From the Principal’s Desk

Good Afternoon Everyone,

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of what has been a very,

very busy Term 4! Our last day for Term 4 is this Friday 22 Septem-

ber before we have a two week break. Please enjoy the rest and

take care!

On Monday night, we were brilliantly represented by both our Choir and Performance

Dancers at the ‘Our Spectacular’ Concert at the Sydney Opera House. Our choir was

part of a massed choir of over 500 students. Our choir sang beautifully and our

dancers performed magnificently. It was a tremendous evening of entertainment.

Congratulations everyone! I also want to pass on my sincere thanks to the

coordinating teachers who have been working with these groups – Mrs Thurley, Mrs

Sayan, Miss Mastrippollito, Miss Spence and Mrs Stroud.

As I’ve mentioned, at the moment our school has been preparing for the School

Excellence Validation Process. Our evidence sets and executive reports has been

uploaded and submitted to the Department for viewing by the validation panel. Our

data reveals we’re performing very well and I’m very proud of the progress of our

students and the quality of our teaching. Early next term, I will be having an

Information Evening for parents where I will present this data about our progress. At

this meeting, I will also like to discuss with parents what the data means for our future

School Plans. Again in the drafting of the 2018-2020 School Plan, I will seek parent /

carer support in the formation of a working team representative of parents, executive

and teachers.

Importantly, the Parent Survey ‘Partners in Learning’ is another opportunity for

parents and carers to provide feedback on the progress of the school and comments

for future ideas. I urge you all to take the time to complete the survey as this

information is crucial in linking the school plan to a collective direction representative

from all key stakeholders. Our Year 4 – Year 6 student have already completed their

“Tell Them From Me’ data. Our staff are also completing the survey ‘’Focus on

Learning’. Please note that all of these surveys will be closed this Friday 22 September.

All survey data will then be closely analysed in preparation for the new school plan.

Finally, at the end of the year, schools usually have two staff development days after

the last day for students. This year, students and our teachers will finish on Friday 15

December, 2017. Please note, the school will not be operational on Monday 18 and

Tuesday 19 December, 2017. This means the school will be closed on those dates

and there will be NO supervision. Instead, our staff will continue to participate in

extra Professional Learning Twilight sessions in lieu both this term and next. OOSH will

continue to operate as per their normal December schedule.

Yours sincerely,

T. Loughhead

Roy Ringrose has visited 3M this week!

This term 3M have been learning about humour,

embarrassment and friendship as part of our Bounce

Back unit. 3M have created a

5-minute giggle gym session that

takes place one to two times a

week reviewing why it is good to

have some laughter in your day.

During one of our Bounce Back

lessons, 3M sang a song and

discussed how laughing can make

us feel better when we are sad.

During circle time ways of coping

were identified and the idea that

sad times do not last. Students

were to create a sad clown being

happy and discuss the ways

clowns make us feel. Students

were engaged in a modelled

drawing lesson of a clown. Using

their own artistic styling skills,

students were able to design and

demonstrate their understanding

of humour. Students discussed

how to bounce back in situations

that can be embarrassing.
