Caring for Children – Working with Parents
Science Incursion As part of their Integrated studies term 1 unit of work, the grade 3s and grade 4s enjoyed investigating many aspects of both plant and animal life cycles during our hands-on science incursion last week.
National Ride2School Day 2019 – Friday 22 March In the spirit of embracing a healthy and happy start to the day, we encourage all students and their families to leave the car at home and give riding, walking, scooting or skating to school a go. National Ride2School Day is the perfect opportunity to kick-start new healthy habits and promote the many benefits of active transport for our community. If you can’t actively travel the whole way, consider parking the car nearby and riding or walking the rest of the way.
It’s going to be a wheelie good day and we hope to see you there!

Caring for Children – Working with Parents
Junior School Council The Junior School Council students have met three times this term. They have voted on a fundraising activity and a charity and have decided that they would hold a Crazy Hair Day for the school, raising money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. This is to be held on the 3rd of April 2019 and they have made great advertising posters that are up around the school. Additional to these fundraising efforts, the students have discussed other parts of school life that they are interested in. Some students in the group have identified the senior tyre play area as a part of the school they would like to try rejuvenate this year if this is possible. They are an enthusiastic and motiviated group of students that are keen to run fundraisers and generate change in the school.

Caring for Children – Working with Parents
A HELPFUL FORTNIGHT!!
We have welcomed Nadine who will be working with us now on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Nadine has been marvellous and the children and I have really enjoyed her friendly and generous manner, and her excellent breakfast making skills!
During the past fortnight we have also welcomed Asher, Caleb, and Ethan to our Program. Thank you for joining us ☺
We have had some more wonderful displays of children seeing that someone needed a little assistance and using leadership skills to keep our Program running smoothly. Two occurrences come to mind immediately. Both involved children looking around and thinking of ways they could help others. One Tuesday morning when we were very, very busy, Emily B. came up to Nadine and myself and asked if we needed any help because we were making lots and lots of breakfasts at the time in the dining area. It was just as a number of children had asked for their breakfast at once. Emily had observed this and felt that some extra hands would be good – and they were! Emily took out the bowls for cereal, poured the cereal and milk in, poured milk in the cups and put the bread into the toaster, She took some orders for us and then served the children their breakfast. When children had finished, Emily stacked the plates and cups on the sink ready for us to wash them. Emily did this without being asked, using her intuition that some extra assistance was needed. Thank you Emily, your vision and help was outstanding, and we applaud the leadership you demonstrated.
The other notable deed was by Joshua J, who saw that it was very busy in the main room. Joshua decided it would be a good idea to be a lookout, ensuring that the Prep children were enjoying themselves playing with the dominoes, cars and trains and the doll’s house and play kitchen. He stood in the middle of the room and helped the children when he felt they needed help, and Joshua made sure that everyone was playing safely and happily. If there was to be a problem Joshua was ready to let Nadine and myself know – but there were no problems at all – we think because the children knew that Joshua was at hand to help. Again, Joshua did not ask to do this, he simply felt that it was a good idea because we were busy. As we do for Emily, we applaud the leadership that Joshua showed that morning. Thank you Joshua for the leadership you demonstrated. Both Emily and Joshua highlighted the wonderful children we have at Breakfast Club and the way we care for others.
Last week our Preps had their first Wednesday at Breakfast Club and managed very well. It was a bit exciting really. A wonderful activity emerged towards the end of the morning when the Grade 3 children made up a Breakfast Club Restaurant. They set up the tables with plates, cutlery and ‘food’ from the play kitchen and invited the Preps to come to their restaurant. This was a fantastic activity to watch. The children were inclusive and generous in their dealings with each other. They collaborated, shared and socialised with each other, no matter their age. A great deal of fun was had as this photo shows. What a great time!!!
We also had a planning week where the children planned their program for each day, the day before. As I was away on Tuesday, we planned the Wednesday activities early on Wednesday morning. We later planned Thursday’s activities. On Thursday we planned Friday’s activities and on Friday we planned Monday’s program. This was so successful that we will be continuing this form of planning this week. The children have come up with some wonderful ideas – well done everyone!!!!!!!
Here are some of the activities we have been doing at Breakfast Club during the last fortnight.
