The Tablet PC
Introducing the Tablet PC
A tablet PC (Personal Computer) is a variation of the laptop.
In this case, it is equipped with a stylus and a touchscreen.
Tablet PCs may be used where notebooks are impractical or unwieldy, or do not provide the needed functionality.
Types of Tablets
There are many variations of the tablet. These do not necessarily fall into the PC
category. PDAs and ebook readers (Amazon Kindle)
fall into this category. The Apple iPad, although provides similar
functionality to the traditional computer, it is not necessarily considered one.

Benefits in Education Many of these computers are equipped
with more powerful operating systems with an edition specifically designed for education.
They also run most applications a traditional PC would use, like word processors, etc.
Tablets are portable and practical, allowing a student to achieve many tasks with flexibility.
Benefits in Education
The ability to take notes: These devices can convert hand written notes
into word processed text. Taking notes is as fast as writing in a
notebook. Students can store their notes in digital
format. The written material can be linked to online
resources previously stored material.
Other Benefits in the Classroom Whenever needed, the student can access
online material to complement their studies.
With linked audio capabilities, a Tablet PC can record audio at the same time a student takes notes.
Students can control their PCs through voice command.
Work is completed in less time, therefore increasing productivity.

Will the Tablet Work in the Classroom?
The tablet PC is truly a unique form of keeping up with the tasks involved in education. The technology behind it is flexible, and it's design helps it be effective in the class room.
Whenever this technology is used correctly in the educational environment, I am positive that it will become an asset as an instructional tool.
