From the RTS 60 years Chairman

Dear Tablers,In the Table we learn to adapt, adopt and improve in life. Looking back at the past 5 years we really did just that. With a new wind of Tablers a much needed change came about. The Table culture had to adapt and adopt to newer greater visions. We felt that this was the right time to change our banner and upgrade our logo for the RT Suriname. The Table spirit had its ups and downs but we can safely say that we have improved and are now constantly improving and growing. With larger events such as the BUBU party we are also able to do more charity and involve ourselves more internationally with the focus in our region. We are now celebrating our 60th anniversary and even though I cannot imag-ine how much fun it must have been way back then…. For now I’m forever putting it in ink, that 60 years later we are still the best organization in the world. Brothers from “another mother” I hope you will enjoy our program as we have put the best that we have in 4 days of Suriname Tabling-fun to share with you. Thanks for being here in celebrating our 60 years Round Table Suri-name. CheersYours in Tabling Marc RefosChairman RTS 60 years

The history of Round Table SurinameEstablishment date: July 14th, 1955Charter date: May 26th, 1956Charter Issue date: September 14th, 1956 Gatherings every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Almost right after the establishment of the Rotary club in Suriname, some arguments amongst mostly the young members had the same implication as those of Marchesi. In addition to this, the classification of the different trades and profession of the mem-bers was such that, in fact, you almost had the same persons in Chamber of Commerce and the Suriname Trade & Industry Association. This issue was supported by Mr. C.H.H Jongbaw and after a brief discussion convinced our honorary member Ab J.M. Judell to inform about the Round Table in the Netherlands. As a result of this inquiry, Ab Judell received some documenta-tion and material from Mr. Hoek of the Round Table Schiedam. On July 4th 1955 , Ab Judell founded the Round Table Suriname.

After his assessment in Suriname he proceeded to make the documents in order for us to join the RTI during the 9th Round Table General meeting in Versailles. Tabler Engbert Jonkers, past Chair-man of the Table Vechtstreek, award-ed us the Charter on behalf of Round Table International on September 14th, 1956.

My dearest Surinamese Table brothers,

It is for me as President of the 40 + Club Suriname an honor to align you on this special occasion on behalf of the entire club (which already counts more than 70 local members and 27 in Netherlands), and congratulate you reaching this milestone.

60 years as a club you don’t just achieve, there are many basic and emotional moments at the base of this. The most beautiful anecdotes, the funniest mo-ments, the best friendships, the most exciting trips but unfortunately also sad days and memorable situations.

As a child of a Tabler from the first hours and also the son of the founder of the 40 + Club Suriname, I have always been fed with the Table traditions and manners.

So I have learned ever since my childhood what real friendships are, how you deal with real friends but most of all how your family ties are strengthened by doing so much together. I will not elaborate too much about all this kind of activities because I see that they are still the same as it was Tabling almost 50 years ago. There are not many differences with what is happening now. Also 50 years ago there was a spitting image of any Tabler from now in their behavior, way of thinking and manners. I am therefore happy to know that: “the Table always will be the Table…..”

What I do want to point out is that: Being a Tabler is a great honor, That not everyone can be Tabler, or can become one, That you are not a Tabler with your PIN, but deep in your heart and blood vessels That Tablers appreciate their friendship and respect each other That Tablers are always there for each other, That within the Table family ties are a priority A real Tabler lives, sleeps, and dreams the TableFrancisco (Pancho) Samson

Dear Friends, Round Table Suriname is a “statistical impossibility”. Why?Because most of us have no common background, no shared childhood and no family relations. To make things worse we all differ by color, race, politics, culture and religion. But regardless of the above Suriname Tablers have an extraordinary friendship that extends far past the age of 40. This friendship feeds on our mutual passion for life and an extraordinary drive to achieve our goals. It is trough this friendship that we now celebrate our 60th anniversary.A very special occasion to commemorate this “statistical impossible” friend-ship. It is a friendship of infinite trust and mutual respect.A friendship that rises above our differences but is bounded by our mutual passions. A friendship that has come of age because Tablers over the past 60 years be-lieved and continued to invest in this friendship all through even the darkest periods in our country. Those efforts should never be forgotten, it burdens us with the obligation to continue to invest in this friendship and safeguard it for our future Tablers. As it is our children’s future which depends on those future Tablers to adopt, adapt and improve. We invite you to celebrate and more so to experience our friendship.Welcome to our 60th anniversary celebration!

YIT,

Roger Hogenboom
