In the July 2011 newsletter I informed you that I had colon cancer. Since that time I have had 23 chemo treatments at MCV and have had three CT scans. I get my 24 th chemo treatment on June 4 th and have a CT scan on Friday of that week. I go back to the oncologist on Monday, June 11 th and will not see him again until the end of August. He believes that my body needs a break after so many chemo treatments and I agree. I would have not taken so long a break, but he is my doctor and has my best interests in mind. So I will take the break and try to benefit from it. Yes…my oncologist has been a large part of the healing process over the past year. But I have to admit that the chemo and the other drugs go only so far in the healing process. The other part of the process, and one that I feel is crucial, is the part you and others have played by lifting me up in your prayers. I am absolutely convinced that without those prayers and your continual love and support I would not be where I am today. While the chemo was doing its dirty work on the cancer, your prayers and support were keeping my spirits up and my mind filled with positive thoughts. I have been blessed to serve you as your Interim Pastor over the past year and want you to know that I could not have done as well as I have without your love and care. Though the cancer in my liver has not shrunk as quickly as I would have wanted it to, it is shrinking and I feel that things are progressing in the right direction. Because it has not shrunk enough though, I more than likely will resume in the fall where I left off in June with the chemo treatments. Once the liver is ready, I will then be considering other options such as radiation. As I continue in this process I am looking forward to not having the chemo treatments every two weeks. I remain full of hope as I have been from the start. To me there is no other option. Thank you again for helping me remain this way. God bless you all as we together move into the future, seeking to love and serve God wherever we are lead. I am very hopeful about the future and pray that you are to.
