Introduction -Our TeamAs the Community Development Department works on both Community & Economic Development projects, planning for projects are integrated.

Additionally, project updates are issued annually in keeping with the budget cycle.

Therefore, the planning horizon for economic development projects now will be one year.

Approach to Plan Updates

At the first public meeting, an update on Clarkdale metrics relative to the current plan was presented.

At the first four pillar meetings, speakers with businesses or operations in those areas were asked to speak about their perspectives on conducting business in Clarkdale and ways in which they’d like to see additional support develop.

At the second meeting of the Creative Clarkdale pillar, the original ideas from the first meeting were reviewed and some additional ideas were added. This second pillar meeting was set up at the request of those who attended the first Creative Clarkdale meeting.

All of these ideas were merged into a list of projects.

It means focusing on a sustainable way of life. It means appreciating that Clarkdale can embrace a dynamic future without losing its identity.

Community Development Department -Projects on the List


Efficient and high-volume daily operations in support of our customers is our first priority.

As time permits, an ongoing list of projects is tackled in the following areas:

1. Planning 2. Research3. Development, and 4. Marketing.

Ideas from Stakeholder Meetings were folded into the ongoing project lists to incorporate as many ideas as possible.

1. Pursue arts and wellness nexus with Urban Land Institute for grant opportunities.

2. Identify possible sites suitable for public art.

development pursuits.

1. Collaborate with Community Services, Public Works and the arts community to add and enhance outdoor public spaces.

2. Work with Yavapai College programs to expand business oriented classes for artists through the Small Business Development Center.

3. Encourage recreational activity and community connections through artistic spaces especially during events working with CDBA and others.

4. Develop networking opportunities for the arts community.

5. Develop a ‘Benches as Art’ program for Clarkdale.6. Create a timeline project as public art.

1. Develop a business recruitment plan and budget for next fiscal given consumer data.

2. Work with Verde Valley Regional Economic Organization and the SBDC on entrepreneurial programs and on workforce development.

MARKETING PROJECTS

1. Plan for and conduct August 2018 NACOG Regional Council Meeting. DONE

2. Update ExperienceClarkdale.com and Clarkdale.AZ.gov websites.3. Maintain Clarkdale sites with Arizona Commerce Authority, Arizona

Office of Tourism, Arizona Rural Development Council, Arizona Prospector, Sedona Verde Valley Tourism Council, Local First Arizona and others.

4. Participate in the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) Rural Cooperative. 5. Establish and operate a local business feature and directory on the

websites.6. Create and load a Clarkdale video on the websites. DONE7. Develop 2019 calendar and distribute to AOT, the Drive Guide,

Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce, and Phoenix Magazine.8. Develop next round of promotional products for Clarkdale.

Clarkdale produces enough tax revenue to sustain itself

Tax revenues depend on too few businesses and the loss of one business can be onerous

Revitalized Main Street with functional, resilient buildings, businesses and attractions; Main Street becomes a destination

Vacant store fronts on Main Street - historic buildings are beautiful, very large and are costly to renovate plus parking is a problem

Locals and visitors frequent Clarkdale businesses Too few shoppers and visitors to our businesses - we have supply/demand and marketing challenges

A variety of housing exists to attract residents at all income levels

Housing is expensive in Clarkdale and there is not much availability

Locally-owned businesses find it easy to do business in Clarkdale

Individual Clarkdale-owned and operated businesses are promoted and supported

Clarkdale partners with educational resources to produce skilled workers needed for local business

Clarkdale needs a trained workforce to attract new jobs

The Town offers funding approaches to support entrepreneurial activity

We need creative ways to structure transactions to be able to entice folks to buy into Clarkdale
