Page 13: G-LBPI1047EN.009 hybrid selfCheck™ 1000

www.bibliotheca.com | 13

Maximum heights for furniture

Please note that the maximum height is not intended as a recommended

height, but as a height that should not be exceeded.

Consult your local authorities to see if they have recommended or required

heights for DDA or ADA compliance before ordering or building any furniture.

As a general rule, the maximum height of furniture should be calculated so that the top of

the desktop kiosk, when placed on the furniture, is at the same height as the top of the

standalone, none height adjustable version of the kiosk. This will ensure that all interactive

elements are located at a convenient height for both disabled and able bodied patrons.

The maximum height of furniture, when using a hybrid selfCheck™ 1000D, is:

• Height of the Standalone version = 1476mm

• Height of the Desktop version = 880mm

• Difference (and maximum furniture height) = 596mm

Page 14: G-LBPI1047EN.009 hybrid selfCheck™ 1000

www.bibliotheca.com | 14

Additional considerations for desktop kiosks

• Where multiple desktop kiosks are being used on the same work surface, ensure that

there is enough space between each kiosk to allow a wheelchair user to easily

manoeuvre.

• To meet ADA side approach requirements, the touchscreen should be located no

further than 15 inches from the front of the counter. This means that the touchscreen

(and any other interactive element) is easily in arms reach to all patrons, including

wheelchair users.

• Consider using height adjustable desks that will allow patrons to quickly change the

height level of the furniture surface. Additionally, there is usually has a level of

clearance under the desk that will allow wheelchair users to get closer to the kiosk.

The hybrid selfCheck™ 1000D kiosk is not designed to be fixed to the table

surface.

Required Clearances – Metal and RFID equipment

The RFID antenna used in the hybrid selfCheck™ 1000 kiosk is fully shielded, and, as such, is

designed not to detect RFID items placed underneath or to the side of the aperture read

area.

To ensure optimal performance, the hybrid selfCheck™ 1000 unit should be installed

observing the following clearances from other objects in the library:

• Distance from security pedestals: 8’3” (2.5 metres).

• Metal should not be placed within the aperture of the hybrid selfCheck™ 1000 kiosk

or placed on the glass shelf attached to the device.

• The detection field of the antenna is minimal enough that it will not affect other

kiosks or RFID products within the near vicinity (excluding security pedestals). As there

should be clear working space for patrons on each side of the kiosk, kiosk detection

fields will never overlap or interfere with each other.

2.6 Item capacity and dimensions

• Item capacity – 15 RFID at any one time (if set to RFID only)

If the kiosk is in hybrid mode (RFID and EM), only one item should be processed

at a time.

2.7 Smartcard requirements

The information we need to know from the customer in order to configure the smartcard

reader is as follows:

• Smartcard type (Mifare Classic or Mifare DESFire)

For Mifare Classic cards:

• Read key for the sector where the barcode is stored

• Location on the smartcard memory where the barcode is stored

• Format that the barcode is stored in (e.g. ASCII)

For Mifare DESFire cards:

• Type of encryption used (e.g. AES)

• Decryption key for the location where the barcode is stored

• Application ID of the location where the barcode is stored (e.g. 01 01 01)

• File number within the application (e.g 1)

• Offset within the file (e.g. 0)

• Format that the barcode is stored in (e.g. ASCII)
