Hooray! Golf season is here! Not that we in the temperate Bay Area suffered terribly from a long cold winter without golf. But I am still really excited about this year. As you know, the FWGA offers 300 casual play opportunities a year. We have nine club tournaments this year and a club championship.

A Letter from the President

World Handicap System Update

During the summer of 2020, members who belong to two or more clubs will be

NCGA Multi-Member Rebate I know it seems strange at first; but, it is actually a better system to calculate an accurate handicap index. The old ESC system was not very forgiving if you had a blow-up hole on a par 3. Please watch the new World Handicap System video on FWGA’s YouTube Channel called Net Double Bogey. The video illustrates how to pop a scorecard and calculate the max score to post on each hole. It also illustrates using the new GHIN program, how to post the total adjusted gross score and post using the new hole-by-hole feature.

We are now fully immersed in the new World Handicap System.

After a few minor delays, the new GHIN system is up and running. GHIN and Member Planet are synced together and everything is working perfectly. Members will need to update their MyNCGA and GHIN apps on their phones. Just delete the old apps and download the new app. They look like this:

The New GHIN System Update

With the new Playing Conditions Calculation, it is important to post the same day as you play. The easiest way to post quickly is with one of the apps. Not all golf courses have their posting kiosks working at this time, which makes the phone apps even more convenient. The app’s functions are identical to the golf course kiosks.

New Golf Season Rules Review

Start the new golf season with a good understanding of the 8 most common rules and how to apply them. Go to ForeWomenGolf.org -> Resources -> Rules -> 8 Common Situations. Just click on any of the eight situations to be taken to a short explanation of the situation and option with an illustrative video.

PWGA Playdays and Tournaments

New this year!. With the unification of the NCGA, PWGA and WGANC, there are greater resources, programming and services available to all female golfers and clubs in Northern California.

For the first time, the PWGA is making a selected number of their Play Days and Tournaments open to all NCGA women. The PWGA requires each club to submit one application for all their members to each tournament. We need a new FWGA PWGA Rep to organize interest for the new PWGA tournaments. Interested? Please contact Jen Shaull.

New Ghin.com Graphics

Ghin.com has new graphic feedback about your round if you enter your score using the hole-by-hole method. Just click the down arrow in the stats column to see your round in detail. The goal is a little less maroon and red…. More gray and blue. If you want to track more detail, you can also enter advanced stats such as GIR, putts, etc.

Being Fore Women means we are also individual members of NCGA, the Northern California Golf Association (https://ncga.org/)

NCGA has many program offerings, and several of us over the years have participated in various NCGA events.

I want to expand the tournament experience for our members to the many offerings of the NCGA.

When the NCGA Casual Play 2020 schedules have been finalized. I will choose a few events to promote FWGA participation. Interest will be gathered using the Whoozin Special Events group. Registration guidance will be given if needed. The chosen events will be added to the FWGA Event Calendar.

Aside from the chosen NCGA events, our goal is to also let you know about all the play, competition and travel opportunities offered by the NCGA.

The individual NCGA Casual Play pages (Member Outings, Weekend Net Tour and the Senior Series) on the FWGA website will be updated for all the events that do not require an overnight stay. Members can click on a link to register directly with the NCGA using Golf Genius.

Here are the four Casual Play series organized by the NCGA. Note that these links may not have been updated yet for 2020, but looking at the 2019 schedule gives you an idea of what to expect.

There are many more programs offered by NCGA, visit their website to learn more.

2020 will be a great year for golf!

If you have any questions, please contact me using the website contact form or my email in the FWGA Address Book. Charlotte Moon NCGA Tournament Director

Member outings are one day casual play offerings at various courses in Northern California for both women and men NCGA members. It’s a great chance to play at both public and private courses in Northern California. Get a foursome together and play.

These are numerous weekend tournaments at various courses. Most of these are open to women and men players with any valid GHIN index, and tournament rules apply. There are various game formats as well – the schedule will provide this detail.

This is a smaller set of tournaments with separate flights for seniors (55-64) and super seniors (65 and over), both women and men. Get a foursome and enter – you’ll be surprised how the GHIN index and course handicap system really does a great job of leveling the playing field between the women and men!

NCGA offers golf vacations far and wide. The 2020 Women’s Only trip to Palm Springs, Oct 8-12, 2020 is now open. A few FWGA golfers are going. Sign up!
