Last Friday, 31 October we celebrated Grandparent’s Day at Hilliard State School. Hundreds of Grandparents enjoyed our

wonderful concert showcasing the many talented students here at Hilliard SS. Our P&C catered morning tea and then our special

guests were treated to interactive lessons in our classrooms.

Grandparents play a special part in the lives of children. They offer links to the past and a sense of purpose and belonging! We

value these special relationships and thank everyone for coming along and sharing this wonderful day with us!

Curriculum Matters Year 6 Sydney/Canberra Trip

A letter has been sent home to Year 6 parents this week outlining the planned Sydney/Canberra trip for 2015. The trip is scheduled

for 31/08/15 - 4/09/15. Students will fly to Sydney, visit Taronga Zoo then travel by coach to Canberra to visit; The Senate, The

House of Representatives, The War Memorial, The High Court, Questacon and take part in an Education Program at the Electoral

Education Centre and Parliamentary Museum. A visit to the snow fields to experience the snow is also planned. Finally, students

travel back to Sydney by coach and fly home.

The cost of this trip is approximately $1000. The total includes all flights and coach travel, all meals, all entrance fees, hire of snow

gear (except water proof gloves), all accommodation and travel insurance. In addition to this, students are permitted to take $50

spending money.

To be able to calculate a more precise price for the tour and to make firm bookings, we will need to know how many students will

be attending. It is for these reasons that we require parents to indicate your intentions by returning the slip below. Please return the

request slip by Friday, 14th November, 2014.

Early in the new year, a parent meeting will be held to disseminate more detailed information. At this time, another note will be

distributed with the exact amount, dates for payments and permission slip along with a request for a non-refundable deposit.

REQUEST FOR INCLUSION IN THE 2015 SYDNEY/CANBERRA TOUR

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please return the request slip by Friday, 14th November, 2015 to the school office.

STUDENT NEWS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

You Can Do It Awards Positive, individual student and House (Aston, Butler, Carlson and Rogers) attitudes and actions will be rewarded in Hilliard ’s new Responsible Behaviour Plan For Students. A feature of the new plan will be the You Can Do It End of Term Prize. The House scoring the highest average points each Term, based on You Can Do It criteria, will be rewarded with an afternoon celebration during the last week of each Term. The winning House Captains will be able to negotiate their House’s prize with the school administration.

Each week, students who follow the “You Can Do It” philosophy of “Getting Along, Organisation, Resilience, Confidence and Persistence” are awarded a “You Can Do It” token which is placed into a rewards box in the school office. Each week, on assembly, four students, one from each sports house, are chosen from the many who have earned a “You Can Do It” token and are awarded a prize.
