I didn’t know such a week existed, unl it was menoned in an assembly put together by our Grade 7s. In the Senior Primary, we have been highlighng ‘Kind- ness’ as a theme throughout the term and the Grade 7s went on to give some very helpful, praccal hints on how to be more intenonal about showing kindness. See if any of these resonate with you: Motorist Consideraon Monday Allow a fellow motorist to come out in front of you in a line of heavy traffic. Don’t text while driving. Touch a Heart Tuesday Be a good listener - don’t jump to offer advice. Offer a compliment. Willing to Lend a Hand Wednesday Volunteer for community projects. Offer to give somebody a liſt to work. Thoughul Thursday Hold a door for people behind you. Allow a person with fewer groceries than yourself to cut in front of you. Forgive Your Foe Friday Put yourself in the somebody else’s shoes. Forgive yourself. In this week’s assembly, the Grade 4s called kindness a super-power. I think they’ve hit the nail on the head. Both sets of girls reminded us that a culture of kindness is created by small acts, done consistently. I love that it’s so achievable! An aspect of kindness is giving credit where credit is due. I would like to congratulate the JP girls on their outstanding cultural perfor- mances last week. I was lucky enough to aend the Grade 3 Cultural evening, and was thoroughly entertained. Their level of performance was truly impressive. Over the weekend, DGC held the Lemonlicious DGC U16 Water Polo Tournament which was aended by top teams from around the country. What an amazing display of teamwork, tenacity and sportsmanship. The final match was nail bing to the bier end, and huge congratulaons go to our U16 Water Polo team for winning the tournament. Congratulaons to Mrs Loreen Doherty-Bigara and our coaches, staff, parents and girls for ensuring a highly organised and professional tournament which showcased our talent and facilies. From our Chaplain“Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he explained the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:32

Last weekend, social media platforms were full of cheerful springtime encouragements to make a fresh start in various ways. By the end of Monday, these positive exhortations were overtaken by despair - the outcry surrounding recent examples of gender-based violence and xenophobia has been loud and furious. We find ourselves floored as we hear of people who seem to have zero regard for human dignity. Whether it’s because we are making some re-commitments in a new season, or because our experiences are pushing us to look for answers, the response of examining our faith is a good one. God is not too small, too disinterested or too afraid to invite us to wrestle with our experi-ences or observations of injustice. He does not expect a blind faith which can’t ever ask questions. The Bible exists because he desires us to choose to put our faith in his good-ness and sovereignty having been convinced of both by reading of his gracious dealings with broken humanity over millennia. Perhaps it’s time for a fresh start with Him as we grapple with these difficult things.

Meet our StaffMy journey at Durban Girls’ College started in January 2012, when I walked through the doors in Guildford Road and entered the Junior Primary.

The Junior Primary is indeed a very special place of learning, where curiosity and creativity unite. Little girls are free to explore and be their authentic selves, in a nurturing and safe place.

It is a blessing working with a team of committed, hard-working and passionate teachers. Each one talented and adding great value to our school.

During the past seven years, I have had the privilege of working under three incredibleExecutive Heads. Through their leadership they have encouraged me to dream and inspiredmy vision for our department, and for this, I am truly grateful. My amazing husband and two daughters have supported me throughout my journey at College. They have attended many College functions and have always been my pillar of strength.

When not at school, I enjoy cooking, entertaining, spending time with family and friends, and being out in nature.

Carol-Anne Conradie - Head of Junior Primary

Black Friday at DGCBeing saddened and angered by the senseless rape and killing of UCT stu-dent, Uyinene Mrwetyana, our Grade 12 girls – supported by our staff and High School - called for action and showed solidarity by wearing black and forming a silent protest. This is an expression of our collective outrage at the unacceptable levels of violent crime against women and girls in South Africa. Gender-based violence knows no borders but, in South Africa, femicide seems to have touched all women from all walks of life and in all social spheres.

'Feminism isn't aboutmaking women strong. Women are already strong. It's about changing theway the world perceivesthat strength.'G.D. Anderson
