YACHT CLUB NEWS Club members were out on the water in late July and August. Here’s a run-down of club activities: In July our first week-long cruise of the season took us to some of our favorite

San Juan Islands ports of call: Anacortes, Spencer Spit, Rosario & Deer Harbor. Highlights of the cruise were the delicious dinner & dancing at the Anacortes Elks Club, crabbing at Spencer Spit, a chicken dinner around a fireplace at a State Park, a road trip to Mt. Constitution, and a whale watching tour on Tom and Kayo O’Gorman’s boat. Thanks go out to all of the cruise hosts: Al & Beoma Oakley, Bob & Pat Webber, Bob & Judy Ogden, Dave & Gaye Sawicki and Jeff & Lynette Morris-Reade. Next up was the August Gulf Islands cruise. Our stops were Stuart Island, Port Browning, Otter Bay and Monta-gue Harbour. Cruise highlights included a picnic at the Stuart schoolhouse, a private tour and tasting at Sea Star Winery, dinner at the Port Browning pub, the “W” party at Otter Bay, and the trip to the Hummingbird Pub. Many thanks to our Gulf Islands cruise hosts: Don & Roxie Hubert, Ralph & Marion Falk, Russ & Marsha Murkowski, Tom & Kayo O’Gorman, Dawn & Tom Baker, Peter Winterfeld & Jerrylyn Barney. August also saw our final Waterside Wednesday of the season. Approximately 60 people attended and brought delicious side dishes to go with our club-provided hot dogs. This wasn’t just Waterside Wednesday ~ we got to celebrate two special events ~ Past Commodore Dennis Duncan’s 62nd birthday and the wedding anniversary of a new members Charlie & Elena Bottarini! I hope that everyone has enjoyed the Waterside Wednes-days as much as I have. Many thanks to everyone that has helped me pull them together. Fri. – Sun., Sept. 12th – 14th – Cruise to Jones Island Join cruise hosts Past Commodore Dennis Duncan and Best Mate Irene for a late season venture to Jones Island. This cruise is designed to accommodate both BOAT OWNERS and NON-BOAT OWNERS. BOATERS can moor at the dock at the North Cove, on one of the seven mooring buoys, or anchor out. There's room for about 5-7 boats on the dock and rafting on is allowed. NON-BOATERS are invited to sail along to the island (we'll set up a list to pair you with boat captains willing to transport an extra passenger or two) and participate by camping out at a designated camp site on the is-land. GOLF NEWS BBV Golf Club Fall General Meeting: Don’t miss out on the Fall General Meeting of the BBV Golf Club. As we wrap up our successful first year as a club, there is much to celebrate. On the agenda are some very important issues to discuss, voting in new Club officers, deciding on how to spend Club money, and much more! The meeting, itself, starts at 7:30pm and is preceded by a Mexican-theme din-ner that starts around 6:30pm. The Mexican dinner is co-sponsored by the Friday Night Couples (in lieu of “Sip & Dip”) and the Golf Club. See you there…Ole! Golf Club Fund Raiser…the best yet!:The 2014 BBV Golf Fund Raiser, held July 19 - 20, attracted many eager golfers, fish eaters, and standing-room auction bidders. The result…the best Fund Raiser ever! Village residents, guests and area businesses generously supported the Fund Raiser with hole and pin placement sponsorships, bought drawing tickets, contributed auction and drawing items, played in the tournament, challenged the fun post-tournament games, and attended the dinner/auction. Non-golfers and golfers alike clearly enjoyed themselves, making this year’s event a complete success! Money raised supports the BBV Junior Golf Program, golf course facility improvements, and Golf Club activities. It’s a win-win event for the entire Village! Please see the enclosed insert for special acknowledgements Birch Bay PGA Championship results: On August 9-10, BBV golfers picked a PGA professional as their partner in the Birch Bay PGA Championship tournament. Although he did not pick the actual PGA Championship winner (Rory McIlroy), Ken Hecker and “partner” Phil Mickelson took the local victory. Our local winners (net scores) were: 1st Place – Ken Hecker/Phil Mickelson (249); 2nd Place – Anne Brown/Jim Furyk (257); 3rd Place – Joe Holdridge/Steve Stricker (258); 4th Place – Pat Wood/Jason Day (260). BBV Club Championship: The 36-hole, two-day BBV Club Championship tournament was held on August 23-24 (after the 8/21 deadline for Bulletin copy). Official results for the Men’s and Ladies’ low gross and low net winners will appear in the October 2014 BBV Bulletin. Until then, congratulations to the winners and thanks to all participants and individuals who helped organize the tournament and the post-tournament “picnic”. Junior Golf Program wraps up: An active 2014 Junior Golf Program season has come to an end. Weekly clinics, held each Friday starting July 11th, allowed for maximum participation by Village youth…some continuous, some occasional. Youth visiting BBV family members were fre-

GOLF NEWS quent attendees. Attendance was about 15 youths at its peak. The program wrapped up on August 29 with a tour-nament and BBQ. How fun! Please encourage the youth of your family to make it out next year. Mark your calendar!: Sept. 6: Birch Bay Invitational (6 holes scramble, 6 holes best ball, 6 holes alternate shot; 2-person team best ball, invite a friend to be your partner; $20/team) Sept. 12: BBV Golf Club Fall General Meeting (dinner @ 6:30pm, meeting @ 7:30pm, all follow Friday Night Cou-ples) Sept. 22: Birch Bay Par 3 Championship (18 par-3 holes from 100 – 226 yards, $10); Sept. 28: US vs. Canada (team match play; $5)

It's back to PIZZA, salad and dessert this month. I think we have missed the simplicity of ordering that pizza, sitting around talking and enjoying the group. Let's get it back to basics this month so we can embark on a busy fall and win-ter. September 15th, 5:30pm is the date and time for fun and good food! Summer in the Village has been a fun experience with kids, grandkids, and lots of company. Time to exhale and enjoy the upcoming fall colors, cooler weather, beautiful moun-tain and bay views! Let your new neighbors or friends that have not been to pizza, know it's a great way to meet every-one. Give them an invite! See you Sept.15th . Bring a pizza, salad or dessert to share and we will supply everything else. Char 371-2929

Anyone interested in serving as Tempo-rary Treasurer when Judy heads south, let us know. Thanks for your help. See you on the courts.

WALKERS AND RUNNERS Our Village is a perfect place for seeing all the wildlife, landscapes and gardens while walking and running. While it's great fun and exercise, please remember to do it safely by staying on the left side of the road facing traffic to see what could hit you. It's not only safe, but also the Wash-ington state law, ( RCW 46.61.250 ) Google it. Now go out and enjoy-safely.
