Fur is the hair off of an animal. People use it for clothing. It is a problem because of the cruelty it's use causes to animals.

Chinese Fur Farming

China is one of the largest importers and re-exporters of fur

Fur Trade Ban Bill Brought in Israel

Knesset member Nitzan Horowitz proposed on March, 18th 2009 a bill to prohibit the fur industry in its entirety, including all importation, production and all sales in Israel; illuminating that his intention is "not to lend a hand to this cruelty towards animals.” In light of this bill, Israel takes a giant leap forward; from having no existing law concerning fur; to becoming the first nation on the planet to completely protect all fur bearing animals from the suffering and death inflicted upon millions of animals at the hands of the fur industry the world over.

Local Connections

Around the world, fur factory farms and squalid backyard operations are holding animals captive in cages and killing them by methods such as neck-breaking and electrocution (and in China even live skinning) to supply United States retailers and consumers with furs. In 2000, the US banned the import or export of dog and cat furs, however this does not end the practice, as factors such as mislabeling must be taken into consideration. The US currently ranks fourth in the world in the production of mink.
