 A MOTHER was killed in a head-on road collision on Saturday and a man believed to be her husband was last night ghting or his lie. The woman died ater the car which she was driving crashed into another vehicle on the Portadown Road outside Tandragee. Police said that the male driver and passenger in the other vehicle were taken to hospital but did not have lie- threatening injuries. The Dungannon man, whose amily spoke to the News Letter last night, survived ater discovering the pipe bomb hidden behind a rose bush near to his vehicle on Saturday. In a statement, the PSNI — whose ocers helped deuse the “viable” explosive device — made no mention o the act that the man was a police ocer until six years ago and did not state that he was the bomber’s intended target. However, the ormer ocer’s amily – who or security reasons asked not to be identied – said that they believe the placement o the bomb beside the driver’s door o the vehicle shows clearly  who its intended target was. The attack came just days ater an o-duty soldier escaped a sophisticated attempt to kill him  when a bomb was placed inside his car in north Belast.
