I'm sure it's not just the aging process but how time seems to fly! I can imagine a few families are sharing this thought as they celebrated their daughters and sons Graduation Dinner last Saturday evening at the Convention Centre. It was an excellent evening and brings to a close each students' schooling at Sacred Heart College. As each student is presented it is difficult to picture the fine young women and men as they would have presented on their first day at school - but alas, life moves on and the next chapter begins! Don't forget: Personal excellence is a matter of choice, not chance! In a similar vein, the Year 9 boys conclude their time at the Middle School on Thursday evening and for a number of families it comes on the back of their older siblings' Graduation Dinner. The Middle Years teaching and learning programs are designed to provide rich and deep learning experiences for the boys as they develop a sense of themselves, their strengths and challenges and continue to formulate the foundations of their true selves in relationship with the significant people in their lives, especially family and friends. This journey for the vast majority will continue at the Senior School in a different context - but with a similar purpose of being the best they can be! So, as the year concludes, my sincere thanks to the families, students and staff of Sacred Heart College for all they contribute so generously to the Sacred Heart College family spirit. 2015 will be remembered as the year in which College resumed a single identity, but also for numerous personal experiences and achievements - some publicly acclaimed and many 'personal bests'. With Advent having commenced and Christmas not that far away it is timely to try and find the time and space to spend a few moments in prayer and contemplation on what it is we are actually celebrating. Now think about your day as if looking at it through the eyes of a child; what do you see? Did something surprise you? Was it something someone said to you or something you are grateful for? What did you recognize as gifts (thinking about the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh brought to Jesus)? Thank God for the gifts he has given to you today. (See more at: http://www.ignatianspirituality.com/18250/advent-examen#sthash.dyWdSKKp.dpuf) I thank you for the year that was and wish you every blessing of the Christmas season, a peaceful holiday break and I look forward to 2016 with great enthusiasm! MIDDLE SCHOOL

From the Head of the Middle School Firstly I would like to offer our prayers and thoughts for all of the families affected by the recent devastating fires in and around Pinery and Hamley Bridge. I hope that in time, these families and the communities that surround them can be rebuilt and that hope and prosperity may follow. Next year we welcome to our staff and community; Domenica Caruso who will be teaching Italian and Religious Education, Alex Jackson who will be teaching Maths/Science/PE and Health to Year 7 classes, Rachel Francis who will teach Japanese and Heath Vartz who will replace Ash Jenner (parent leave) for Term 1 in Year 6. Tina Robbins will continue teaching Year 6 in a part time capacity and we also welcome back from maternity leave Alice Tonkin who will be working two days teaching Physical Education/Health and Religious Education. There has been so much happening in the life of the school, with Beach Days, Orientation and by the time this article goes to print we would have celebrated both the Year 9 Graduation and our final Good News Assembly. I would sincerely like to thank all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make these events not just happen, but occasions to be remembered and celebrated. It is the good work and intention of our whole school community and it would be remiss of me not to thank our teaching staff but also our administration maintenance staff - they truly do a wonderful job. It is also with some sadness that the Middle School community farewells Karen Wilmot who has won and accepted a position at Thomas Moore College. Karen has worked in a variety of roles at the Middle School; as Personal Assistant to the previous Principal (Andrew Balkwill), Personal Assistant to the Head of Middle School and Registrar. I want to thank Karen for her hard work and dedication over many years and wish her all the best into the future. And so we come to the end of another amazing year - so much has happened and so much has been achieved. Much reflection has occurred over the year as we begin to put in place strategies, action plans and goals for 2016. I wish all of you a very happy and restful Christmas break and look forward to the start of another academic year. Kind regards, Tim Mullin Head of the Middle School

Middle School Active in Outreach This week a group of Year 8 boys, together with myself, delivered boxes of goods to the Australian Refugee Association and to SOPHIA, a centre for women where weekly English classes are held for Refugee Women. During the year Sacred Heart College Middle School boys and families have donated goods suitable for refugee women and their young babies. Both Australian Refugee Association and to SOPHIA were overwhelmed with the generosity and quality of goods. Another tangible way where the Sacred Heart College community are putting ‘justlove – hearts without boundaries’ into action. Jennifer Callanan APRIM

Disposal of Student Work Many teachers collect assessment tasks throughout the year for the purpose of moderation at the SACE Board (for all Stage 2 subjects and several Stage 1 subjects). Teachers also currently have exams and final assessments in their possession after marking and calculating final grades for Year 10 and 11 students. Please note that the SACE Board will return moderation materials to the College in the week beginning 14th December 2015. Should any students wish to collect their marked work from this year, they should make direct contact with their subject teacher. ANY STUDENT MATERIALS NOT COLLECTED BY 1st MARCH 2016 MAY BE DISPOSED OF. Students are urged to collect their previous year's materials before this date. It is not practical for teachers to store student materials indefinitely. From 1st March 2016, teachers may choose to dispose of student materials. Please be aware that Confidential Waste Bins will be utilised for this purpose (general waste bins and recycling bins will not be used). All students have been emailed this information also. SACE RESULTS Stage 1 and 2 SACE results will be available through Students Online on Tuesday 15 December, from 8:30 am. This not only includes Year 12 results, but Year 10 Personal Learning Plan results and all Year 11 subject results. Included in this newsletter is a one-page flyer from the SACE Board to help students through the login process. Official documentation for Year 12 students (including SACE Certificates and Record of Achievement) will be posted progressively from Tuesday 15 December; all Year 12 students are expected to receive results envelopes in the post by the end of that week. For more information about SACE results, visit the My results section on the SACE website. All students have been emailed this information with the flyer also. Chromebook maintenance during the summer holiday break All current Year 10 and 11 students were issued with a chromebook at the start of their time at the Senior School, which

they will keep until graduation (or upon leaving the College early). The College expectation is that the chromebook is

looked after and maintained in functional working order. Current Year 10 and 11 students can keep their chromebook

during the upcoming Christmas holiday break, but are expected to return in 2016 with an undamaged, functional and fully

charged chromebook.

Any damage that occurs to the chromebook during the holiday break will need to be repaired in time for the first day of

school. Damaged chromebooks can be returned to the library on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th January 2016. Any

damages will be invoiced.

Any chromebooks that are currently damaged should be returned to the library immediately for repair.

We strongly advise that all chromebooks are kept fully charged throughout the holiday period to assist with battery life.

Any concerns with regards to damaged chromebooks can be directed to the College Head Librarian, Ms Pat Fooks.

Christmas Hampers Appeal Saint Marcellin Champagnat was passionate about serving all of humanity, particularly those who may be marginalised in any way and so social justice is an integral part of being in a Marist College. It has become a tradition for each class, and the staff, on the Senior Campus to provide a Christmas Hamper for families in the Brighton, Glenelg, Seacombe Gardens, St Mary’s and Morphett Vale Parishes. These hampers are distributed by the local St Vinnie’s chapters and are really appreciated by the families who receive them. Once again our students have done a fantastic job and 60+ hampers were collected last week for distribution. The photo shows Georgia Harris and Braedyn Burnside with just a few of the hampers going to the Brighton Parish.

No verbal consent for medication In line with best practice the Health care centre staff will not accept verbal consent to administer medication (e.g. paracetamol/ibuprofen) to students. At the commencement of each year parents/guardians are given the opportunity to update student records and provide consent in writing for medication administration. The student diary has a section on page 10/11, outlining health care support to students, and offering a consent that can be signed for administration of medication. Please ensure this is signed and the student electronic health records can be updated accordingly. In 2016 the College will be implementing a new medication policy for day students, however in the interim we would

appreciate your cooperation to comply with this practice to ensure medication safety for all students.
