INTRODUCTION

Energy efficiency is a central theme in the work program of the European Commission. In the draftfor a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on energy efficiency from June 2011(COM (2011) 370 final), its goal, 20% of primary energy consumption by 2020-azusparen and pave the way to greater energy efficiency in the period thereafter. For theproposed measures, including energy audits, can be part of an energy orIts environmental management system. Companies and organizations that such a systemoperate, are on the safe side. Also, the "Energy Roadmap 2050" (COM (2011) 885/2),the EU Commission presented in December 2011, aimed at energy efficiency.

In advance these proposals, the European standardization organization (CEN) on 1 July 2009the "EN 16001:2009 Energy management systems - Requirements with guidance for use" (GermanText: "EN 16001 Energy management systems - Requirements with guidance for applicationtion ") published. In the summer of 2011, the same international standard ISO 50001 was published, inDecember 2011 published in German translation as "ISO 50001 energy managementmanagement systems - Requirements with guidance for use " 1. In Germany, it has since24th April 2012, DIN EN 16001 replaced.

The structure of ISO 50001 is based on the common elements of ISO managementsystem standards, in particular the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. With an energy management systemaccording to this standard organizations should be able, systems and processesestablish necessary to improve their energy-related performance.

The EMAS Regulation 2 in turn contains structures of ISO 14001 and sets the focusenvironmental management to improve environmental performance. EMAS therefore does not meetautomatically all the requirements of ISO 50,001th But if the use of energy as a significantEnvironmental aspect already part of the environmental management system (in which organizationsfor which ISO 50001 is relevant to assume is) just a few technical updatesand specifications, eg with regard to energy-related performance, energy rating etc.be required.

The ISO 50001 summarizes the responsibilities of top management and environmental managementcommissioned together (4.2) in a separate section. These can be found at differentAsk the EMAS and ISO 14001 again, but there are often only in the context of the requirements of"The organization" formulated. You may be able clarifications within the organizational structurebe required

In terms of transparency, the ISO 50001 goes to the DIN EN 16001 a step back, asis no longer required that the energy policy of the public must be accessible. Whether itis communicated externally, the organization can decide (4.5.3).

EMAS companies and organizations put their hand environmental data, measures andSuccesses very concisely displays in a validated environmental statements to the publicApproved EMAS verifier are authorized 3 Environmental Audit Act § 9 Para, Certificationcertificates granted in accordance with ISO 50001. Within the certification process, it is their responsibilityof course, the obligation to consider all the requirements of the standard.

1These and all other DIN standards can obtained from Beuth Verlag GmbH, 10772 Berlin (www.beuth.de)are.2Regulation (EC) for 1221/2009 on the voluntary participation by organizations in a CommunityEco-management and audit scheme
