I am delighted to report that Badge Constructions have started initial works associated with the construction of the School’s gymnasium. Major building projects inevitably involve disruptions and it is hoped that any such disruptions to other areas of the School will be kept to a minimum and that School families will be advised of any particular interruptions as the gymnasium is built e.g. temporary loss of some parking bays at northern end of the Salerno Drive car park. Works have also begun on installing air-conditioning to the Science Laboratories and classrooms on the top floor of the Science Building with the intention that these areas will be air-conditioned at the start of the 2015 School year. CHAPLAIN’S CHAT

Dear Friends, A busy year at Peter Moyes Anglican Community School draws to a close, and the great season of Christmas approaches when we remember the birth of Christ who came that there might be peace on earth where people are of goodwill toward one another. This peace does not come by a magic wand, but by Shalom - our daily struggle for peace strengthened by the Spirit of God. Over 2.5 Billion Christians will pause on Christmas Day to remember the birth of Christ who came as one of us, weak and human, but strong in the power of the Holy Spirit. 1 billion Moslems will also

recognise this day, as they consider Jesus to be one of the great Prophets of God. Many Buddhists and Hindus will know of the meaning and sacred significance of Christmas. This means that well over two thirds of the world's population will pause on Christmas Day to recognise Jesus Christ as the Anointed Messenger of God. May the Peace and Joy of Christmas be with you and those you love this Christmas, and may you strive daily for God's Shalom. Best wishes.

VISIT TO THE ZOO! On Thursday 20th November 2014, the Year 7 cohort went on an excursion to Perth Zoo. This excursion was a cross-curricular initiative between the Indonesian and Science Learning Areas organised by Pak Snyder and Mrs. Formaggio. The students, staff and parent helpers thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The students also learned a lot in both subjects. Pak Snyder Teacher I thoroughly enjoyed the excursion to the Zoo. It was a great experience to be able to see many animals in their natural habitats, their diets and how they live. I really loved seeing lots of rare animals first hand and also being with my friends. All in all a great day! Millie Foster Year 7.5 student I was in Mr Hollingsworth’s group and we had a lot of fun. We saw kangaroos, cockatoos, dingoes, wallabies, emus and echidnas in the Australian Bushwalk. In the Asian Rainforest, we saw a Red Panda, a White-Cheeked Gibbon, tigers, sun bears, koalas and an American Alligator. We saw lions, baboons, African Painted Dogs, elephants, orang-utans and a zebra in the African Savannah. While we were exploring, we filled in information about some of the animals in our zoo booklet. There was an Indonesian section and a Science section as it was a joint excursion. Some of the animals were new to me and I never knew they existed. Going to the Perth Zoo was a very fun and educational experience. Saloni Bhimjiyani Year 7.6 student

PRIMARY NEWS Sports stars, fans and cricket lovingchildren have put out their bats and caps as a poignant gesture of respect and mourning for Phillip Hughes. Wil Tulloch, in Year 3.3 is a passionate young cricket player, and wanted to pay tribute to his hero who he fondly called ‘Hugs’ because when he was younger he could not pronounce ‘Hughes’. Wil can be seen placing a bat and hat by our School flag pole at half-mast as a mark of respect. The death of Phillip Hughes has affected many Australians and similar tributes to the one paid by Wil were seen around the country.

I wish to acknowledge the work of the following staff who are leaving at the end of the year: Ms. Emma-Lee Jackson has been a dedicated Kindergarten Teacher, who has worked alongside Ms. Haley Donavan, who has been a tireless Educational Assistant. Both are leaving to be foundation staff members at St James’ Anglican School. Ms. Emily Lister has been a dynamic Music Teacher for five years and will also join St James’ Anglican School. She has worked hard in developing a passion for music within our students. Luckily, Miss. Lister is not going to be too far away, there are plans for collaborative programmes in the new year with Miss. Lister and Mrs. Black who is our new teacher for the Primary Music Programme. Mrs. Edell Robertson will be on maternity leave in 2015 and the School wishes her well. Ms. Jennifer Williams is retiring after many years of teaching violin, both to individuals and group classes . Ms. Williams was instrumental in establishing the Primary School’s Strings Programme.

Learning Journey Evening – Wednesday, December 3 All parents and family members are invited to visit your child’s class THIS EVENING

between 5.00pm and 6.30 pm in the Primary School. Your child will walk you through

a curriculum area of focus so you can get a sense of the learning process and journey

they have come through. All student workbooks and work will come home at the end

of the week for you to look through at your own leisure.

Moving On Up Day – Friday, 5 December 9:40 - 10:20am During this time all students will have an opportunity to experience the environment

of their next classroom, making for a smoother transition into the new School year.

Year 6 Transition Assembly – Friday, 5 December 1:30 - 2:30pm Parents of Year 6 students are invited to attend the Year 6 Transition Assembly to be

held in the Allan Shaw Centre. This is a lovely way to acknowledge the Year 6 cohort and wish them well as they prepare to commence

their Middle Schooling.

Presentation Assembly – Tuesday, 9 December 9:00 - 10:30am I encourage all parents to attend the finale of the year in the Primary School. This is one of the most important events in the Primary

School calendar. It is an opportunity to focus on the Primary School at Peter Moyes, not only celebrating students in their achievements

and awards, but also providing an opportunity to acknowledge the roles of our students, staff and families in our School community.

Morning Tea will be provided straight afterwards for all parents .

May I extend my warmest Christmas wishes to you for the holiday season. I have thoroughly enjoyed becoming part of the Primary

School community. Thank you for working with me and the Primary School staff this year. I look forward to the new year and working

to implement the Primary School’s prorammes for 2015. May God Bless you as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

ACADEMIC ALL STARS CONTEST On Thursday 27th November nine students from Primary Reach Academic Extension in Years 4, 5 and 6 competed in the annual Academic All Stars contest against Quinns Baptist and Alkimos Baptist Colleges. This year the event took place in the Undercroft of the Allan Shaw Centre, where the students tackled some puzzling Quizzles, a tricky Engineering challenge and a Drama task. It was an action packed morning, which saw the teams brainstorming ideas and then working effectively together to solve the challenges. They had to design and create a zip line device to carry a ping pong ball; write and perform a Fractured Fairy Tale with a moral message; demonstrate creativity and ingenuity and above all, have some fun! Team “X” from Alkimos Baptist accumulated the most total points and were awarded “All Stars” medals, but every student left with an Award certificate and a smile on their faces. Thanks to Mrs Reyneke and Mrs Reglar who volunteered to help during the morning. The following students are to be congratulated for the exemplary manner in which they represented the school during the contest: Year 4: Daksh Aggarwal, Helen Wade, Leia Keegan-Rodgers Year 5: Janelle Reynke, Dylan McPhan, Louie Reglar Year 6: Peter Godwin, Roxana Dunham, Jennifer Lumsden Chrissie Payne Primary School Academic Extension
